Chapter Twenty-Two: The Octopus Man Strikes

Lunchtime for freshmen and juniors eventually weaved its way into the school day. After lunch would be the Spirit Week activity Makenna read about it in the Spirit Week schedule that morning. She still didn't know what it was going to be. Nobody did. She guessed it would be a surprise. Makenna arrived in the cafeteria before Tracey. She and Jessica bought their lunches and took their trays over to an empty table in the far corner of the cafeteria. They set their trays down, and Jessica sat in front of hers. However, Makenna remained standing. She stood on her tiptoes and searched for Tracey in the huge crowd of freshmen and juniors. However, it was difficult. Jessica soon saw that it looked like Makenna was searching for somebody. She bit into her cheeseburger and chewed.
Then, once she swallowed, she peered up to her friend and asked, "Makenna, who are you looking for?"
"Nobody, Jessica." Makenna lied. However, she continued to stand on her tiptoes and search the crowd of kids.
Jessica chuckled. "You can't fool me, Makenna," she chuckled, "You're searching for Peter Nelson, aren't you?" Makenna shivered at the sound of the name.
Finally, she nodded. "Yeah," she lied again, "Of course, I'm searching for Peter Nelson. Hmm, I don't see him. Oh well." Getting off her tiptoes, she plopped down next to Jessica and faced her lunch tray. Her back was facing the lunch line. She picked up her own cheeseburger and bit into it.

While she and Jessica ate, Jessica showed the fairy a few ballet and surfing videos on her iPhone. Every time somebody wiped out in the surfing videos, they chuckled. However, they were unaware that soon from the lunch line's exit, appeared Tracey. For once, Peter Nelson wasn't with him, thank God. Unfortunately, Tracey didn't see Makenna and Jessica, just like how they didn't see him. He searched the cafeteria and gulped. Merlin's apprentice was too shy and too scared to sit with other kids. He was afraid they were all like Peter Nelson. He hung his head and stumbled over to an empty table, sitting down. He sighed. He wasn't very hungry. School was very strange for him. Tracey was actually starting to feel a little sick again. It was the Octopus Man's spell. The apprentice's life energy was being sucked right out of him. He was very depressed. The color from his face started to drain again. He didn't belong there. He belonged on Merlin's Island.

However, just when Tracey thought his day couldn't get any worse, here came Peter Nelson and Bruce. They approached him from behind. Tracey didn't see them. Propping up his head, he picked up his fork and poked at his salad. Behind him, Peter, who was holding a cup of ice coffee, glanced at Bruce and smirked. Bruce did too. Peter next glanced at Tracey's so-called wingless back and approached it. Stopping at his back, he quickly shot his hand forward and grabbed the back of Tracey's green and purple, tunic-like shirt. Then, he lifted the cup he was holding and dumped the ice-cold coffee down it! Tracey gasped when he felt the cold, and throwing down his fork, he jumped to his feet. Bruce and Pete started to chuckle meanly. Tracey turned to them, and he could feel his wings sticking together with the coffee.
He glared. "Oh, I'm sorry, Ninja Boy." Peter sarcastically spoke, "Was that cold?"
"Want us to call your mommy?" asked Bruce, "You look like you're about to cry." They were still trying to pull Tracey into a fight. However, as usual, he always got himself out of it. "I don't want to fight you, Bruce and Peter," he calmly spoke, "Shoo, please. Leave me alone." Peter growled and turned red. He hated Tracey's personality! Lifting his fist, he tried to punch him, but due to his fast reflexes, the fairy grabbed his wrist and stopped the punch from coming. He squeezed Peter's wrist, and he actually had a really strong grip.

Tracey pushed Peter off of him and into Bruce. Then, through ninja speed, he suddenly appeared at the cafeteria's exit and searched for Makenna. Slipping out of the cafeteria, he hurried down the empty hall and searched for a place where he could hide and air out his wings. While he did this, he clenched his teeth and shivered. He sped up his pace but tripped. Tracey was scared, very scared. He didn't want to get even more scared than he already was. However, Peter Nelson, who had also exited the cafeteria, made sure he stayed scared. He came toward Tracey, with Bruce further behind him, and he cracked his knuckles. He wanted to hurt him. He had had it with him coming between him and Makenna. He was messing up his entire plan. Tracey sensed Peter Nelson behind him. His fairy instincts told him there was danger nearby.

