Bondi Beach (iii)

***

"Mom!"

Eden cried out in delight the minute Angelina stepped into the room her small arms raised up for a hug.

"My baby!" Angelina cooed her eyes set firmly on Eden who was looking particularly small in the hospital bed.

Marshall and Curtis were stationed in the uncomfortable hospital chairs beside Eden's hospital bed trying to keep her busy. The room was filled to the brim with balloons and fluffy teddy bears courtesy of Curtis.

Within the space of three hours the men spoiled Eden buying anything she could want or need although they were limited to the gift shop. It wasn't until they where refused at the till did they eventually stop.

Chris and Liam had left not too long ago for a change of clothes and to reassure their own family members. The Marvel phenomenon had given his statement to the police an hour after arriving to the hospital. Eden being a minor meant the police had to wait until Angelina was present.

The shark attack was being broadcasted around the world, the media using Marshall, Curtis and Chris names to gather further traction. They would do anything for the views. The media had no moral compass. It was only a matter of time that Eden's name would be leaked.

Pictures of the boys present at the scene of the accident would cause people to fill in the blanks especially after Eden's recent Instagram post of the beach.

Angelina stayed quiet engulfing Eden in a motherly hug, time had never been so precious.

After a while Marshall wondered if Angelina would ever release the little girl although it didn't seem that Eden minded her mother embrace.

It was a rather emotional reunion causing Eden to once again break down into tears. The recent events were too overwhelming for any little child to handle.

Time passed before Eden finally spoke, "I'm alright mom".

Sniffling Angelina pulled away cupping her daughters cheeks, "I know, you scared me though. Trouble seems to follow you everywhere, huh?" Ang chuckled dryly pressing a kiss to Eden's forehead. "My little baby"

"He was just hungry" Eden mumbled into her mothers chest, "the shark, he can't go shopping like we do"

Marshall choked on his drink finding the comment all too amusing for the current situation. Curtis didn't even try as his chuckles filled the room. Although a sharp look from a nurse caused Curtis to clear his throat, " nah your right Eden"

"Yeah he probably thought we were fish or seals something he usually eats"

"I guess so.." Angelina mumbled nodding her head absentmindedly. In her dazed state Angelina didn't see Marshall stand up to greet her.

"Where did you learn about sharks, Eden" Curtis piped up curiously.

"The discovery channel" Eden replied her eyes flickering over to the door only then noticing Jacob. His eyes were obviously  red and puffy from crying.

For their entire journey Jacob and Angelina listened tentatively to the radio broadcasting any news on the recent attack. To say it didn't ease their nerves was an understatement. But their line of misfortunes didn't end there as they pulled into the parking lot every form or media outlets seemed to be in attendance. Angelina and Jacob didn't make it inside unnoticed.

It was the first shark attack on Australia's most famous beach in over eighty years so it was only a matter of time before Edens name would be involved. Angelina could already see it now, the next few months were going to be hell.

"huh" Curtis nodded, his eyes flickering over to the worried boy who stayed standing by the door.

"Jake!" Eden smiled tapping the space beside her.

Jacob only paused for half a second before her bounded over and threw himself beside her.

"Are you alright?!" he whispered his voice cracking with emotion.

"I- it scared me but I didn't get injured. Chris made sure of it, he punched the shark in his gills" Eden told him quietly unaware of the adults listening to her every word.

"He's moved up the ranks, I think I'll put his as the third best superhero now" Jacob claimed after a minute of silence causing Eden to giggle for the first time since the attack.

It was as if a weight had been lifted off of Marshall's shoulders. She would be okay.

"Wait! What happened to the surfer who got bit?" Jacob asked in wonder. "We heard it on the radio?"

"He was asking Chris for a photo one second and then he was gone, I thought he just fell at first but then the water started turning red and he resurfaced screaming. The shark bite his right leg, I had to tie it to stop the bleeding. His foot was gone an--"

Eden paused when a heavy knock broke her story telling causing everyone to jump, their attention being solely focused on Eden.

"Apologies Ms.Jolie the police are here to take Eden's statement now that your present" A doctor announced his eyes flickering over the girls vitals naturally.

"Oh! of course... Marshall, Curtis can you take Jacob-"

"We got it, let's go get some food Jake" Marshall smiled patting the boys shoulder reassuringly.

Jacob trudged out the door with a frown plastered across his face. The thought of leaving Eden again wasn't an appealing idea for the boy.

