Chapter 14- Play Pretend

You were busy running around your house, getting it ready for you last minute planned sleepover. You had watched enough movies to know what you needed in order to have the best fun filled night ever.

During this time, Night and Michael had settled down on the couch. Michael was engrossed on watching you scurry about and Night was reading one of his books. As for Dream, he was happily helping you gather any and all soft materials in your home.

So far, the pile was big enough to actually almost reach your roof.
It was quite the spectacle.

"Ok (N/N), I've got the last blanket!" Dream proclaimed loudly as he layed it down near the base of the structure.

"Good job, thanks for the help Dream." You thanked him as you brushed away some sweat off your forehead.
Yes, you were indeed sweating.

"So, what exactly is the purpose of all this?" Night asked as he closed his book and set it off to the side. Michael was staring at the impressive pile, puzzled on how it hadn't fallen yet.

"Honestly.......I'm not to sure myself." You admitted shyly. That didn't mean you couldn't come up with ways to use them though.

".....If you don't know why'd you do it?!" Night asked, absolutely baffled at your brash actions. Though, he had to admit to himself, the look on your face right now was absolutely adorable.

"I, I don't know! All the movies I've watched had a TON of pillows and blankets in them." You said, using wild hand gestures to emphasize how you were feeling.

"Fear not dear brother and friends, I am sure we can come up with a creative solution for all of this." Dream said, his head popping out from the middle of the pile. Michael jumped due to Dream's unexpected location.

Seriously, how was this thing still standing?

"That's the spirit Dream! I knew I could count on you." You praised, walking over to him and giving his skull an affectionate rub. He just, somehow, started vibrating and dissapeared back into the pillows. You slowly draw back your hand, a mix of confusion and fear evident on your face.

"Oh the pain, once again bested by my brother." Nightmare moked pain as he placed one hand on his chest and the other over his forehead.
"I thought I was special to you!" Night exclaimed, a playful aura around him as he fell back onto the couch.

You fake a gasp and run over to him, a goofy smile showing. You kneel on the ground next to where he is on the couch and see him faking being dead.
You flinch a bit before you remember that you're just playing.

"Oh no, I never meant for this to happen. Quick, someone get a medic!" You cry out, gesturing to Dream, who was currently watching the 'play' from the side.

"O-Oh, yes! Will do!" Dream jumped into action, gladly playing along with you guys. He ran over to Michael who was trying not to laugh.

"Doctor quick! My dear brother is suffering from heartbreak, you have to do something!" Dream said, dragging Michael over to you and Night. Michael tried pulling his arm away for a second but he quickly gave in.

"I'll do my best, the world depends on it." Michael said, pushing up his glasses with his free hand. He sat down next to you on the floor and "Inspected" Nightmare.

"Everyone back, I need space to work and it looks like he doesn't have much time left." Michael said in a deeper voice, clearly taking his role to heart.
You gasp again.

"No, not my Nighty!" You cried out, adding fake crying sounds. You swear you saw Night's cheeks turn a faint purple.

"Who will watch the moon with me? Who will read cringey fanfiction and fix their plots with me? Who!" You continued, Michael actually laughed, quickly trying to stop. Dream stood in a heroic position.

"I would, fair maiden!" Dream said, holding out a hand for you to take. You hastily looked away, looking at Nightmare, who's eyes were slightly open. He was watching you two.

"It wouldn't be the same." You said, wiping away tears that weren't there. You 'shove' Michael out of the way and lay your head on Night's chest. He instantly closed his eyes.
"If Night won't live, then I shouldn't either." You say dramatically, looking up at the tower, plotting.

"You can't be serious, don't do it!" Michael gasps as he looks where you're looking. You get up and run over to the soft mountain.

"I do, and I will." You pressed on, now at the foot of the mountain. You take your first step up.

Everyone but Nightmare comes to watch you from the bottom as you climb the surprisingly sturdy pillows and blankets.
That is, until you were at the top.
Once you were there, the structure stared leaning.

You proceed to stand up tall, looking down at the people who were 'worried for your life'. Michael took the role of looking absolutely terrified while Dream looked ready to catch you. The tower leaned even more as you just swayed along with it.
It was really quite impressive.

The mountain finally gave way and you were falling towards the ground. You closed your eyes as you fell, trusting that either the pillows and blankets would cushion your fall or that one of your friends would catch you.

You land in someone's arms, several pillows falling, and burying, the both of you soon after. Your only laugh as you surface out of the, now sea, of pillows.

Looking around, you search for your 'savior'. You see a shocked Michael and Dream looking on at you, at the edge of the sea. Well if they're over there, that only leaves........

Night burst out from underneath the pillows and you see him frantically search for you. You smile brighter and shuffle through the pillows over to him.
You tap him on the shoulder and he looks at you, quuckly hugging you to him.

"Are you ok? Nothing hurts right?" Night asks, pulling away and checking you over for injuries. You just laugh.