Finally, Tracey lost it! He lost his calmness! He was so sick and tired of being bullied! He hated Peter Nelson and Bruce just as much as they hated him. The ninja-like fairy was given no other choice. His eyes glowed up green, and he cupped his hands. A bright ball of green and purple light appeared in them.
Whirling around, Tracey yelled, "Paintus Completeness!" and the spell flew out of his hands. Peter gasped at the sight of it. The spell hit him smack in the chest and knocked him to the ground!
Behind, Bruce also gasped. "Pete!" he yelled, and he hurried toward his friend. Tracey stood tall, with his fists again clenched, and they glowed up green. He prepared another spell. Bruce soon stopped next to Peter, and he offered him his hand. However, Peter smacked Bruce's hand away and struggled to his feet. Bruce was staring at him, not blinking. "Peter!" he said.
Peter looked himself up and down, and he gasped when he saw that his entire body, every inch of it, was covered in magic, green and purple paint! "AHHH!!" he screamed, "Why, you jerk!" He again gave Tracey the evil death glare.
"How dare you!" Bruce shouted at him, "Think you're so funny, huh, baby?" Tracey's fists soon stopped glowing, and he unclenched them. However, he was still glaring. Bruce was too. Clenching his own fists, he came toward him and added, "Let my fists do the talking. I will avenge my friend."
A few students who were wandering the hallway at their lockers noticed the two boys, and one kid pointed at them, saying, "Hey, look! It's a fight!"
Quickly, a crowd started to surround both Tracey and Bruce. "Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!" the students chanted.

Back in the cafeteria, where Makenna and Jessica were sitting, they heard the ruckus coming from the hallway.
"What in the name of?" Makenna asked, "What's with all the ruckus?"
Before long, a junior girl entered the cafeteria, and she announced to all the students, "Dudes, you've got to see this! It's a fight! It's a fight between Bruce and a new kid!"
"A new kid?" inquired Makenna Delling. Suddenly, she gasped, "Tracey!" Quickly, she jumped to her feet and hurried toward the cafeteria's exit.
Behind, Jessica held her hand out to her and yelled, "Makenna wait!" She too stood up, and she hurried after her friend.

Makenna followed the junior girl into the hallway, and her eyes landed on the crowd of students surrounding Tracey and Bruce.
They were still chanting, "Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!" It was very loud in the hallway.
Makenna scurried down it, toward the crowd, and behind her was Jessica. "Makenna!" she again yelled. She and Makenna had a policy! If there was ever a fight in school, they would just walk away! They wouldn't go toward it! However, Makenna was. She headed toward it because she knew one of the people fighting was her friend.

She soon reached the crowd, and she pushed through it, saying,
"Excuse me, excuse me." She pushed kids aside and tried to jump out of the crowd and into the fray, but a couple of other kids got in her way. Makenna grabbed their shoulders and yelled, "Tracey!" Tracey and Bruce were still facing one another, and Peter was still on the ground covered in paint. Bruce aimed a punch at him, but Tracey was too fast.
He dodged the punch, and a few students gasped when they saw this. "Did you see how fast he was?" asked a freshman girl. Bruce faced Tracey, and he growled. Tracey remained calm throughout the entire scene.
He told Bruce, "I'd keep your distance if I was you, Bruce. You don't want to get into it with me." He was telling the truth too. Tracey was Tracey, Merlin the Great's apprentice!
"Shut your yap and fight!" Bruce shouted.
He aimed another punch at Tracey, but the ninja front-flipped over him. "Whoa!" yelled a few other kids, "This guy's good!"
Tracey landed behind Bruce, and he told him, "I'd prefer not to." Bruce lost his patience! He aimed numerous, quick punches at the young fairy, but he dodged every single one of them! He was amazing! However, Bruce did not give up. He continued to aim punches. Makenna finally managed to push her way through the crowd of kids. She leaped out of it and into the fray.
From the ground, Peter Nelson saw her. "Makenna!" Makenna ignored him.
She again yelled, "Tracey!" and she hurried toward the two boys.
Jessica had also managed to push her way through the crowd, and her eyes widened at the sight of Makenna running into the fray. "Makenna, no!" she shouted. Makenna continued toward the fighting boys. Bruce lifted his fist to aim another punch, but just before he could strike, suddenly, Makenna Delling appeared between them from out of nowhere! Bruce gasped and immediately stopped his punch so he wouldn't hit her instead of Tracey.
At the sight of Makenna, Tracey's eyes widened. "Makenna!" he yelled.
"STOP IT!!" Makenna shouted at them, and she glanced at both boys, "BOTH OF YOU!"
"Ooohhs," came from the crowd of kids, and Bruce and Tracey immediately stopped glaring at one another.
They focused their attention on Makenna. "Look," she sternly said, "I don't know what stupid thing caused this fight, but I forbid you guys to act with aggression! You will not send each other to the hospital! Not when I'm here at least! Bruce, go away! Leave Tracey alone!" Bruce glared at her, but because she was a girl, he refused to hit her. He backed away from Tracey and pressed up against some lockers.

