Chapter Ten: Best Friends Forever
1x19: Machismo

*Trigger warning*

Eden sprained some muscles from all the constant working out she'd  been doing. To be fair, she had been sleeping, not everyday and sometimes for only a few hours of the day. This week she had gotten a total of three hours of sleep. They  had a few days off and all she did was run a lot. That didn't seem to work so she started working out. Hitting the punching bags, jumping rope. Let's just say her muscles are sore, her knuckles are bruised and scabs are appearing. She was currently sitting at the table next to Reid, who kept eyeballing her every move. She was so sore that she bites back a whimper as she moves her arm to grab the files on the table. She opens it and zones out on the file and what JJ had to say.

"Allende Del Sol, Mexico, population 20,000. The victim is Lupe Trejo. 62. She was found in her home, stabbed in the face, chest and genitals. The papers down there connected her murder to 11 others in the past 2 years, all elderly women. They're saying it's the work of a serial killer." JJ explains.

" The Mexican government disagrees." Gideon mutters.

" What kind of city is this?"

"Half factory town, half tourist town, the factory makes the tchotchkes and clothes that tourists buy. And even though the murders have happened in the...Poor neighborhoods where the locals live-"

"Serial killers make lousy tourist attractions."  Eden continues.

"Yeah."

"So if the government denies that this is a serial killer, why'd they call us?" Elle asks.

"They have the suspect in custody, the victim's son.  Where are the serial killer experts? They want us to go down there and confirm that this was just a one time killing. Put the serial killer angle to bed."

"So we're going all the way down there just to prove they don't have a serial killer." Derek asks.

"Maybe. Or we're going down there to tell him if what I've read in the Mexican papers is true they've got one of the worst serial killers the country's ever seen, let's go." Gideon explains.

Anthony Brandt wrote "Other things may change us, but we start and end with family."

Hotch is upset. Hailey is mad at him for leaving on another case.  He sits there file laying on his chest. A sigh lingering on his lips.

"Hey. At least you get to spend your birthday weekend in Mexico." JJ leans over her chair looking at Hotch.

"Yeah, what's dog-house in Spanish?"

"La ca-sa del pair-O." Spencer pronounces as Eden laughs

" La casita del perro." Eden corrects him in a spicy accent.

"That's what I said." He leers as I laugh at him.

"Face it, Chico. You're only a genius in English." Smiling, Eden stands to her feet with a coffee mug in her grasp.

"Spanish? Since when?" Derek mutters standing next to her as she walks past on her way to the coffee machine.

"I'm full of hidden mysteries." She smiled, arms outstretched in defense.

"All right, so why are there so few serial killers in Mexico?"

"They probably have as many as we do, but they document almost none of them." Hotch yawns.

"Why is that?"JJ asks.

"It's the Chikatilo syndrome." Gideon speaks up.

"The what?"

"Andre Chikatilo, one of the most prolific serial killer of the 20th century. By the time they found him, he had killed more than 50 people." Reid babbles.

" He was no more experienced than any average serial killer, but he lived in Soviet Ukraine. The Soviets were convinced the serial killer is a uniquely American phenomenon. Inevitable result of decadent capitalism." Eden explains sipping her coffee and standing in the doorway.

"So, what's the cultural bias in Mexico?"

"Many Mexicans believe that serial killers are the result of the breakdown of the family, which gives rise to the kind of alienated loner who becomes a serial killer." Hotch explains.

"It's a fact that there are 12 times as many broken families in the U.S. than in Mexico."

"All right, so is it possible that there are fewer serial killers in Mexican culture?"  Elle perks up from her seat next to Derek.

" It is possible. But, in her experience, evil is not a cultural phenomenon. It's a human one."   Gideon says as Eden rolls her eyes. It's going to be a long night.

//

They land in Mexico 12 hours later. Check into a cheap hotel first. Eden goes to her room and changes out of her clothes. Taking a quick shower,  her hair wrapped neatly in a bun, she grabbed some jeans and a light blouse, putting it on with some lipgloss and mascara. Pulling her bun out of her hair and rustling the red locks with her black painted fingernails. Smacking her lips together and giving herself one more look over before assembling her belt which included her badge and gun before heading out the door. Where the others are waiting. They gather outside, waiting for local police to come pick them up. They arrived at the police station. All of them piling out of the two cars.

