hunting scene (2011)

Date: August 2, 2011

Knight (Tory): (announcing) Okay, guys. We're gonna head out to get some food.

Ruby (Pawn): *runs excitedly to Knight and Dame* Ooh! Ooh! Can I go too?? :D

Aries (Pawn): Yeah yeah! Me too!! :D

Dame (Alexa): E- what?? You guys wanna go with us??

Ruby: Yeah!! I wanna learn how to hunt too! I love learning sword stuff from you two!

Ari: What she said.

Dame (Alexa): Ehe- Okay?? Sure, if you're really that eager. :0

Ruby and Ari: YAAAYY!!

Dame: But Ari, are you sure you're gonna handle that without your arms?

Ari: Ah, don't worry. I can use my legs just fine! Tory can verify.

Knight: (to Dame) He actually is very skilled with his legs. It's like second nature to him.

Dame: Huh. Alright, if you say so. :0

Ari: YESSSS!!

[In the forest]

Knight: Alright, kids. Do you see the bird on the tree there?

Ruby: Yes!

Ari: Mhm!

Knight: Yeah so, what you gotta do is aim for the prey with the bow and arrow. The bow and arrow weapon is good for when you want to hit a target, in this case prey like this bird, but from a distance.

Dame: It's also pretty good for stealthy attacks, like when you hide in a bush and aim the arrow at an enemy's back while they're not looking and PEW!!

*Ruby and Ari chuckle*

Knight: Now, let me demonstrate.

Knight aims for the bird on the tree and shoots. The bird falls flat to the ground.

Ruby and Ari: WOOOO!!!

Ari: OH MY GOD, THAT WAS AWESOME!! :D

Ruby: YEAH, IT WAS AMAZING!! *flutters her arms*

Knight: (flattered) Haha, thanks guys!

Dame: Hey, he's not the only one who can do that! Watch. >:P

Dame gasps as she sees a big bird on another tree. She aims, shoots and...

misses...

...twice.

Dame: A-

*Knight, Ruby and Ari laugh*

Dame: Oh c'mon! Third time's the charm! >:0

The bird thought it could escape the arrow from impaling it...

Well...

*THUD!*

*Knight, Ruby and Ari cheer*

Dame: *GASP* I DID IT! :D YEAHAHA!! (to the group) What do you think about that?? >:D

Ruby and Ari: AMAZING!!!

Knight: Pretty good ...for an amateur.

Dame: WHAT?!

Knight: Chill, chill! I was just playing with ya! *laughs*

Dame: Hmph. *smiles lopsidedly*

*Knight puts the carcasses into their basket*

Knight: Alright, now it's your turn to shoot. Let's start with you first, Ruby.

Ruby: Okay! :D

Knight: How about we shoot... that one. *points to bird on tree* That looks pretty harmless.

Ruby: Mkay.

Knight: So, here's the bow and arrow. But first what you gotta do, is stand like sideways to the prey.

Ruby: Like this?

Knight: Yes, perfect. Now, hold the bow with your left arm, and vertical like I did. Then place the arrow on this gap on the bow and nock the end of the arrow onto the string here.

Ruby: Mmm, okay, got it!

Knight: Nice! The end of the arrow should rest on your fingers when you pull the string.

Ruby: Mm... like this?

Dame: Nono. Hold on... *demonstrates the holding position to her* Like that.

Ruby: Ah, okay!

Dame: Actually- Wait, you should wear gloves for this because pulling the string could actually hurt your fingers for beginners. Here. *gives gloves to Ruby*

Ruby: Okay, thanks! :)

Knight: Alright. Ruby, do you remember what I taught you?

Ruby: Yes!

Knight: Great! Okay, so take aim by pointing the arrow at the prey. It's better to close one eye while you aim so you can focus on the target better. Pull the string and...

*PEW! THUD!*

Ruby: *GASP* I DID IT! :D

Dame: AYYY! Nice shot, Ruby! :D *pats her head*

Ari: That was great, Ruby!!

Knight: (bright) OH MY GOSH, RUBY, THAT WAS-- *clears throat* (serious tone) I mean, that was excellent, Ruby.

Ruby: (flattered) Hehe, thank you! ^^

-|||-

Dame: *puts carcass into basket and whistles a high tone* Pretty good for a first try, Ruby! Alright, now it's your turn, Ari!

Knight: Yes, but since you don't have arms, you'll have to use the crossbow. *gives Ari a modified crossbow* Normally crossbows are more complicated than this, but this'll do.

Ari: Oooh!

Knight: Alright, even if the crossbow has a different look than the bow and arrow, it pretty much has the same steps. Load the arrow onto the barrel groove, secure it, aim at the target and pull the trigger-

Dame: Woah, woah! Slow down, Tory! Not too much at once, please!

Knight: Ah, don't worry, he picks up things pretty quickly. (to Aries) Alright, got it?

Ari: Got it!

Ari holds the crossbow with his foot and pulls the trigger with his toe. The bird rests on a branch situated in a high altitude—

*THUD!*

*Knight, Dame and Ruby cheer*

Ari: Hahah! This is pretty fun, actually!

Dame: Yeah, but don't go nuts with it. Or at least not until you're in the battlefield—

Knight: ALEXA!! >:0

Dame: What?? No, but seriously, you gotta make your every move thought out and precise. That's what makes a good archer.

Ari: Okay, thank you, Alexa! :D

Dame: No problem, boy! *pats his head*

-|||-

Knight: Whew, okay, I think that should be enough for the next few days. Shall we go now, kids?

Ruby and Ari: Yes!

Ruby: Ooh, ooh! I wanna carry the basket! *heaves while trying to carry the basket*

Ari: Hahaha, let me carry it for you. You can take the smaller basket there.

Ruby: Okay!

Dame: (whispering to Knight) Oh my gosh, these two are SO precious...

Knight: I knoww, right??

Dame: *briefly looks confused at him but then smiles*
