Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Audrey and Ethan walked out of the restaurant. He opened the door for her to enter and his driver opened the door for him to enter. She was amazed at the simple yet gentleman gesture. They sat in the car and he pondered whether to ask her about Cale. Not wanting to make the situation uncomfortable since the night went surprisingly delightful.

"May I ask you a question?" He reluctantly asked.

"Sure."

"How do you know Cale Russell?" He asked.

"He is my housemate's boss. We met when I proposed to cater for their events. And... he asked me out." She replied feeling uneasy.

"You shouldn't go out with him anymore, Audrey. He's vicious." He warned scowling with just the thought of him.

"I don't think you have the right to refrain me from seeing him. You are not the boss of me, Ethan. And whatever that is going between the two of you, that's between the both of you. I've no problem with him nor you, don't drag what's going on between the two of you, to me." She rebuffed recalling her friend telling her the dispute Cale had with Ethan.

"He always have an agenda, Audrey. He's been trying to ruin my projects all these times. I don't want you to get caught up in this." He repulsed.

"He didn't even know that I knew you before. Why are you being so negative and skeptical about everything!" She revolted.

"Why are you being so ignorant and naïve. People are devious wolves, Audrey. Don't be too kind or you'll be eaten alive." He stated unable to comprehend how can a person be so naïve.

"Not everyone is like you, Mr Loyd." She riposted, unable to understand why he was being so narrow-minded and prejudiced. He always had been ever since she worked for him two years ago. She was mistaken to think that people can change their personality traits.

Ethan was exasperated by her obstinate behaviour. Perceiving her good-natured behaviour and experiencing how ruthless the world has become, he felt the impulse to warn her but held to that thought and restrain himself from getting too involved in her being.

"I just thought you should know, Audrey." He said tenderly melting her enraged heart, leaving her bewildered by his gentle words. They stayed silent until the car parked outside her home. The driver opened the door and they went out of the car. He walked her to the door.

"Thank you for tonight." She said.

"You're welcome, Miss chef. You still owe me to cook your special meal." He teased reminding of her promise to cook for him.

"Just tell me when and where." She razzed.

"I'll call you. Good night, Miss Chef." He saluted as she went in and closed the door. He went back into the car and drove back home.

She walked slowly towards her room not realizing that Ava and Ron were cuddling on the couch watching television. She beamed with glee recalling how her dinner went.

"So how was your date? Are you finally getting a boyfriend so we can double date?" Ava asked brashly.

"What? No! It wasn't a date. I told you it was just dinner, A." She defended.

"Yeah, with that grin on your face, definitely a date." She responded.

"Go back to your movie, and stop being nosey, A." She hurried herself into her room and closed the door avoiding further swamp of questions about her dinner. Taking a long warm bath, changed into a comfortable t-shirt and shorts. She placed her phone on the table to read a book when she noticed 2 unread messages. She opened her messages.

Hey monkchip, I'll be around your office tomorrow. Lunch?

-Hobbit-

Hey dear, I've another event that require catering. Coffee at 10?