"Nothing like jet sleep, right?" Derek says stretching.

" Yeah, kind of like a night of drinking without the drinking."  Elle comments as Eden laughs, whispering something in her ear.  She just nods before saying "Game on."

The two had been making bets about everything since they got off the jet, honestly it was the only way to not let these cases consume them. Having fun with  each other just seemed more natural.

" Agent Gideon." The police captain greets the man.

"Captain Navarro."

" You're shorter than I remembered,"  the captain says.

" I was on a stage." Gideon replies as Elle hands Eden Ten  dollars. She smiles and sticks it in her back pocket.

"This is Lieutenant Borquez."  He introduces the man to everyone.

"Hello." he smiles and waves.

"This is my team." Gideon gestures to everyone. " Captain Navarro has been put in charge of the case by the assistant attorney general."

"You guys got history?"

"We met at a seminar I gave in Mexico City a few years ago." Gideon explains.

"Sexual homicide in latin america. I just read a chapter on the subject in Max Ryan's book."

"Where do you think I got it from?" Gideon chirps a big smile on his face.

"I'm glad you came. I was never sure how much you liked me."

"Why is that?" Elle asks, hands in her pockets.

"I've often told Agent Gideon that his profiling technique would not translate accurately in latin culture without a better understanding of our cultural values." Captain explains.

"Now is a good time to find out, right?"

"Uh,Captain, I'd like to get a handle on the type of press this has been getting and meet some of the local police here." JJ says.

"Of course, but I imagine you would all like to settle into your rooms and rest before we go?" The Captain says as as they all nod.

" No. We're ready. Let's go."

We all pile into the same police car. Elle, Gideon, Hotch, and  Eden were  in one car. Eden was in the middle of Elle and Hotch. As Captain Navarro drove.

"Entonces, ¿qué crees exactamente que el agente Gideon se equivocó en tu cultura?" (So what exactly do you think agent Gideon got wrong about your culture?) Eden asked the Captain.

He smiles "Bueno, hay dos principales- " (Well, there are two main-)

"English, english. Por favor, English." (Please) Gideon snips as Eden rolls her eyes.

"I was explaining to agent Gideon that his profiling theory doesn't take into account Two powerful influences on Mexican culture. Which is family, and machismo."

"You have some interesting ideas." Gideon smiles and looks back at the trio.

" The district attorney general put me in charge of this killing when she realized that we had a relationship. She had me invite you down to help us settle this mess."

" You are aware that we may not be giving you the answer you are looking for on this one, yes?" Gideon explains.

"You think the papers are right?"

" What are they saying exactly?" Elle asked

"SeÑorita," the captain says, handing her a copy of the newspaper. She opens it to the front page then scoffs handing it to Eden.

"There's a serial assassin who's killing elderly women in local towns. And the attorney general and the authorities are moving slowly." Eden reads smiling at Elle.

"We'll see." Gideon murmurs.

//

The drive was quiet. Soon They  pull up to the first crime scene: a white rusty trailer with a red door, which was propped open. They climbed out of the car. The street was littered with women and children who were all carrying decorations and holding hands.

"As profilers, I thought you'd want to see the crime scene first, before meeting the suspects, yes?" The Captain says as Eden nods.

"You remembered something from my lecture, huh?"  Gideon beams, a smile plastered on his face. Reid and Morgan finally arrived. Reid stands in between Hotch and Eden.

" Actually, I got it from your mentor, Max Ryan. His book. It's a great read. The victim's name is Lupe Trejo. 62. She was found in the bedroom by the daughter. No sign of forced entry."

" Are there always this many people around?" Hotch asked, looking at the crowds of people behind them.

" No. Church just got out. They're walking home from the town square."

"What time was she killed?" Gideon leers.

"I'm guessing some time during the evening mass. There wouldn't have been a lot of people around. Otherwise he would've been seen." The Captain says

" Unless he blended right in." Hotch murmurs as they all head into the house.

" No forced entry means one of two things."

" A push in, he holds a knife or a gun to her and forces his way inside." Derek responds as Eden  smacks a pair of gloves onto her wrist.

"The murder weapon, the knife, was taken from the kitchen and placed at the scene."