Everything started to calm down. The crowd dispersed, and people returned to lunch. Makenna, Tracey, Jessica, Bruce, and Peter were left alone in the hallway. Peter Nelson soon got up, and the stench of paint lifted from his body.
Jessica soon approached him, and she asked, "What happened to you, Pete?"
"He did this to me!" Peter shouted, and he pointed at Tracey, "I don't know how he did it, but he did it!" Tracey and Makenna were paying him no attention. They had turned their bodies to each other, and the second they caught each other's eyes, the fairies cracked small grins.
"Tracey!" Makenna called.
"Makenna!" Tracey choked back. His eyes again swelled with tears, and he hurried toward her. With Makenna finally back on set, he felt a lot safer. It helped him understand that he wasn't the only fairy there. Makenna hurried toward him, and the two friends came closer and closer to one another, although Tracey was still tripping a lot. Soon, they approached each other, and they immediately pulled themselves into a hug. Peter Nelson groaned and turned red again. He tightly clenched his right fist and watched the sickening reunion.
While they hugged, Makenna told Tracey, "I've been worried about you all morning, Tracey," in a soft voice, "Don't scare me like that again." With every second that passed, Peter turned redder and redder. Bruce took his shoulder and tried to pull him back, but Peter broke free from his grasp.
Jessica soon approached the hugging fairies, and like Natalie, she blushed at the sight of Tracey. "Oh, my God!" she whispered under her breath, "Ooh la, la." Peter Nelson soon pushed by her, and he grabbed Makenna by the arm.
Quickly, he pulled her away from Tracey and locked his arms around her. "Peter Nelson!" Makenna gasped, and she herself blushed, "You got a new look!" She chuckled flirtingly and peered down on his arms. No way, Peter Nelson was holding her! Makenna had no clue about the things he had done to Tracey. To her, he was still fun-loving, sweet Peter.
Tracey, who wasn't exactly pleased with the fact that Peter had pulled Makenna away from him and by the way he was holding her, glared and said, "Release her," to him.
"No, it's all right, Tracey." Makenna told him, "Peter and I are a couple."
"That's right," said Peter, and he started to pull her away, "You best go find your own girl. Bruce." With his head, he gestured at Bruce and then at Tracey. His friend nodded and took his back off the lockers.

Jessica followed Peter and Makenna back into the lunchroom, so now, only Tracey and Bruce were left in the hallway. Tracey growled from where he stood. "That jerk," he mumbled, "Makenna doesn't deserve to be harassed like that. She's only fourteen years old!"
"You are so right, Ninja Boy." Bruce snickered at him. He approached Tracey, and he glanced at him. Bruce, who had his arms crossed, stopped next to him and again repeated, "You are so right." Then, he cleared his throat, "I'll go talk to him. But before I do, here's a little gift he's been saving for you that he wants me to deliver to you."
"Gift?" Tracey asked, and a question mark appeared above his head, "What gift?" Bruce crept closer to him, with his arms still crossed, and for a moment, there was silence and no movement between the two boys. Then, Bruce struck. He uncrossed his arms, clenched his fist, and punched Tracey very hard, in the arm!
Yelling in pain, the young fairy grabbed his arm and collapsed onto the ground. "OW!" he cried out, and he curled into a ball, tightly shutting his eyes.
Bruce, who was shaking out his fist, next, like Peter, stomped down on his hand and said, "I can assure you, Mr. Tracey Know-It-All, if you attack my friend like that again, then so help myself I will give you something even worse than a punch!" He took his shoe away from Tracey's hand, turned on his heel, and left him.

