I Wonder...

Kai had given Hari the children's book right as he returned from the library and went to his office as usual. He sat down and sighed while looking at the three books he'd gotten himself to read. Doing paperwork and playing small games with Hari or Mimic grew boring from time to time so he would turn to books instead. Just being able to put yourself in some other world was refreshing sometimes. A lot of these books he read were by authors that wrote about a 'normal' world. Were nobody had a quirk and heroes along with villains didn't exist. It was nice to read something normal. Not chaotic like the world he lived in. He wondered if he should visit the library again sometime so he could sit there and read in silence. Away from all the idiots, he had to work with. Maybe to see you again.

He wasn't sure what it was about you. He'd only seen you once and he was wanting to return. Look at you longer. Take in your features. You were...different. He could sense it. The thing he wondered the most was what you were hiding under the makeup. Many women wore makeup, sure, but you wore it differently. Did that make sense? To him it did. You were just a book on a high shelf he couldn't yet reach to read the title. What was your name he wondered?

He slid the paper out from under the books and read what it had to say. A children's activity? One for Wednesday. It was Monday. Maybe he could ask Hari to take Eri out...no that would be too risky. She wouldn't behave. Maybe take her himself? Again, no, that wouldn't work. She would act too frightened. He put an elbow on his desk and a hand to his head. He'd have to play this out slow. Keep her under tight supervision. If he wanted to learn anything about you he needed to speak with you. Come in once or twice a week for a new book for Eri. It was a shame you worked in the children's section. He could have had you directing him around the library all day even though he knew the layout like the back of his hand. You just had to make this difficult, didn't you? No matter. He'd figure out a way. He always did.

Your P.O.V - Morning

You groaned and rolled over to grab your phone. Squinting at the bright screen, you turned off your alarm and sighed. Another morning, another day to suffer. You tossed your phone on the bed and stretched your arms. Everything about the day before had left your mind and you were now focused on finding food.

You smiled and quickly got dressed. Running down the stairs you made it into the kitchen to see your mother home. That was a little strange but hey, you didn't mind. It was like you were the only one who lived here anymore. "Hey, ma. No work today?" She shook her head and looked at the food she was making. "No, just feeling sick is all. Should pass soon." You nodded a little and opened a cabinet. "If you're looking for that junk you eat every morning I threw it away."

You looked back at her a bit surprised. "You did what?"

"No need to repeat myself. It's bad for you."

"Ma, I paid for that. You can't just throw away my food!"

"I'll make something for you don't worry."

"You just said you were sick??"

"I said feeling sick. Not hacking and throwing up. I'll be fine making you something."

You rolled your eyes and planted yourself at the table. "Fine." You tried thinking of a conversation to have with her but couldn't find a topic you both were close on. You and your mother had been closer than you and your father had ever been. Although it did seem like you had more in common with your father. "Will you be showing up to the children's activity tomorrow?"

"Yeah, why do you think I called in sick? It's not hard sending in proof that you're sick in the branch I work in."

You shook your head. "You're terrible."

She smiled and put some bacon on a plate along with scrambled eggs. She set it in front of you and went back making something more. "If you buy any of that junk food again you better make sure you hide it in you're room of I'm going to throw it away."

"Understood..." You picked at your food and sighed. "Make sure you're there at nine."

You finally left home and took the car to work. You hoped today would be slow, you hadn't slept well even if it looked like you were booming with energy, and wanted to "Accidentally" fall asleep. It wasn't really that hard to get away with it. Yeah, the entrance to the children's place was glass but the desk you sat at had its own little privacy corner where nobody could look inside at you doing work unless they were standing in front of you. Not many librarians came in here so it was easy to get away with.

You finally arrived at the library and parked in the employees-only section. Pulling out your phone you put it on silent as you got out of the car. The library seemed to be serious about the whole phone being on silent rule.

Putting on your usual fake smile, you entered the library. The first thing you did was take the cart from the front office and roll it into your section of the library. You flipped the switch on the wall and watched as all the lights flickered on. Nobody was here yet, of course, the library was still closed. It was refreshing not hearing screams of running children. You took a deep breath and started walking down the isles straightening, moving, and putting books back into their places. Once done you set the cart to the side and took a quick glance around, making sure everything was in place for the day. You noticed a few stuffed animals mixed in with pro hero plushies sitting on a couch in the back corner of the room. You raised a brow and walked over to the couch. It was strange seeing them there. When did they get here? You were the only one who requested things to be placed in the children's section. You looked at them all, you saw an Endeavor, All Might, Mt. Lady, a few animals, and one strange-looking one. It was black and had a white bird-like mask with large eyes. It was strangely cute to you. Now that you think about it, it sort of reminded you of the man you met the day before. Wait. How could you forget about him? You were just fawning over him the other day... You chuckled and set the plushie back down. Oh well. Whoever put them there probably wanted the kids to be able to mess with something else other than the books or big blocks they had. You walked back to your office and sat down now waiting for the children and their parents to come in.

Mimic's P.O.V

Being picked up by you was only the beginning of the day. He was fine with it in the beginning but as the day continued more and more people, no, kids specifically, picked him up. It was tiring, to say the least. Having to pretend not to be alive, playing the role of a rag-doll. Why he was being made to do this? Who knew. Overhaul had acted differently when he got back from the library, it wasn't hard to miss. The first thing he was directed to do early in the morning was to hide somewhere in the library and keep an eye on you.

Why? Again, who knew. You were normal. Nothing special about you.

Well, nothing out of the ordinary. Just some librarian who liked kids. You were probably just fine on your own. Just watching you made him bored. Place a book there, help a child over there, return to the desk, get called over to the other side of the small space, etc. There would be nothing interesting to report back Overhaul.

With a sigh, he waited for the library to close. He only wanted to leave. Getting tossed around was getting old.

It did pique his interest however when you got up and left suddenly. He got up and snuck behind a few shelves and eventually got to your desk. He was able to get himself up onto the chair, after a few tries, and thought for a moment. He started checking the drawers first. See if you were a rival in disguise or something. Surely Overhaul would only make him watch someone important, right?

Wrong.

He moved to the computer! He searched the files, book titles. He looked at your history! Still nothing.

He found absolutely nothing on the librarian's computer. Just the things any person would expect. It was also old so there wasn't anything significant about it. He sighed and slid off the chair.

He saw a kid start walking towards him and....

He left right after that. Forget the order of leaving after closing! He was going to die of boredom! Die from the children! Ruthless!

Surely he wouldn't be too mad that he sorta just...left...right?

Maybe just make something up...