"In that case, it's most likely that she let the killer in voluntarily. She looked through the peephole, saw someone she recognized, someone who made her feel safe." Elle explains picking up a frame picture off the table.

"She lets him in and then what?" Gideon says, looking around.

"They have a drink? Hey, did you run a DNA analysis on this?" Reid asks holding up a cup that has lipstick on it.

" The closest thing we have to a crime scene unit is Detective Hernandez. He has a fingerprinting kit from 1984." Captain explains as Eden whistles, surprised.

" Find anything?"

" The victim's prints were on one. The prints on the other one were too smudged to make any match but I don't think the killer drank this anyway." The Captain explains.

They check the house and bounce some more theories off of one another. Before they decided to look through each room of the house.  Eden went to her daughter's room and looked at the jewelry with Elle when Derek walked in. She was ignoring him. As soon as he walked in she walked right back out. She hated being around him. He made  her heart race and her skin hot. He's also too curious. He needed  to know things at all times. She was not ready to let him in just yet,  not now at least. She doesn't trust him. They  followed the team out of the house.

"You are almost certainly looking for a heterosexual male." Gideon says to the Captain.

They talk in front of the house some more before all of them decide to  head back to the police station.

//

Elle and Eden lean on a couple desks. As they watch, Derek and Reid pin things up on the bulletin board. Derek looks her way and she rolls her eyes. Going to get coffee from the machine.

"You know ignoring him isn't going to make it better." Spencer says from behind her. She  turns to face him, stirring some sugar in her coffee.

"That's your twelfth cup since we have been awake." He says as she sighs. He places a hand on her shoulder looking in her eyes, his chocolate orbs burning into her hazel ones.

"I haven't been able to sleep."

"Is it Mark again?" Reid asks  as she nods. He says nothing more and hugs her, making her relax under his touch.  She felt safe with Reid, unbothered, He wouldn't ridicule her, or tell her  to be strong about it or man up. He will only help, not judge her or pick on her or laugh at her but embrace her. He accepts her for who she is and Eden likes that about him.

"Why don't you come to her room later? We could drink tea and watch Doctor Who."

"That would be great, Reid." Eden smiled at him. They  lock arms and return to Derek and Elle. Who finished pinning up the last picture on the board.

It was  getting dark out and after everything Hotch explains everything  they gather outside, trying to come up with a solution.

"The best way to bring the attorney general on board is by providing a complete profile." Gideon explains.

"What do you need from me?" The Captain asks

"We need the files of all the murders."

"Of course, but I must warn you. These reports were taken by local police in the area who are not used to this type of thing. Most basic details are missing."

" We'll take a look at them." Reid offers from his spot next to Eden. They are both leaning on a police car. Eden yawns and he smiles up at her.

"We also need to get the whole story out of Miguel Trejo. And right now he's not talking."

"Why does that matter? Obviously, he's not a serial killer." Captain snaps everyone can sense his sass.

" 'Cause there's obviously a great deal of anger in the family, and before we give a profile we need to rule out the fact that this might be a crime of passion and not one of the serial killings." Hotch sasses back.

"And why wouldn't Miguel talk if he's innocent?" Derek asks.

"Must have something to do with the fact that he's a homosexual."

"He'd rather be straight in jail than gay as a free man?" Derek continues.

"I can protect him here. But if he's taken to a prison in Mexico City and the other inmates find out that he is gay he will be killed. That's the way things work here." The Captain says as Eden sighs.

"So how do we get him to talk?" Edens asks. As everyone looks at each other trying to see what they can come up with.

Hotch sends Gideon and Elle with the Captain to talk to the sister. The rest of the team stay back refreshing their cups of coffee and brainstorming. They return thirty minutes later with new details.

"She may have come clean about that day, but I still think she's hiding something." Elle explains.

" The way she went on about shame- -Almost like she was talking about herself."

"This is interesting. Before Miguel met Roberto, Roberto had a wife." The Captain says,  handing the file to Gideon.

" Well if he was bisexual-"

"That makes him capable of sexual homicide of a woman." Gideon interrupts.

" And if he blamed Miguel's mother for denying their relationship that would give him a motive."

"We need to find Roberto." Derek says.