Tracey remained on the ground. Now that he was alone, he was able to cry. Tears of pain streamed down his cheeks, and he could feel something wet under the hand that was clutching his arm. Tracey soon struggled to his knees, and he tried to stand but yelled and fell again. He was in so much pain. Tracey felt like he was dying. He knew he was dying. However, he tried his best to stay strong. Without taking his hand away from his arm, Tracey struggled to his feet, but the second he stood, he became very dizzy. He took a few steps forward but fell against the lockers. Tracey knew his arm was bleeding. He could feel it. However, he didn't dare look down at the bruise. He had a pretty good feeling Bruce had broken his arm. Tracey was so glad school was almost over. When he got back to Seabrook Island, he was going to fly straight back to where he belonged, Merlin's Island. He refused to come back to human school.

Tracey didn't return to the lunchroom. During the rest of the lunch period, he just hung out in the hallway and silently cried to himself.

Soon, lunch ended. Right after lunch, freshmen and juniors started toward the auditorium for the activity while sophomores and seniors piled into the cafeteria next.
Makenna Delling soon exited the cafeteria, alone, and she waved at Tracey, "Tracey, come on!" Tracey heard her.
His eyes landed on his friend, and he waved back at her, "Give me a second okay, Makenna?"
"I'll just wait here." Makenna said back, and she stood in front of the girl's bathroom. While she wasn't looking, Tracey didn't waste any time. He grabbed hold of his shirt sleeve and pulled it down and over his wound. Then, grabbing his arm again, he sauntered over to Makenna and joined her.
Nodding, he said, "All right, Makenna, I'm ready. Lead the way to wherever we're going." Makenna smiled and took his uninjured arm. Then, she pulled him forward and toward the auditorium.

The auditorium was located at the other wing of Makenna's school. Despite how many kids went to it, it was a fairly large auditorium. Excited teenagers piled into it, and many sat with their friends and chatted about whatever the activity was going to be. Makenna and Tracey soon stepped into it, and Makenna jumped up and down with excitement. Since all the kids were talking, it was loud in the auditorium. Makenna pulled Tracey down the aisle, toward the third row, and he flinched. He was very confused. He had no idea what was going on.
His eyes landed on the auditorium's stage, and while Makenna continued to drag him, he whispered, "Ow!" for his arm was still hurting, and he couldn't grab it. However, he hid the pain behind a feeble smile, although deep inside, he was screaming. His smile quickly died though the closer he and Makenna got to the stage. "Makenna," Tracey asked the young Metamorphic Fairy, "what are we doing in here? What is this place?"
He and Makenna sat down in the third row of the auditorium, and Makenna explained, "Trace, this is the school auditorium." She pointed at the stage, "A Spirit Week activity is going to take place up there soon. Right now, they only want freshmen and juniors to pile into here."
"What about sophomores and seniors?" Tracey asked.
"They've already had the activity. They had it while we were at lunch. Now we're having it, and they're in lunch. After this, we'll go to 7th and 8th Periods and then homeward bound."
"What's the activity?"
Makenna shrugged. "I'm not sure, Trace," she admitted, "I'm not sure."
"Hey, Makenna," a sudden voice spoke from out of nowhere, "May I sit here?" Makenna looked up. She gasped. It was Peter Nelson! He was hovering over her, and he had changed into his gym clothes. He had cleaned up.
At the sight of him, Makenna instantly blushed. "Sure, Pete," said she, and she patted the empty seat on her right side, "Sure."
"Thanks," said Peter. He sat down and glanced at Tracey, slightly glaring. Then, he wrapped his arm around Makenna's shoulders and pulled her close to him.
Makenna blushed harder, and she grinned. "What's wrong, Tracey?" Peter asked the ninja-like fairy. Tracey had a suspicious face glued on, and he seemed to stare at him. Tension built up in his body. He didn't like this. He didn't like the fact that Peter had pulled Makenna very close to him.
Scoffing, he said, "Nothing, Pete," and closed his eyes, "I'm just fine."