"Come on son, we'll get Eden some food you can pick it out for her" Curtis suggested trying to make the boy move.

Eden watched them leave, her eyes flickering up to the two policemen that immediately took their place.

"Hello Eden, I'm Office Sam and this is my partner Frank. We're going to ask you a couple of questions about the recent events if that's alright?" he asked fully aware at how traumatic these memories could have for such a young child.

"Okay" Eden nodded her hand clutched in Angelina's for reassurance.

"Alright.. well why don't you tell us from your point of view what happened. From the moment you entered the water"

"Oh um, well Chris promised he would let me surf a big wave with him and-"

"Chris Hemsworth?" Frank interrupted needing confirmation.

"Yes, he was teaching me to surf. So we got on his board and paddled out passed the break. We were just about to paddle in for our last wave when Noah pulled up beside us. He recognized Chris and wanted a photo when we got in" Eden explained her thumb rubbing over Angelina's subconsciously.

"And then?"

"And then he was gone, I- I froze not knowing what happened until the water started to change colour. He came up a minute later..." Eden stated her bottom lip trembling.

"Take your time, it's alright" Sam reassured his eyes flickering over to the Angelina Jolie, he watched her as she tried to keep her emotions in check.

"Um.. when he came up, that's when I finally saw the fin. Noah was screaming for help so we started to paddle over to him, but before we could the shark attacked our board. Chris pulled me back just in time before he took a lump out of it. Chris started thumping the shark to get it away"

"Can you describe the shark?.. it's size, or colour?"

"It was definitely a great white and he was very hungry" Eden answered with a little hesitation. Unfortunately a photographic memory was both a blessing and a curse, she could remember it all.

"A great white" Frank nodded, it was a consistent answer amongst the witnesses. "After the shark took a bite out of the board what happened next?"

"Well we reached Noah and pulled him onto the board, we tried to do it quickly but he was very heavy and a huge chunk of our board was gone. Eventually other surfers nearby came and helped us get him on. Chris told me to tie the leg wrap around his leg tightly to stop the bleeding"

"You tied the board wrap on his leg?"Sam nodded writing down the key piece of information. Eden's actions were the main factor in Noah's survival.

"Yes, um he was hurt very badly, his foot was gone and there was a lot of blood around us. I could still see the shark circling. I knew we needed to get back into the shore quickly" Eden told them her eyes wide as she recounted the events.

Angelina wiped the tears that escaped Eden's eyes, trying to contain her own. Holding on by shier will Angelina was there for her daughter.

"Then the lifeguard showed up on the jet ski, but they decided not to risk moving Noah with the shark still circling. It was a good thing too because the shark took a bite out of the jet ski's board"

"The shark took a bite out of the jet ski" Sam repeated as he wrote down the details word for word.

"Mm-hmm Chris managed to catch a wave in before he could attack again, I don't remember getting off the board though"

"What was the last thing you remember Ms.Eden?"

"I- um" Eden thought her nose scrunching up in thought. "I don't know, I guess after we caught the wave"

"and when do your memories pick up?"

"I was on a stretcher, Marshall was there and some other people asking me questions" Eden squinted, she wasn't used to fuzzy memories a symptom of shock. Good or bad her memories would return in time.

"Marshall Mathers? commonly known as Eminem?"

"Yeh, Curtis, Chris and Liam were there to in the ambulance. It's very fuzzy though"

"We can stop there Ms.Eden, you've done a fantastic job!" Officer Sam encouraged with a small smile, he couldn't imagine one of his children going through all this.

"Good job baby" Angelina cooed planting a kiss on her forehead.

"If you remember anything else please give us a call, here's our number" Sam stated handing over a small card.

"Will do" Angelina smiled politely before returning her attention to Eden. The officers took the leave passing the three celebrities on there way food stacked high in their arms. The boys had charmed the nurses for extra sweets, it wasn't hard when they used Jacobs charming smile.

Within the next half an hour Eden had fallen asleep, her soft snores  escaping in puffs.

The monitor beside her bed beeped in a slow and steady pace reflecting the little girls heart rate. It was a massive contrast to where the young girl was hours ago.

Angelina paused in front of the door before stepping outside, she needed to use this time to catch up with the doctors and let them know they would take care of Noah's hospital bills in full. Marshall and Jacob would look after her in the mean time.

To Angelina's relief the news was good, Eden would be released the following morning if everything went to plan.Under doctors orders Angelina had arranged a meeting with their therapist once they returned home. These traumatic events couldn't be looked over and Angelina wouldn't have Eden scared to go back into the water.