With that they call it a night. The officers take them  to their hotel room.  Eden goes to her room and showers again, the water feels amazing on her skin. She stays in the shower for ten more minutes. Before changing into her pjs a silk top with silky shorts to match. She slips on a cardigan and grabs her room key and phone, closing her door behind her. Padding to Reid's room in her monster feet slippers. She knocks on his door, and he opens it wearing an oversize Star Trek t-shirt and sweatpants. He smiles, towel drying his hair, and steps to the side, letting her into the room.

"You popped the popcorn." She beams as he plops down on the bed next to her.

"Are you ready?" He says, popping the disk into the player. She nodded, shuffling popcorn into her mouth. He plays the disk as she turns off the lamp next to the bed, both of  them scooting to the back of the bed, their backs touching the head board. She snuggled her head into his neck. Before long the two of them are sleeping. Not a care in the world.

//

"Pretty Boy, rise and shine" Morgan's voice is heard outside of the door.

Eden groaned, lifting her head up and looking at the door, tapping Reid awake next to her who also groaned.

"What?" He murmurs as she points to the door covering her head with the pillow to drown out Morgan's knocking.

"Yeah just a second," Reid mutters, pushing himself off the bed. Eden just groans again and pulls the blankets off of her, sliding her slippers back on, she trudges towards the door ripping it open. She yawns walking up to Derek with a weary smile.

"Morning," she murmured, taking a cup of coffee from the brown cup holder in his hands. She hums as takes a sip of the brown liquid and trudges to her room.

She got dressed and walked out of her hotel room joining the team into the squad  car again.Gideon, Derek and The Captain talked with Roberto. He explains how he ran into a woman on the street. She had a badge claiming she was a social worker, she looked heavy, mid forties.they went back to the police station with their information on Roberto.

"I don't think he did it."

"Why not?" Reid asked, spinning a globe that sat on the captain's desk.

"The way he talked about Miguel. He didn't point the finger at his boyfriend. I think a guilty man would've."

"See if he has an alibi. Run his prints against any found at the scene." Gideon was slowly pacing. "Right now though, I feel confident we can rule out a family fight as a motive for the murder"

"There's a call from the FBI." a deputy explains he hits a button on the phone.

"Yeah Morgan?'

"Como Esta, My Lovelies. ES Bueno, Tripero, Esta-la?"

"Ok take it Easy PG, I think you just offended somebody's mother." Eden jokes

"Shut up Carrot Top. I took French, what can I say?"

"Penelope, your last name is Garcia?" Derek replies.

"Yeah I know it's my stepfather's name. Now do you want my genius or not?"

"Yes Please get on with it." Elle says with a sly smirk.

"Okay! So, I rushed your cups of mucus. Through all the regular channels at lightning speed. And survey says one female drinker and one male."

"Thanks doll." Derek hangs up the phone

"It's strange on this occasion to see a man drinking that drink." The captain says.

"Unless the victim thought he was a woman. The woman Roberto described. The social worker, that's a common ruse for old lady killers. What If...she is really a he in women's clothing?"

"A heavy woman," Derek nods.

"He comes to the door and knocks on it.."

"And the victim feels comfortable because. She thinks it's a woman." Eden continues as Reid nods.

"It would explain why no witnesses have come forward. No one expects the killer to be a woman. Not in this country."

"Or Ours." Elle says as the captain looks at her,

"We need to tell the locals."

"And give them the rest of the profile."  Gideon explains.

They give the profile to the local deputies.  In other words they believe that he went from being a simple peeping tom to rape than he couldnt rape anymore, so he started killing, woman in authority. Who had high family status, like grandmothers or moms. He was between the ages of 35-50  and that he would be a man dressed as a woman. They had another body Isabel santiago 67. Her throat was slit. And she was stabbed in the chest multiple times. They found beads off on her neck indicating that a necklace was taken off her neck. They step outside the house.

"For the past two years we've had an average of one killing every nine weeks." The captain explains.

" Not two in three days."

"That's a pretty extreme escalation. He'll kill again soon." Gideon says.

"Who's that over there?"

" That's the daughter of the victim." a deputy replies.

" Maybe she could tell us something about the necklace." Derek says as Eden sighs knowing she is gonna have to be his translator seeing as she is the only person who speaks spanish on the team, they walk over to the woman.