"So, what do you think the activity is, Pete?" Makenna asked hunky Peter.
"Hopefully something fun," he replied, "Like perhaps maybe a rap battle. Or maybe even better, a game show."
Suddenly, the lights in the auditorium dimmed, and peering up at them, Tracey asked, "Huh?" He shivered. It was dark. It was dark in the auditorium. As you should know, Tracey didn't like the dark. He started to sweat, and nudging Makenna, he anxiously whispered, "Makenna," in her ear, "it's dark."
"Oh right." Makenna spoke. She just remembered Tracey's fear of the dark. "It's all right, Trace," she added, "The stage lights should come on soon."
Peter overheard her. "Lights?" he asked. He sneered at Tracey, "Don't tell me, Tracey that you, a seventeen-year-old, are afraid of the dark." Tracey, hurt by the statement, lowered his head and clutched his throbbing arm. He had to admit, he was nothing but a big chicken. Peter added, "That's BS. Total BS. Why don't you just step outside where it's light and leave us alone, Ninja Boy? BS. You're a baby, being scared of the dark."
"Peter." Makenna whispered. She pushed his chest back, "Watch your language. He's new. Accept people for who they are, Peter but don't tease him. That's just downright rude." Peter Nelson wanted Tracey to leave him and Makenna, but he didn't.
Thanking Makenna in his brain for helping him, he simply crossed his arms and said in his calm voice, "Your method of getting rid of me, Peter is failing. I'll leave when I feel like it. I'll be honest, I am edgy around the dark, but as Makenna said, that doesn't give you the right to make fun of me." Peter glared. How was Tracey so calm?
Makenna took Peter's arm away from her shoulders, and she leaned toward Merlin's apprentice, gesturing Peter away, "Peter, I think it's best you just leave us be right now. I believe there's a better place for you to sit up at the higher rows. If you wish to stay though, then you better not pick on Tracey again."
Peter huffed and blushed. "Fine," he growled, and he stood up, "I'll leave you two lovebirds alone, but I better not see you hugging again!"
"Just get out of our sight." Tracey snarled at him, "And learn how to be a gentleman okay?"
Peter's face eased, and he put on his nice act again. "See you later, Makenna," he said, and he waved goodbye. Then, turning on his heel, he left the two fairies and sat with his friends on one of the auditorium's higher rows.

Where Makenna and Tracey were sitting, they gave each other a fist pound.
"Thank you, Makenna." Tracey politely spoke to Miss Delling, "That meant a lot to me."
"No problem, Trace," she whispered, "Peter is handsome yes, but he tends to have some very strong opinions about other people. I'm sorry if he made you feel bad. I'm sorry I caved in on you, but I found it totally unnecessary for him to tease you about your fear of the dark. It was like when somebody teased me about my fear of nuts. Look!" She pointed down at the auditorium's stage, "The activity is beginning!" Makenna was right. Sure enough, the stage lights came on, and Tracey sighed with relief. Lights. Lights were a miracle.
He again sighed, "Lights," and closed his eyes, "Thank the world for lights." Makenna patted his hand and started to shake with excitement. Tracey soon opened his eyes, and both he and Makenna peered down on the stage.

Mrs. Judith Barsley, head of Spirit Week, had appeared on it. She was a pretty, middle-aged woman who had long, dark hair, deep brown eyes, and a tan complexion. Over her eyes, she wore a pair of red glasses.
She opened her arms and announced, "Attention, freshmen and juniors, in case you don't know, my name is Mrs. Judith Barsley, and I'm head of this year's Spirit Week!" There was a round of applause. Tracey was the only one who wasn't applauding. He was totally bewildered. After a bit, the students stopped applauding, and everything became quiet in the auditorium. Mrs. Judith Barsley continued, "I sure hope you've all enjoyed Spirit Week so far. I know I have. We have a very exciting activity for you today. This is something new the Spirit Week crew came up with this year." Right after she said that, another faculty member, Ms. Faye Josephine, and four students, two girls and two boys, appeared on either side of her. All six people made up the Spirit Week crew. There was another round of applause, and the members waved out to the audience. Then, when the applause stopped again, Mrs. Judith Barsley announced to the students, "Without further ado, we present to you..." In excitement, the students slid to the edge of their seats. Mrs. Barsley extended her arms and finished with, "This school's first-ever, teacher lip sync battle!"

