"D-Dazai! Please don't! Get down from there!" Atsushi scrambled about trying to grab any portion of the tan trench coat.

"Aw man! I was so close though!" Dazai shouted out, hand waving around in the air dramatically.

"Please just get down from there. Give me the rope too." Atsushi laid his hand out, waiting expectantly for the rough material.

"Ughhh, fine! Here, confiscator." The brunette huffed, throwing the noose.

"Thank you." Atsushi sighs exasperatedly, "Come on, we have to go to work."

"Okie!" Dazai hums, walking alongside his mentee.

.

"Dazai.." Atsushi twists his lips, teeth clenching from the sight before him.

"Yessss?" Dazai blinks up at him, feigning innocence.

"Just..why?"

"Because, why not?" Dazai giggles from the floor, a full bottle of pills in his hand. Atsushi bends down to get on eye level with the man, calling out to his ability; he'd need the speed.

"No. Give it to me." Atsushi frowned, two wrinkles forming on his forehead.

"Nope! I worked hard to get these!" Dazai would have successfully kept the bottle if not for Atsushi snatching it away. "Hey! Give them back." Dazai glared up at him,  mouth pulling into a firm line.

"Sorry, but I'm taking them away." Atsushi stood up, ignoring the way Dazai complained. He noted the lack of humor in his superiors voice. He walked over to a cabinet under his desk, unlocking it with a key and throwing the capsule inside.

Dazai gave out an irritated scoff, he sent off a scowl and turned his body away. Atsushi was thankful the other members were off somewhere to not witness this tantrum. Kunikida would've gotten a migraine; sympathizing with the way the blonde handles Dazai, Atsushi formed a new sense of respect.

Slamming the cabinet door closed, Atsushi takes a seat, questioning his next course of action. He just stares at Dazai's laying body, how he had one hand inside the right coat pocket, seriously he looks like a toddler...

.

"Kenji, have you seen Dazai?" Atsushi asks, looking down at the very enthusiastic teen.

"Not at all! I'm sorry." Kenji smiles, tone as sweet as honey.

"Ah, it's ok. Thank you though!" Atsushi yells over his shoulder, the young farmer answered with an energetic goodbye, but the weretiger had a certain brunette occupying his thoughts.

"Atsushi," the boy turned to the new voice, finding the detective busy snacking on a chocolate flavored Poki stick. "Check the roof."

Those were the only words needed for the 18-year old to sprint to the staircase. Billions of thoughts running rampant around his mind, boots pounding with each step as his breaths came in puffs. Perspiration starting to form on his forehead, nerves hay wiring while anxiety traveled throughout his body.

Throwing open the roof door, Atsushi stumbles on his feet before getting the chance to raise his head to find a sitting Dazai. He would have been relieved if it weren't for the fact that the brunette was on the edge!

"You think this height will be enough to kill me?" Dazai states, his voice giving a hint of dullness that shook Atsushi to his very core.

"No...it's not."

"Exactly, so don't worry." Dazai's shoulder trembled, Atsushi was startled with the little chuckles erupting from the brunette's mouth. He sighed, his heart still thumping wildly inside his chest, threatening to jump out from his ribcage. Stepping forward, his arms rested on the rusty tail of the roof, eyes staring off into the far distance where the city building's glimmered with the sun.

"Why do you keep getting in my way?"

Atsushi sputters, head whipping to peer down at his mentor, who had the guts to snarl at him.

"Getting in your way? I'm trying to help you! Geez, now I'm getting lectured." Atsushi blows a breath, placing his chin on the palm of his hand.

"It's just a lost cause. You shouldn't waste your time with someone like me." Dazai mutters, eyes now averted to the horizon. A forlorn expression etched permanently on his face. Atsushi continues staring, the sun casted it's fiery glow on the two males, but he just finds himself soaking in the beauty of his mentor.

The curved slope of his nose, his defined cheekbones, eyes half-lidded yet not hiding those irises of warm pools of whiskey. How his brown hair was the perfect frame for that sharp pointed face, Atsushi wouldn't say Dazai wasn't attractive. In fact, his good looks might give him the slightest advantage in everything.

Although, not just the handsomeness was appealing to Atsushi, the fact that Dazai had eye bags, messy (probably unwashed hair), clothes wrinkled and faded. His face carried the most lamentable (3) aspect if given the privacy. It all gave Atsushi the clues to build up one conclusion.

That Dazai, was indeed, a human being.

"I'm not wasting it. I'd spend every waking moment to save you." Atsushi easily responds, a breezes hits his face. It was getting cold but Dazai made no indication of moving, so Atsushi decided to stay. They didn't speak after that, the wind carrying away any lingering doubts.

It had been a while up on the roof when Atsushi decided it was time to head back. The weretiger softly tapped on Dazai's shoulder, a warning mostly. The brunette just rolled his eyes, amused, before jumping over the rail and following his trainee downstairs.

.

"Ah...I lost him again." Atsushi pants, he's been running in circles trying to find the suicidal man. They were on a mission, and Dazai had the audacity to jump into a river, which leads to his current predicament. At least the case wasn't too hard, Atsushi finished it just fine without any expertise needed.

All this fretting would not help the weretiger's stress in the slightest. He just really needs to find Dazai. Atsushi follows the sidewalk in a hurried pace, Dazai couldn't swim so that makes him more anxious. The water shines with the high sun, the ripples moving with the current, ceaselessly. The water wasn't opaque (1), making the legs sticking out of the water the only recognizable way for Atsushi to find the man.