" Hola, Anna. Mi nombre es Edén. Lo siento por todo. Tengo algunas preguntas para usted, si pudiera responderlas. ¿Crees que podrías responder algunas preguntas en este momento?" (Hello, Anna. My name is Eden. I'm sorry about everything. I have some questions for you, if you could answer them. Do you think you might be able to answer a few questions right now.)

"Si. Yes."

" Your mother was wearing a necklace, it was taken from her. Do you know if it had any special significance to her?" Eden explains.

" She gave it to me for my birthday. She never bought jewelry for herself. She asked if she could wear it during the holiday." She cries.

" So this necklace was yours?"

Anna nods. " It was my favorite. I wore it almost every day."

"Navarro says there's some sort of disturbance at the police station. We're gonna go check it out." Hotch whispers to Morgan he nods and Hotch and Gideon leave with Navarro.

Eden and Derek ride back to the station quickly after hearing about the incident that took place.

"These police are not stupid men. They're frustrated. They read articles in newspapers saying that they're ineffective. And they want to prove that they are not. They will do this any way they know how." Navarro was pacing back and forth.

" We told them that the suspect was probably a man dressed as a woman. We didn't say to round up all the transvestites and bring them in."

" Why? Is it possible that this man is a transvestite?" a deputy asks as Eden shakes her head.

" No, no, no. That's not what we're saying. Men dressing like women is a manifestation of sexual preference, it is a lifestyle. It does not imply a psychology of violent behavior."

" We're talking about the killer's past. That's why we were asking for people who'd been accused of sex crimes. Are the police looking into this?" Hotch asked.

" How? Most rapes here are not even reported. And rapists are often people who have power over them. Sometimes family, sometimes even law enforcement. I have interviewed many, many women and- they do not want to talk."

"We can help you. We can teach you interview strategies. I specialized in sex crimes and I speak spanish." Eden explains.

" How do we even get to these women?"

" We hold a press conference. Let everyone know what we're looking for."JJ speaks up.

" What about the attorney general? She wants us to leave."

" Do not worry about her. I convinced her to bring you down here. I can convince her to let you stay. We will have that press conference. All I have to do is figure out... What to say." Navarro says everyone heads back inside and JJ begins coaching Navarro away from the group.  While the others were giving a more detailed profile.

"Why are we looking for a rapist?"

" Because we know this man commits sexual homicide, we could also assume that he was once a rapist."  Derek says.

" It's a lot easier to track a rapist than a killer because you have witnesses."

" You also have the chance to discover something else. The reason he began killing." Eden speaks up.

" Which is the stressor. As far as we can tell, the first killing was about two years ago. What happened to the suspect during that time?"

" A typical stressor. Loss of job. Loss of love. He may have been released from prison. Whatever it was, it made him feel impotent made him feel frustrated and very angry. And that's when he started killing. You should be talking to victims who reported rapes just before that first m*rder two years ago." Derek says.

"Hopefully the press conference will help bring some of these women forward but we also need to head out and talk to some of these people directly. You should use all the female police you have. That'll help put potential victims at ease." JJ explains.

" We don't have any, boss."

" You do now." Eden leans forward smiling at the young Deputy. They split up and Eden is with a young deputy named Javier. She rounds a corner of a busy street seeing Javier hanging up his phone.

" I've been talking to so many women and forgetting how to speak english."

"It fits you very well." he smiles as Eden laughs.

"Thanks I mean, It was either Spanish or Latin and lets just say I enjoyed Spanish more." Javier laughs.

" Well, my Spanish speaking friend. We may have something. A woman called the police station after she saw the report on television."

"Yeah?"

" She says she has information on the rapist." Javier explains they ride over to a restaurant and are pointed in the direction of the woman. She is whipping down a few tables.

"Perdona. Me dijeron que quieres hablar conmigo sobre el violador que estamos buscando. ¿Nos puedes ayudar?" (Excuse me. I was told you want to talk to me about the rapist we're looking for. Can you help us?) the woman places her rag down on the table.

" ¿Te importa?" (Do you care?)

" Lo siento?"  (I'm sorry?) Eden furrows her brows.

"Do you care? Most of the time nobody around here cares what happens to women. Nobody does anything about it. That's why nobody talks to the police."