"Teacher lip sync battle?" asked a few bewildered students in the crowd, "What's a teacher lip sync battle?"
"Ah," spoke Mrs. Judith Barsley, "I'm glad you asked. Ms. Josephine," She nudged Ms. Josephine, "would you do the honors?"
"Certainly," she replied. She stepped in front of the Spirit Week crew and explained to the audience, "A teacher lip sync battle is an annual contest when fellow teachers lip sync to their favorite songs, and you guys vote on who has the best lip sync. Don't choose your favorite teacher though, okay? Vote on the teacher who impersonates the singer and song best. Sound like fun?"
"Yeah!" the students announced.
Makenna Delling's eyes sparkled. "Oh wow!" she said, and she put her hands together, "I've never seen a teacher lip sync battle before! Tracey, this is going to be fun! You love music! It's perfect!" Tracey, even though this was his first time at human school, was actually starting to get into the school spirit.
He too was getting a little excited, "I wonder who the competitors are going to be." On stage, every member of the Spirit Week crew was grinning.
Mrs. Judith Barsely soon asked the students, "Are we ready to begin?!" The students cheered, so she guessed they were. "All right!" she added, and she, Ms. Josephine, and the students moved off to the side, "May we present to you, our first competitor!" She gestured at the other end of the stage, "Mr. Fernando Gheesling!"

At the sound of Mr. Gheesling's name, Tracey gasped.
"Mr. Gheesling?" he asked, and he squeezed his injured arm tighter. Down on stage, Mr. Gheesling jogged onto it. The students laughed when they saw him. Mr. Gheesling looked absolutely hilarious! He was dressed in blue jeans, black sneakers, a black shirt, and a gray, hooded jacket that was unzipped. He wore the hood of the jacket over his head, and on top of it, he wore a backward baseball cap. He was dressed like Justin Bieber.
Makenna, who was one of the students laughing, asked herself in her head, Is he Justin Bieber? Mr. Fernando Gheesling was. Yep, he was Justin Bieber. He waved out to the kids and stopped in the center of the stage. While he was standing, he waved his arms and stretched out his body. He was getting into character. Tracey was still keeping a straight face, but you could see that a smile was slowly starting to take over.

After Mr. Gheesling finished stretching out his body, he waved at the new student, and he waved back. Then, he held his hand up to the ceiling and announced, "Hit it!" Music started to play.
Immediately, all the students recognized the song, and a great wave of laughter engulfed the entire auditorium. "Oh, gosh!" Makenna laughed, "Not this song!"
She covered her mouth, and Tracey said, "Oh gosh," right after her, for he too had heard this song before. I mean, who hasn't? It was "Baby" by Justin Bieber.

Down on stage, Mr. Gheesling held a microphone that was turned off to his lips and started to lip-sync to "Baby's" lyrics. He looked absolutely ridiculous but at the same time, hilarious. The entire auditorium was engulfed with laughter. He had some serious guts to lip sync "Baby." As the song continued, Mr. Gheesling started to dance. He crouched down, pointed his free index finger out to the teenagers, and crept toward them when the ridiculous chorus came around. Makenna was laughing so hard, she was crying. Mr. Gheesling acted out a perfect Justin Bieber. It was unbelievable, but Tracey was also laughing. He buried his face in his hands and shook his head. Down on stage, Mr. Gheesling was so embarrassed, – his entire face was red – but he continued into the next verse. He danced like a maniac. He crept over to Mrs. Judith Barsley, who was also laughing, and grabbed her hand with his free one. Then, he pulled her onto the stage and started to dance in front of her.

After this, Mr. Gheesling had had enough. He dropped the microphone to the ground and pushed by Mrs. Barsely. Quickly, he hurried off stage, too embarrassed to show his face to the students, and vanished. "Baby" continued to play from the stereo. Everybody was still laughing like crazy.
Mrs. Judith Barsely picked up the microphone and pointed her hand in the direction Mr. Gheesling had disappeared in, "And that was Mr. Fernando Gheesling!"
There was a huge round of applause, and students whistled and continued to laugh. "You rock, Mr. Gheesling!" a few students chanted.

