Oh Baby, As The Terrors Goes. . .
~

She overheard her cries. Her heart collapsed to the floor as she heard her shrieks down the hallway. She flung the pan onto the side of the stove before scrambling for her life towards her bellows. It felt as if her heart stopped hammering, her blood ceased to pump, her lungs giving up to operate. As she sprinted, her hands were trembling as sweat emerged on her temples.

"Mommy!" The gentle angelic pitch flowed into her ears. A sigh of relief left her lips before her body began to perform normally again. She stepped into her room as she saw that she was sobbing over her dolls; the male's head was detached from the body. Her cheeks were rosy-red as her eyes were marble-like as tears fell from them.

The mother bent down and cupped her dusky cheeks. "What's wrong, baby?" She kissed her forehead before wiping her cheeks. The daughter attempted to speak up, but her mother shushed her instantly as she noticed her daughter couldn't properly inhale. The mother rubbed her shoulder as she leaned to the side to open her bedside drawer. "It's okay. Mommy's got you." She whispered before her hand grasped onto the item she was rummaging for.

She adjusted the object in her grasp before holding it to her daughter's lips. The mother nodded as she pumped the inhaler. Her cries softened to sniffles in a matter of seconds. She brought her daughter into her embrace when she unclenched and clenched her hands towards her.

"Try to stay calm in these situations, okay?" The mother laces her fingers through her hair and planting a kiss on her forehead. "I know it's difficult, baby."

She sat down on the floor with my legs crossed before patting her thigh, offering her daughter to take a seat on her lap. When she obliged, she brushed a strand of hair away from her gorgeous appearance, so she could recognize her daughter's vibrant green eyes. "Why don't you tell me what happened," She proposed before her daughter nodded, her marble-like eyes meeting her blue ones.

She sniffled and was about to wipe her runny nose, but the mother interrupted by grabbing a tissue from the box nearby and wiped her nose for her. Her eyes took a glimpse of the detached male head doll.

"I-I was playing with my dolls. They were having a party, but the dad never came home." Her daughter began to explain, but her eyes began to fill with tears once again. Her mother shook her head as she rubbed her daughter's back.

Once she regained her breathing, she continued, "I lost him, but I found him under my bed like this. I was scared that something happened to him." Her eyes were set on the doll and the mother swallowed nervously.

"Is that why daddy isn't around, mommy?" She asked. The mother's breath got caught up in her throat when her daughter's eyes connected with her own. "W-what?" She stammered.

"You said that a daddy and mommy have to hug if they want to make a baby. Where is my daddy?" She urged once again.

"He's not here, baby." The mother managed to answer. She never thought about telling her daughter the truth. She figured that she wouldn't ask about him yet until another few years.

Her daughter's eyes filled with tears as her lips trembled. "I-I want him here, mommy. I want you to bring him here, p-please." She begged her mother, but she just watched as her daughter began to lose her control again.

"I-I can't." She faltered. Her daughter stood up aggressively and placed some distance between her mother and herself. "I want my daddy here! I want to meet my daddy!" Her daughter shrieked as she stomped her foot repeatedly.

The mother stood up. "That's not how you act. You need to talk to me politely." She demanded as her posture became stern.

"Daddy! Daddy! Where is my daddy!? Please!" She continued to shout as her mother walked out of her bedroom. She closed the door, full of guilt and leaned against it.

She felt a tear run down her cheek before she muffled her sobs. She drowned herself in sorrow, her daughter's cries fading in the background. Trying to control her weeping, she slid down the door, having her knees meet her chest. Her heart was filled with heavy guilt and she had no idea how to control for the sake of her child.

She felt the doorknob jiggle and she stood up. She turned around, waiting for her daughter to be seen from behind the door. What made her heart pound was the familiar tall man with her daughter in his arms.

"We've been waiting for you to call us, but you have failed." He murmured, his other hand grasping onto the knife that was dripping from the blood. The mother gulped as her eyes were trained on the safety of her daughter. "Please, let her go." The mother pleads as she trembles.

