Four

Sitting in 11th grade AP World History was as boring as it's gonna get. But hey, I like the class. "And that concludes today's lesson. Don't forget, your Roarin' 1920's projects are due on Friday! Hanna, a word please?"

The other students shuffled out of the room, as I walked up to Mrs. Fairchild's desk. "You're failing my class. You've got 34.5%. This project will undoubtedly bump it up to 60%, but even then you're still failing. Is everything okay at home?" She looks up at me, and folds her hands together. "Yeah, everything is fine. Just kinda do everything on my own at home." I turn to leave, but her hand on mine stops me. She takes her glasses off, and comes around and sits on the edge of her desk.

"What do you mean?"

I want to tell her. I really do. But I just can't.

"Dad works late, Mom's never home." I pull my sleeve further down my arm

"I'm gonna be late, can I go?"

Mrs. Fairchild nods and writes me a late pass. I take it, as I jog to my next class.

The final bell rings, as I make my way down the hallway, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and accidentally ran into the new girl, causing her to drop her books. "Oh my god! I'm so sorry I wasn't watching where I was going." I quickly gathered her things before looking her in the eye. Oh wow. She's beautiful.
"I'm Kia by the way. You are?"
I hesitated for a second.
"H-Hanna." Kia smiles at me, taking her books from my hands.
"Thanks for helping." She got up to her feet before running towards her class. I felt something in my chest I haven't felt in a long time.