"Right just look for two legs protruding out, that's normal." Atsushi mutters under his breath, still panting from the lack of oxygen. His feet weren't getting tired, a good thing really, maybe because of his tiger. Thanks Byakko.

Stopping for a second to catch his breath, Atsushi looks out at the body of water, this would be a nice sight to view with someone. The world was silent, almost as if letting the teen enjoy the peace of not having any noise interrupt his thoughts. He inhales the fresh air into his lungs, keeping it inside for a few moments more, before letting out a deep exhale.

He had his eyes closed, enjoying the tranquility of this place. Opening his eyes to find two legs sticking out, he frowns. Taking one last deep breath before jumping in. The water was freezing, he almost gave up on his task. The way the liquid burned his eyes when opening them under the water, made him even angrier. He took a hold of that flowing coat, ignoring the way it momentarily slipped from his grasp.

"Pwah!" Atsushi gasps as his face breaks the surface of the water, his grip tightly clenched around the trench coat. Forcibly pulling the brunette onto the dry pavement, he lifts both himself and Dazai to land.

"Phew, Dazai! Wake up. Seriously? While on a job?" Atsushi remarks the seemingly unconscious man, he knows better though.

"It's just like last time, huh?"

"What?"

"You saved me like this when we first met. Although "save" is kinda stretching it." Dazai states tediously, he sighs when sitting up. Hands miraculously inside his pockets, his hair dripping water down the side of his face, the liquid soaked into the bandages round his neck.

"Oh yeah, I did. Sorry but I'm not letting you die." Atsushi wrings his shirt and twists it. A small cataract flowing onto the dry concrete.

"Why not?" Dazai stared intently at him, the gears of his mind practically turning, might be predicting my response. Atsushi stands up.

"Because. I'll always save anyone in need. If I see someone in need of help, I'll gladly give it without payment. That's just who I am." Atsushi stares down at his mentor, stretching out his arm for Dazai to take.

The brunette chuckles, "Right, I'll stop trying to commit today."

"Eh?! You should just stop altogether!"

.

"I'm going to commit suicide tonight." Dazai states out of no where, his face still turned upwards, eyes half-lidded and gazing out at the starry night, expression obscure (2). Atsushi thinks his response over, biting his lip to contain any complaints. Finally settling on a response he never thought he'd say.

"You know what? Ok....I'll miss you, so much. Just please wait for me on the other side." He whispers, Atsushi smiles mournfully at his mentor, eyes slightly glazed over with fresh tears.

"...really?" Dazai asks, disbelief dripping from his voice as his eyes find Atsushi's.

"Yes...who am I to keep you here when you're the one suffering?" A tear falls, Atsushi makes no effort to wipe it away, tasting the salt of it upon his smiling lips.

"But...you're suffering too." Dazai reaches his bandaged hand over, catching a second tear in his finger.

"Doesn't matter." Atsushi sniffles, eyes closing, making more tears to spill.

"It does...I'll stay." Dazai takes his subordinates face in between his hands, thumbing underneath his eyes to rid of the droplets.

"You shouldn't stay for another person, that's not what living is for. You don't need a reason either.... Don't exist, Dazai, live." Atsushi encloses his left hand around Dazai's right, squeezing it a bit. "I'll support you in whatever you choose, ok? I can't decide for you."

"Atsushi.." Dazai exhales, his hot breath fanning over the weretiger's face. Atsushi opened his eyes not realizing his mentor had gotten so close.

"It's ok...I'm going to be fine." He smiles, yet the crackles of his mask were more apparent then ever.

"Yes, you will. I'm staying...not just for you. I want to stay with you. You really got me thinking there...thank you for that." Dazai chuckled lowly on how puzzled his subordinate looked. He thumbed that pale wet cheek once more, smiling softly down at the teen.

"You know...I've always wanted to live. I knew a part of me desired for it. But even that craving was a whisper from within my soul...all the terrible things I've done in the past, they still haunt me to this day." Atsushi opened his mouth to speak but Dazai continued onward.

"I know...I've changed, but that was mostly for someone else's wish not my own. That person meant so much to me, his dying words took its toll, burdening me of that goal to fulfill.

You opened my eyes once more, Atsushi. You truly are a kind, gentle and extraordinary person I've ever met. You love so deeply and don't want to let things go, however, your compassionate side influenced you to put yourself in other's shoes. That's truly one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen." Dazai smiles, this time it wasn't strained.

Atsushi whimpers a bit, tears still flooding down his cheeks, the small tickles of self-doubt working it's way into him. Still, the serene way Dazai cradles his face, is enough warmth to melt away those intrusive thoughts.

His vision blurred as he looked up to the brunette, grimacing with the exhaustion of holding back his sobs. A bandaged hand goes to the back of his head while the other intertwines their fingers together. Atsushi barely has time to register what's occurring, when a soft pair of lips entangle with his own.

The kiss was chaste, yet it had the younger floating, as if carrying him into an intergalactic world that only knows beauty. Atsushi's heart pounded, his face probably turning a fine shade of red. His mentor had his eyes closed, lips pressing together. Atsushi soaked in that image, clear vulnerability present in his superiors face; it was nice.

"W-why?" Atsushi gasps out, hand still in Dazai's. He was trembling, he couldn't decipher if that kiss was a goodbye or not.

"Because you're the reason why I want to keep living."