It wasn't until hours later did they get news on Noah condition. The young surfer had made it through his emergency surgery and would live only one limb less.

It was a lucky escape and Noah's family were beyond grateful. There was a lot of people to thank, for without their services the boy wouldn't have lived another hour.

By this time news of Eden-Roses involvement in the incident had circled around the globe. She was being deemed a hero for tying up Noah's leg to stop the blood flow, it had saved his live in the end. The story had taken over life-stream media thanks to the A-listers and their hoards of fans. They claimed it to be an action film waiting to happen.

Already fans speculated on Robert Downey Jr disappearing act from the Jimmy Fallon to be in-conjunction with his fellow colleague and friends safety, Chris Hemsworth. As of yet no one had joined the dots together that Robert was indeed Eden's father even if it was getting exceedingly obvious.

***

Robert dashed into their Australian home, bags flung by the door as he bolted through the house.

"Eden?"

"Robert! kitchen!!" Angelina called her voice travelling through the open house. It was a beautiful farm house located in Queensland, close to the films location. The two story paradise had become Eden's haven during her time in Australia, the paparazzi couldn't reach her no matter how hard they tried.

Robert Ignored the stunning architecture around him as he trudged forward not stopping until his eyes rested on his little girl.

"Dad!" Eden squealed bolting off the island seat, a smile over taking her beautiful face when she was encompassed in his arms.

"Princessa! how's my little baby, eh?" he asked peering through her blonde curls to look at Angelina and Marshall. The rapper remained seated with a can of red bull in his hand, it nearly caused Robert to laugh. Angelina Jolie was a health freak he couldn't imagine that the rapper didn't get a lecture before drinking the sugary beverage.

"I'm alright dad, I went to see Noah today" she smiled her fingers tangled with the necklace around his neck that had her name printed in solid gold. He had it made the moment Eden was born where it remained hidden around his neck, undiscovered for the past eleven years.

"Yeah? and how's he doing?"

"Very positive" Angelina replied in English before getting a plate of food for Robert.

"That's good! I'll have to visit him. I heard from Chris that he's a massive Marvel fan"

"Would you?! that would make his day! Mom said Chris is going tomorrow with Liam" Eden whispered quietly. She knew from their little chat that Noah was a massive Marvel fan, he even mentioned some comic books he had collected.

"Of course darling" Robert smiled before picking up his daughter for another hug. Angelina only smiled knowing it wasn't the time to remind him Eden was too old to be lifted.

"Robert there's some food here for you" Angelina told him pulling out the chair beside Eden. But the man was too busy greeting Jacob and Marshall to notice.

"Oh! What are we having?"

"Seafood!" Jacob joked causing Eden to roll her eyes and giggle, Marshall snorted into his food as Angelina tried to reprehend him. Robert chortled out a laugh from the unexpected answer, it felt good to laugh after such a nerve wrecking journey.

They would alright, everything would return to normal soon or so they hoped.

A week had passed since the shark attack and Bondi beach had officially been reopened. After a solid three days of no shark sightings they deemed it safe to reenter the water. An occasional helicopter flew overhead to check as an extra security measure.

People and holidaymakers remained cautious when taking a dip although the same couldn't be said for the surfers who had gone straight back out a day later.

The boys in blue watched the water cautiously especially the few who had witnessed and attended to the victims that day. It still haunted them and would for a very long time.

The lifeguards weren't expecting any visitors to the tower especially not a rally of celebrities and bodyguards. Thankfully the beach goers remained oblivious to their attendance, they could slip in and out without a circus following their every move.

Throughout the week the life guards were made aware of just how important Eden-Rose was to the world. The child at only eleven years old was an A-list celebrity from her numerous modeling campaigns, movies and of course family connections. It was bizarre how far the public went, many gifts had been left at the tower for both the child and boys in thanks.

A knock boomed on the towers door effectively cutting off any further conversations.

"Get that will you?" Hoppo instructed his young trainee Maxi. Who he had stationed at the tower until he felt better about the past events.

The blonde lifeguard eagerly opened the door only to stop dead in his tracks. "No way"

"Hi Maxi! can we come in?" Eden grinned showing off her adorable dimples. The bodyguards didn't wait for an answer as they gestured Marshall, Angelina and Jacob into the tower. They didn't want to be spotted because only mayhem would follow.