Where Makenna and Tracey were sitting, Tracey too was clapping and smiling, but unfortunately, his good mood was soon murdered. Suddenly, the Octopus Man's spell kicked into action again. Tracey gasped, and closing his eyes, he lowered his head and grabbed it, for he had acquired another massive headache. Makenna noticed his distress and immediately lost her smile.
She asked, "Tracey, what's wrong?" and she reached for his arm, but Tracey flinched away.
He tightly clenched his teeth and whispered, "Makenna, it's my head! My headache's come back! Why has it come back?!" A few students sitting behind and in front of them heard him, and they slowly focused their attention on the two fairies. On stage, Mrs. Barsely carried on with the teacher lip sync battle.
She lifted her hand and announced, "Next up, give a warm round of applause for Mrs. Rita!" This time, all the students, except Makenna, Tracey, and the kids watching them applauded. Tracey's headache was getting worse and worse by the second. Finally, he shook it and whispered, "I can't take it anymore!" He quickly stood up, and Makenna gasped, "I'm going! I'm going to the ocean! The ocean is where I belong!"
"Tracey," murmured Makenna. Clenching her teeth, she succeeded in taking his arm this time, "Sit down." Other students, including Jimmy Carter and his gang members and Peter Nelson, had now focused their attention on Makenna and Tracey. Tracey could feel his life being sucked right out of him, but he felt that if he went to the water or a least some source of water, he would be able to gain that life energy back. He had an urge for water.
In his mind, he could hear the Octopus Man, "Come, young Tracey. Come to the ocean." Tracey's wings ferociously shook in his shirt. He could feel them trying to pop out and lift him into the air.

Suddenly, from out of nowhere, like what had happened on Merlin's Island, he collapsed!
Makenna, who had also now stood up, caught him. "Ah! Tracey!" she whispered. Now, this collapse grabbed people's attention. Suddenly, from all over the auditorium, students stood up and pointed down to the two fairies. "Somebody just collapsed!" yelled a freshman girl. On stage, Mrs. Barsely and the Spirit Week crew knew something was going on, but they kept the teacher lip sync battle moving. The Geometry teacher, Mrs. Rita had appeared on stage, and she was dressed up like Taylor Swift. Her impersonation of Swift was good, but it wasn't as good as Mr. Gheesling's impersonation of Bieber. He had appeared at the base of the stage, because he saw Tracey collapse, and he hurried toward him. Tracey felt like his forehead was on fire.
Through telepathy, he yelled, "Leave me alone!" to the sirens.
"I'm right here, Tracey." Makenna told him, "I'm right here. Shh." She grabbed hold of his chin and peered down on his face. Peter Nelson, who was one of the students that had stood up, crept toward them, and he had a suspicious face glued on. The photo his father had shown him of the so-called fairy he saw seven years ago was taped onto his brain, and he couldn't help but feel like the colors he saw in that photo were identical to the colors Tracey wore.

Mr. Gheesling soon approached Merlin's apprentice, as did the nurse, Mrs. Edith, and principal, Dr. Medford. The mark of the Octopus Man again flashed on Tracey's uninjured arm. Quickly, Mr. Gheesling pulled him away from Makenna and picked him up. Since Tracey was still a growing fairy, he had not yet reached his adult height and was fairly light, so it wasn't hard to carry him. Keep in mind, fairies age slower than humans. Makenna was freaking out. What on earth was wrong with Merlin's apprentice?! She thought he was better! Mr. Gheesling, Mrs. Edith, and Dr. Medford tried to have her stay behind in the auditorium, but Makenna refused. No way was she just going to leave her friend! What if they found out his secret?! If they did find out his secret, then she was going to give hers away too! Then she and Tracey could be in the laboratory together. She followed Mr. Gheesling, Mrs. Edith, and Dr. Medford up the stairs of the auditorium.
In her mind, Makenna begged, "Selene, Selene please. What should I do?" She waited for Selene to answer. She didn't. Makenna felt stupid. How could one communicate through telepathy? The teacher lip sync battle carried on. Mrs. Edith was lip-syncing the words to "Blank Space" by Taylor Swift, but half the auditorium wasn't even paying attention to her. They were paying attention to Mr. Gheesling, Mrs. Edith, Dr. Medford, Makenna and Tracey instead. While they were hurrying toward the exit, they passed Peter Nelson, and he studied Tracey carefully. He found out. Peter Nelson was the first one who found out Tracey's secret. His eyes landed on the mark of the Octopus Man flashing on his arm, and the photo his father had grabbed clicked in his brain again. His eyes barely caught the tip of Tracey's left wing.