" Gimme a second. Ok." she turns to Javier; he nods as she walks closer to the woman. so it's just the two of them. " What can the police do if when a crime is committed no one comes forward?"

" The man who attack me is a stupid dog. He's a coward. He came up from behind and he started to rape me. But then I turned around and I started hitting him. I scratched him, I made him bleed. And that's when I saw he was wearing a dress." She laughs. " A dress. I couldn't believe it. I laughed in his face. A called him a pathetic woman. He was so scared. He ran away like a little boy."

" When did this happen, milagros?"

" Two years ago." She nods, sticking to that time frame.

" If you weren't afraid of this man, why didn't you report him?"

" I told you what good would it do?" and with that she goes back to work

Eden and Javier go back to the police station.

" She claimed it happened Two years ago, in August."  Eden explains.

" The first murder happened in September."

" So she could've been the last one who was raped before whatever stressor made him kill." Navarro explains

" Or she could've been the stressor. You say this woman laughed in his face, hit him, called him a woman. Could've been enough to make him impotent."

"He tries to rape again and all he can hear is this woman laughing. Maybe he thought he could rape older women." Hotch continues

"Thought they'd be easier, wouldn't put up a fight, so he tries."

"But he can't. He gets frustrated, he kills her, and then he finds the release that he was looking for." Elle speaks up.

" So he kills again."

Javier brings in a group. " You wanted us to come forward? There are six more women who were raped by this man. Now prove to us it will finally do some good."

They begin taking down all the women's stories seeing that it is all the same.

"They all have the same story. He goes up to them in the street, puts a knife against their back, blindfolds them, and takes them out to the desert." Elle explains.

" He also kissed their neck while raping them."

" And then, when he's finished, he asks, "how did I do"?" JJ grimaces.

"Classic power reassurance behavior."

" What does that mean?" Navarro asks.

" Power reassurance rapists lack confidence. They can't develop normal relationships with women."

" Passive and non-athletic."

" He most likely fantasizes that the victims are his girlfriends, and of the different types of rapists, he's the most likely to be dissuaded if the victim screams or struggles in any way."  Reid explains.

" Is that it?"

" All the characteristics of the power-assurance rapist?"  Gideon says.

" Uh, there's actually one more."

" Excuse me. I've been going over the forms filled out by the women. 4 of them work in the same factory." Javier says as the group gathers around.

" He most likely lives and works near the victim"

Derek and Hotch talk to the factory owner and before long they come back and explain the woman who owns the factory. Said they can look through her files on all the male workers.

"So far I found more than three dozen men fit the target profile between the ages of 35 and 50."

" This owner wasn't kidding. Almost all of these guys had a citation for lewd behavior against the women here. They'd be warned once, and then they'd be fired if it happened again." Elle explains

" I wouldn't mess with her."

" Afraid of a woman, Hotch?" Eden smirks.

"Shoot, I'd be afraid of her."

Navarro comes back into the room. " Only one of these men showed up on police records, with a sex crime. He beat up a prostitute when she refused to get rough."

" Not out guy. He'd be scared, he wouldn't have the confidence to stand up to a refusal." Hotch explains.

" But this is crazy. There's way too many men here to interview and not enough time.'

"Ok, we need to narrow down the profile. What would make our guy stand out?" Hotch continues.

" From what you told me, he completely lacks machismo. He has none of the confidence of a typical man in mexico."

"Even with a knife in his hand. What was it that he said to the women after raping them?" Derek says.

"How did I do?"

" Any guy with confidence doesn't need to ask if he's doing a good job. He assumes it. In bed and at work. " Eden says.

"In bed and at work" Hotch repeats. "Come on." he leads Eden out the door.

" ¿Señora Ramírez? Esperar."(Mrs. Ramirez? Wait.) they run up to the woman. " This guy desperately wants to impress you. No matter how small the job, he always wants your approval."

" He may constantly ask, "how did I do?''

"¿Cómo lo hice?" (How did I do?)

She thinks for a moment. "Pablo vargas. He's been on vacation since 4 days ago."

" The day of Lupe Trejo's killing" Eden nods to Hotch.

" What does he do here?"

" He's the floor manager of sector 16, women's plus sizes." Mrs. Ramirez explains

" We're gonna need his address and any other information you can give us, thank you"

They get his address and have Eden approach the door at first  a few swat agents next to her.

