4- Pill to Swallow

"We are going to find him, Kaila. He will come back." Victor says, rubbing the girl's hand with his thumb.

"It still hurts." Kaila says, letting go of Victor's hand and hugging herself.

"I know. We're trying." Erien says, standing back up.

"Kaila, go play with your toys for a little, ok? I'll come in a couple minutes to play with you." William says, gently guiding the toddler back to her own room.

"Yes, Papa." Kaila whispers.

She looks over her shoulder, watching the men go into William's study, which has maps and last known location of Jax.

She makes a detour to Victor's study.

She knew she would be put in timeout for this. But she needed information, and if they all were going to skurt around the idea of giving her what she thought was a right, she would find it all herself.

She got about two steps before Victor's filled the room.

"Kaila Zena Kallstrum. Is this your room?" He asks, walking slowly to the girl, his arms crossed.

"No, Daddy." Kaila says, deciding to test her luck.

"Then why aren't you in your own room?" He asks, spinning the girl around so she can see his unhappy face.

"Because I'm trying to get answer as to where my brother is." Kaila says, closing her own arms and shutting her eyes.

She knew Victor hated it when she didn't look at him.

To him, it showed disrespect.

"We are trying to do it ourselves, little one." Victor sighs, uncrossing his arms and sitting on the ground in front of the young wolf.

"Doing such a good job, aren't you." Kaila snarks back, starting to leave the office.

"Kaila! Go to your Papa's office! Now!" Victor quickly says, standing up.

The girl in question growls, but stalks over to William's office.

William opens he door for her, already expecting the youngest person in the house.

"Corner." Is all William has to say before the little girl goes over and sits on a wooden stool.

Victor comes in, a minute later, informing the other adults of what Kaila had said.

William was upset, so Erien was the one who brought Kaila out of punishment.

"What have I been telling you since this all started?" He asks, using his wolf's dominate voice to tell Kaila he wasn't in the mood to play around.

"Not to worry about where Jax is." Kaila whispers, her head hanging low.

"That goes for you too, Ella. Jax is a teenager. It is our job, as adults, to take care of those younger than us. Jax is older than you by a few years." Erien says, lifting the girl's head to watch her eyes.

They were filled with hurt and sadness.

"I know you want to be in these conversation so badly, but most of the time it's not good news. Jax is moving farther away from us. It's a tough pill to swallow, even for adults. We are trying, but we can only be so right." Erien softly says.

It didn't matter. Kaila only focused on one part.

"Jax is moving farther away?" She whimpers out.

Erien nods, no longer sugar-coating things.

"Yes, Kai. We are trying to figure out why, but we have no clue as to why." William says, walking over to the duo and kneeling down in front of the little girl.

Kaila brings her knees to her chest.

"Daddy?" She asks, her voice shaking.

"Yes, baby girl?" Victor asks, walking more into the study.

"You and Jax got a good relationship. Right?" She asks.

All the men got confused by the question.

"Yes Kai. I do believe we did." Victor answers, slowly saying each word.

"Do you think he ever loved me, or just want me to leave him alone?" Kaila whispers, wiping her eyes from the tear about to leak out.
