> Closing Note <

Let's make our own destiny.

What does that mean?

Does it mean setting off on any wild pursuit our heart desires at any given moment? No caution, no restraint?

Certainly not. But it does mean pursuing our dreams.

The important question to ask ourselves is: what are those dreams?

Is our dream to 'fit in' with the world so that everyone 'likes' us? To gain fame and fortune so that we feel 'loved'? To become someone people admire or follow simply to satisfy our lack of self worth?

Or, do we dream to spread love? To show others their worth? To leave an impact that will cumulate with the impacts of thousands of others into a world-altering force?

Is that how we dream?

There's nothing wrong with having aspirations for your future. I have plenty of my own. And there's no shame in striving towards them.

But never let acceptance by society, other people, or popular culture define how you live your life. You only get one. What a shame it would be if you wasted it trying to be someone else!

I believe that all people, being unique and one of a kind, have something to do for this world, whatever it may be. Nothing is bigger or smaller than something else.

Even still, I don't believe in fate. I believe we have the power to alter our own 'destiny', so to speak, with the choices, morally and practically, that we make.

It's much less about what we want to be and far more about who we want to be. How does that affect what stars we choose to chase? Do we want to look back at the end of our lives and wish we had danced in another galaxy?

Despite the hopelessness that bogs us down and traps us in the rut of failure after failure to find meaning and purpose in this flighty world, we, humanity, will always find a way to soar again.

We don't know it necessarily. Certainly in that moment we don't know it. But it's in our nature. We're meant to dream.

We're meant to chase stars.

Independently but together. For ourselves and for each other. Because of our lives, our hearts, and because of the future of this earth.

If you closed your eyes right now and pictured tomorrow, what would you want it to look like?

Now what can you do to make that happen?

If we all choose to wait for someone else to take action, we'll never get anywhere. Change isn't easy. I'm not in any way saying we can flip a switch and turn the whole world around. Change takes time, patience, dedication, maybe generations of people willing to fight for what they believe in, but it starts somewhere.

Why can't it start here?

We're already chasing stars. And that's half the battle.