Maxi crouched down to Eden's height and wrapped her in a warm hug, "You feeling better?"

"I am! I just wanted to come and say thank you for your help"

"Well then come on up there's loads of people who would like to see you" Maxi cheered enthusiastically. His eyes growing wide at the sight of Eminem and Angelina Jolie, the most beautiful woman alive. There was no removing the deep flush creeping up his neck.

Angelina laughed at the young boys energy he reminded her of a young golden retriever. Marshall barely contained his amused smile as Jacob barged forward wanting to finally meet the boys in blue despite the circumstances.

"I'm Jacob Duffy you should remember that name because I'm going to be bigger than Eminem" he stated confidently finally breaking Marshall who let out a loud laugh.

"Cocky little shit"

"You leave him be, it's good to have confidence" Angelina giggled before holding out her hand to the boy who remained wide eye before them.

"Hello darling, I'm Angelina and this is Marshall"

"I-I'm.. um I'm Maxi" he returned forgetting his name momentarily.

"Nice to meet you, Eden mentioned you were one of the lifeguards that gave her a ride in the buggy"

"Yeah.. well we thought her bodyguards well we thought they weren't good, you know?"

"Of course, it's a good thing you's intervened just to make sure" Angelina acknowledged happy that they took there jobs seriously. From the entry way they could hear Eden and Jacob's cackling laughs, they must be having a good time.

"Is your boss here? I'm told he goes by Hoppo?"

"YES! I mean... yeah sure come on up.." Maxi grinned not pausing for a second.

"He's very happy"  Marshall muttered quietly to Angelina who lets out a giggle before grabbing his hand. "Come on"

Eden and Jacob sat amongst the lifeguards, the young Irish boy taking charge in the direction of the conversation although they were all dying to know Eden's point of view from the attack.

"So how you've been little star?" Deano asked as he placed a Bondi cap on her head.

"Good" Eden nodded not giving much away. In reality it had been much more difficult than they had expected. Eden would wake up in sweat and tears from her nightmares, she wasn't able to fall asleep without someone beside her now.

Then there was the baths and showers fiasco. Which Eden refused to take until the third day home. Things began to look up when Eden suggested visiting the Bondi lifeguards, going back to the beach was a big step.

"I visited Noah yesterday, he told me to tell you 'thank you' and when he's better he'll come and visit"

"And how's he doing?"Hoppo questioned concern shining in his eyes.

"He's really positive, and can't wait to get back into the water"

The boys nodded solemnly knowing the chances of the boy surfing again were slim.

"Well we very happy to see you! an--" Harris cut off as his eyes fell on Angelina Jolie who left the men speechless. Eden's nose scrunched up at their love sick faces although she couldn't contain her wide grin watching their smiles fall when Eminem stepped into the photo. He was after all one of the greatest rappers alive and had made it known Angelina was off limits.

Discretely as possible the boys shared a looked of awe, it was their best day of service to date.

"Good morning boys!"

Angelina received a chorus of mixed greetings, some stumbling over their words.

"I'm Hoppo, head lifeguard" the man smiled trying to ignore the boys snickers as his neck flushed red.

"Just the man we where looking for"

"You where?"

"I mean how can I help?!" Hoppo nodded before stepping closer, very aware of the humongous bodyguards that stood behind them.

"Yes well we just wanted to thank you and the boys for everything you did to help Eden, Noah and Chris" Angelina began with a kind smile. "We want to make a donation so is their any piece of equipment that you need or could need in the future that we could get?"

"Oh no that won't be necessary" Hoppo denied knowing the boys were just doing the job.

"We're going to make a donation, I just wanted to know if there's anything you's need or want in particular" Angelina shrugged knowing they had enough money to show their appreciation.

Robert had already gifted Chris and his family generously, no money was enough to express their overwhelming appreciation. Eden was their number one priority.

Hoppo ran a hand through his hair knowing their was some equipment that the boys could do with. But it was a challenging question to answer straight away.

"We have a few things for the boys like snacks, and alcohol for when the shift is over. I can leave a phone number for when you decided on the equipment, I'll be in Australia for the next  month so during that time would be best".

"Thank you, it means a lot to the boys to have people they help come back. Your daughters a brave young lady"

"You don't understand how grateful I am to have you boys there and looking over the beach. It's a brave and difficult job, so I commend them all" Angelina replied before stepping back up to the main audience. They didn't wait long to ask for a photograph.

I mean when would they get this opportunity again?