He clicked his tongue and shook his head. "I don't think so, and I think she enjoys being in her father's embrace. Am I right, my child?" He grins as his eyes were on a miniature version of himself. She nodded gleefully as her mother's eyes were filled with fear.

"You don't want mommy around anymore, right?" He asks in a mocking tone, cocking his head to the side. The daughter shook her head as her eyes landed on her mother who was begging on her knees. "After all, she did keep me from you." He mumbled before his eyes were hostile as they landed on the mother.

She shook her head; continuing to plead for her daughter's safety, but he places her daughter down. "Why don't you go play somewhere, my dear? Your mother and I have to talk. You can hug her goodbye now, you won't be seeing her for a while, my love." He states as he cups her cheeks. She nods as he softly squeezes them then lets goes.

Her daughter waved at her mother before she ran back into her room, her father locking the door before closing it. He stalked towards the mother's shaken form. Her watery eyes were following his as he slowly circled her. Her eyes shut as her body flinched when she felt the cool surface of the knife against her body. The chills ran down her spine as the side of the knife slide over her shoulder to behind her neck.

"Now, what should I do with you?" He taunted. "I missed the first few precious years of my daughter's life and you never planned to tell me. You wanted to keep her away from me. Why?" He asked as he crouched in front of her; the knife was far away from her now.

She tried to control her sobs, but she kept shaking her head as the tears continued to fall.

He wrapped his arms around her before she fell into them. She couldn't control what she was doing or what she was thinking. He shushed her as he ran his fingers through her blonde hair. Her face was now red from intense tears.

"All I wanted from you was the truth, but you have failed to do even that. It's not up to me anymore. They said I ought to do it. Stay strong for our daughter, if not for yourself." He whispered as her cries quieted down. She gazed up at him, noticing the landscape shifted from the quietly abandoned mansion into a narrow dark ditch.

"I should leave now. It's a shame that you kept me away all these years, and now it's time for you to suffer the consequences." He adds before lying her down on her back. She no longer had any power over her body. She desired to speak, but it seemed like this was deemed to happen. Not even herself could prevent her fate.

He climbed out the ditch as her daughter appeared, leaning over to see her mother as she held a bouquet of white flowers. She grinned widely at her father before peering over her mother who stayed still.

"So long, my sweet." He says as he waves goodbye. "Bye, mommy! See you!" Her daughter ecstatically shouts as the dirt around the ditch began to sink in. The mother's eyes widened as she began to struggle.

Abruptly, she had regained her voice, but when she tried to struggle for help. . .

It was too late.

Vera's P.O.V.

4:03 pm.

"Vera! Are you okay?" I heard someone roar. I jerked up as I snapped my eyes open.

Xavier peered over me with distress in his eyes, guardedly scanning me as I wiped the sweat that formed on my forehead.

"What happened?" He questioned softly. "You were crying in your sleep." He whispered as I adjusted myself on my bed. I grasped the bottle of water next to my bed and I took a few sips from it.

"Just a bad dream, that's all." I hoarsely replied. "What time is it?" I asked.

Xavier took out his phone from his back pocket before turning it on. "It's four in the afternoon." He answered. He stroked my shoulder as I regained my breathing.

"Thank you, Xav." I grinned softly up at him. He nodded.

"Your mom's been calling you, by the way." He added when he reached my bedroom doorway. I nodded as I flung the blanket off my body. "Okay, let her know I'll be down soon."

After he left, my eyes were trained on my bump. My eyes watered when I felt the wrenching emotion wave throughout my body. I couldn't remember the details of my dream, but I knew the feeling I was encountering for my baby.

I wiped my forming tears before grabbing my cardigan and walking out of my room. I glanced at my hands that were gently trembling.

"Vera!"

I spun my head around, noticing my mother step up to me. She had a concerned look set on her appearance. My father was not far behind her as he carried a folder. My eyes darted between them. "W-what happened?"

My mother visibly swallowed as she glanced at my father. Her hand was on my shoulder as he neared me, handing me the folder. I opened my mouth, nearly asking what this was about, but my father beat me to it.

"It's about Xavier. His parents are demanding him back."