She knocks. "Hola, ¿alguien en casa?" ( Hello, anybody home? Hello?) she walks over to the window "There's a tv on, someone's inside."

They head inside and find a dead skeleton in a chair, they assume that it is the unsubs mom she was wearing all the necklaces taken from the crime scene.  They go back to the station.

"We have a name but... How do you find him?" Navarro asks.

" We always ask "why this victim, why the next victim?" Serial killers plan their kills, and if we can figure out how he targets his victims, we can get ahead of him."

" Borquez, what is this?" Navarro points to the board that Javier brought in.

"I charted all the names of all the rape victims who came in, like they instructed us."

" That name, '' Torres." There was a murder victim with that name."

"There are 100s of torreses in this town." Javier shakes his head.

" Let me see the statements."

Navarro starts circling the last names. " What is it?"

" It's maiden names. The murder victims. And the rape victims. The names are the same."

" He's killing the mothers of the women he raped. And he's doing it in the same order."Gideon explains.

" The daughters of the last two  murder victims, Trejo and Santiago, never came forward. If we can assume they were raped, then- according to the board the next rape victim in the line was-"

" Milagros Villanueva. His last."

" He's gonna kill her mother." Eden says as everyone gets a move on to the house. Eden takes a part of the house seeing  a blood trail. She was partnered with Morgan.

"Morgan?"

Morgan runs into the room quickly. "What's up? You're all right?"

" Yeah."

He takes the lead following the trail. " Behind you." Eden says as he nods walking behind the trail slowly.

"Eden Over here!" Derek yells for the others. He turns to Eden, " Got me?"

" Yeah. Got you." There's a body on the ground from the back that looks like a woman. The body begins rolling over and coughing, they see now that it's the unsub, he has blood in his mouth.  There is rustling in the bushes and all the women who were raped appear. He was taken down by the same women he raped. They beat him with bats and castrated him.

"He pretended to be a woman. Now he doesn't have to pretend." they drop their weapons.

In the end the women were not charged for the crime, it was an act of self defense.

The ride on the jet was quiet, everyone catching up on much needed sleep. Reid had gone to the bathroom leaving Eden alone with her cup of coffee and a fashion magazine.  She  gave up on reading a book a long time ago.

"So you and Reid." Derek says sitting in Reid's seat.

"I'm not with Reid. I just like to hangout with him."

"Mhm I know a crush when I see one" he mutters as she laughs rolling her eyes.

"There's that smile. You've been ignoring me. Was it something I said?"

"No I just can't open up to you Derek not yet."

"Why not? What are you afraid of?" he asks as Eden closes her magazine.

"I'm not afraid of anything. I don't need to explain myself to you. If you want to be friends then fine but you don't need to know every single thing about me." Eden sasses  getting up from her chair and moving to a different spot. Spencer comes out of the bathroom sighing and walking over to her. Rubbing her shoulder. She lays her head on his shoulder as he rubs her arm. Causing her to yawn.

He was the only one who understood. She found herself being woken up hours later by Spencer. Who was telling her that the jet had landed.  She sleepily gathered her go bag and threw it over her shoulder.

"Let me drive. I don't trust you to drive yourself home on four hours of sleep." He says as Eden just chuckles and tosses him the keys.

"Dont fuck up my brakes or I'll kill you" she threatens as he laughs. The drive to her house was long and they finally made it just in time for the sun to come up. Thank god she didn't have any kids. Nutmeg was currently  staying with her neighbor Riley. She  was a hot yoga teacher and loved dogs.

Eden couldn't wait to just crawl into her sheets and die. But she knew she  wouldn't be able to sleep. Somehow Spencer knew this and decided that they could go back to his place. Because he had food they could eat. He laughed saying how she never had anything fun at her house and was tired of being fed an outrageous amount of pastries. Which was fair.

They  drove to his place and he unlocked the door, both of them were dead tired. They immediately went straight to bed Spencer gave her a T-shirt to wear. She put on some shorts from her go bag and climbed into bed. Spencer's sheets felt like clouds against her skin. She yawned immediately and snuggled into his pillow drifting off to sleep.

Mexican proverb, "the house does not rest on the ground, but upon a woman."
