Angel/VD: A Way Out

Summary: Set in Angel S2 when he was looking for a way to save Darla. What if Kat offered a way to save her? What will happen?

It was a dismal night, as Angel walked through the LA streets, heading for Lorne's bar, needing to find a way to save Darla.

Suddenly, when he sensed her nearby, he stopped.

"You really want a way to save Darla?" she asked him, leaning against a wall by a store.

When he saw where she was, he approached her.

"You know I do," he answered the former 500-year-old vampire.

"How about you buy me a drink. Then we'll talk," Katherine replied.

"Deal," he told her.

Half an hour later, they were at Lorne's bar, her across from him at a table with a drink.

"How do I save her, Katherine?"

She didn't immediately answer his question. Instead, she told him, "I know what it's like to die slowly, as you know. When I came here on accident, you and the others gave me a place, true friends, and purpose as a human. I'm going to help you with Darla, not because you care for her or that she turned you, but because I know the feeling. That, and it wouldn't be a good thing if she became a vampire again. I know some witches that could help, but there's only one that would willingly help with anything I ask. If I'm right, she's in New Orleans. She has a reputation of being able to find solutions before it's too late."

"What's her name?" he asked.

"It's best if I ask her help. Right now, you're a little too demanding. If you must know though, she's Klaus' older sister. Her name's Freya Mikaelson."

"Call her then," he told her.

"You should know first that you need something personal of Darla's. Where I'm from, most spells require something personal."

"Darla's never been the sentimental type," he informed her.

"I was always the same way, but I still had something close to me." She brought something out. "As a vampire, I kept a locket that my mother gave to me, but this was always the most valuable to me. It always will be. Elijah had this Daylight bracelet especially made for me. I lost the one Emily gave me, so he gave this one to me." She put the bracelet back in her pocket. "Find something personal of Darla's. Otherwise, there might not be a way to save her. Now, take me back to the Hyperion Hotel. Meet me back there when you've got what you need."

She finished her drink. Then they both got up, heading out.

After he'd taken her back to the Hyperion, he went to find Darla. He had to give her hope of a way. He also needed something special of hers. No matter what, he was willing to do anything to save his former sire.

Meanwhile, Kat was on the couch in the lobby. She was explaining everything to Freya. She was also asking her what spell it was that had to be done. After all, Kat had learned control over her Traveler magic after coming to LA, so she wanted to know if it was possible for herself to perform it. And, after all of that, it seemed that it could be her.

Angel was in a room at the Hyperion, having a few moments with her by himself.

He approached the bed and sat next to her. He knew she didn't want to die human, but he wasn't going to turn her.

"There might be a way out. A loophole," he informed her.

"Are you certain?" she inquired, having a hard time believing that she could be saved from this.

"Yes. I just need something that's valuable to you," he replied to her.

"You know, I've never been the sentimental type," she replied. She brought out a locket. "This has always been the only sentimental thing I've kept in all these years," she informed him, giving it to him. She didn't have to ask him if he remembered it, because she knew he'd seen it with her throughout her vampire years that he'd known her.

Angel didn't say anything, since this moment didn't require anything to be said. He just took the locket and left the room, meeting Katherine downstairs in the lobby.

Kat was standing by a desk in the lobby, all set up for the spell that she'd be performing, when she saw Angel come downstairs and approach her with something. Then, when he stood by her, she saw that it was a locket. She was certain that it probably used to have different pictures in it, but the two pictures the opened locket had were her and Angel. She was certain that these pictures were back before he'd received his soul, though.

"Are you ready?" she questioned him, though she knew that he was always ready for anything. A lot like herself.

"Of course," he replied, giving her the locket.

She took the locket from him. Then she began the spell.

Twenty minutes later, the spell was completely, so she cleaned up. Then, after he went to check up on Darla, it was revealed that the spell had worked. Now, Darla could live a full human life if she wanted to.