"I'm ok, really. You caught me." You said in efforts to calm him down. You looked into his eyes and he looked back.

It started to get awkward after a bit and you realized he would think something was up. Casting a quick glance to Dream and Michael, you awkwardly smile at Nightmare and give him a quick kiss on the cheek.

"You saved me from a horrible fate my dear friend!" You said, inwardly cringing. Nightmare blushed profusely but seemed to wince at something.
You hastily walk away from him and towards your other guests. Oh dear.

"Well that was exciting." Michael said as he seems to snap out of a shocked state. Same with Dream.

"Ok, what do we do now?!" Dream asked, anxious to keep the fun going.

You take a second to cool your blush and think for a moment. What should you do next?

"I have a few movies we can watch and then we can toast some marshmallows over my stove." You soon offered. You had no place for an actual fire so a hot stove top would have to do.

"That sounds like fun." Michael said, starting to like this sleepover very much.

You walk over to towards your tv, kicking some pillows out of your way, and turn on your DVD player. You then go over to a side closet and pull out a while box of movies you've collected over time. You haul the box back over to your friends.

"Ok, you guys can pick a movie you want to watch while I prepare some snacks in the kitchen." You says cheerfully.

Dream is practically on that box immediately as the rest of you stop and watch him for a sec, completely baffled.
You proceed to stalk off quietly to the kitchen.

You put a bag of popcorn into the microwave and turn on the stove for it to heat up. The popcorn stops popping so you quickly take it out, placing its contents into a large bowl, then placing another bag in.
You take this time to go into your pantry to gather the flavorings for the popcorn and the bag of marshmallows.

When you come back into the kitchen, you nearly drop all the items in your arms. Dream was standing in the middle of the kitchen, looking right at you with unreadable eyes. You start to get creeped out.

"Uh, Dream?" You ask, setting your materials down on the counter beside you slowly.
He swiftly comes by your side.

"We need to talk. I saw something in your.....dream of negative origins, that we need to discuss." He says in a rather hushed voice. You almost shiver at the coldness of it.

"Uh, alright. Let me just get this out." You said, reaching past him to open the microwave. Luckily you made it in time  so the popcorn was ok.

"While you were sleeping, did you notice any kind of strange creature?" Dream asks you while you poured the hot popcorn into the bowl.

"Um.....I-I think." You responded, a chill going down your spine as you forced yourself to think back to that awful experience.

"What you saw in there, it's a very....nasty..... parasite. It's called a Senti-Spirit." He explained, his expression softening a bit. He looks at you worriedly.
"(Y/N), it feeds off strong negative emotions. Are you ok?" He asked you. You tence up slightly.

You debated in your mind. Should you tell them? If Dream can tell now, it won't be long until the others figure it out.
But you're not ready to let yourself go. You must keep hiding.

You must

"Oh, yeah, I'm ok. No need to worry about me, just tired if anything........work keeping me busy. Ya know?" You said, holding on to the presentation of yourself you've built. It will not crumble. It just can't.

They can't see you like that

Dream lets out a quiet sigh. He smiles at you.

"If you say so (N/N). Just know we're all here for you, alright? And we will talk later." With that said, Dream places a gloved hand on your shoulder, looking you in the eyes once more, then leave the kitchen. Your left alone with your thoughts and a large bowl of popcorn.

He says that, but does he really mean it?

You shake yourself out of your thoughts. You have to keep going.

You put your desired flavoring on the movie snack (I need more names for popcorn darn it! I hate when things get repetitive) and mix it up well. Then, you put butter over all of it. Now it should taste just like real movie popcorn.

Grabbing a few forks in your free hand not holding the bowl, you head on over to the living room where your friends are waiting.

"Ok guys, I hoped you picked a movie. Here's some popcorn for us to share and everyone take a fork, the stove and marshmallows are ready." You announce, everyone but Night jumping up towards you.

You hand a fork to Michael and Dream, pointing them in the direction of the stove. They, of course, run off and you see them tear open the package of mellows before you turn to Night.

"Here you go, get yourself a mellow." You said with a smile, handing him a fork.

He reaches out for it, brushing hands with you on accident. You both blush brightly and Nightmare quickly pulls back. He looks at you.

"Thank you...... Stardust, thank you." Night said while looking you deep in the eyes. You almost screamed at the fact that he gave you a nickname.
You then notice he's leaning a bit closer to you.
Unfortunately, you panic and back away.

"U-Uh, we'd better go get some marshmallows before those two eat them all. C'mon!" You voice was a pitch higher then usual.

You grab Nightmare by the hand and tug him along with you to the stove.
Fortunately for you, you were right about the mellows.
Wait, is that really such a good thing?
Dream and Michael aren't even resting them, they just keep stuffing their faces with the delectable treats.

"Hey, dont eat all the marshmallows guys, have some self control will ya?!" You call out to them. You still held Night's hand.

Michael immediately stopped upon your command, Dream only responded by slowly stuffing yet another marshmallow in his mouth.
