Chapter 24 ~ A Traitor Among Us

Some of you asked for her picture so here she is. I wanted to thank you all for your support, it really means a lot for me :) Also, I'll soon start editing the whole story and add titles to the chapters (I should have done this long ago xD). I hope you'll enjoy this chapter ^^

"No, no, no. Don't do it this way, it'll only tire you out faster, and in a fight, one of the most important thing is the endurance. Also, it's not your wrist that you should be throwing during a punch, it's your elbow." Jason was sitting just next to the boxing ring, giving advice to Kyle who was (desperately) trying to win a friendly fight against Roy. The redhead man was grinning from ear to ear.

"Hey, Jaybird, why don't you try to show him? Oh wait, I know. You don't want me to kick your ass again," he said amused and playfully.

Jason snorted and smirked, "Watch out Harper, you could regret it."

Roy arrogantly lifted his fists and put himself in a fighting stance, "try me." Kyle laughed light heartedly whereas Jason simply lifted an eyebrow in his best friend's direction, still smirking widely. The man then shook his head and laughed lightly. After that, they kept on training Kyle. The young man was giving his best in his training, listening carefully to what Jason and Roy were telling him. He was progressing really quickly, and he knew it. His blows were more efficient every days. He knew exactly where to hit to either simply injure his opponent or to kill him. Jason and Roy's techniques were quite similar. Both aggressive and brutal.

Jason had also taught him how to use a gun properly since he had noticed the young man wasn't extremely precise when it came to shooting. Once again, Kyle had revealed himself to be a good student.

At the end of their session, Kyle was beyond exhausted but proud of himself. He had won a match against Roy. As they walked away from the boxing ring, the older man slapped his shoulder blade playfully. "Good work," and with a smirk, he whispered, "but be careful, I won't be this kind next time." Kyle shoved him away with a smile and raised an eyebrow, provoking a small laugh to escape from Roy's mouth.

"Will you stop your childishness?" Jason asked, arms crossed but with a small smile across his lips.

Roy rolled his eyes and flipped the man off, "shut up Jay, will you?" He then walked past his best friend and reached for the fridge, grabbed a bottle of beer and let himself flop on the living room's couch. He lazily put his feet on the table and turned on the television. Jason shook his head in amusement but pushed Roy's feet away from the table.

"Where are your manners, Harper?"

Roy snorted loudly. "You're not a funny man, y'know that?"

"That's why you love me, asshole."

"You're damn right, Jaybird." Jason rolled his eyes. He walked towards his bedroom when all of a sudden, the bell rung. "Were you expecting someone?"

Jason glanced at Kyle who immediately shook his head. "Nope."

The tall man opened the door and was quite surprised to see his big brother standing just in front of him, soaked to the bone. "Dickie! What are you doing here? Come in, you're all wet." He walked inside the apartment and a black dog followed him, happily waving its tail. "Uh... Is he yours?"

Dick sighed as he removed his jacket and let it hang on the coat rack. "No... Yes... I don't know." Kyle, Roy and Jason evenly arched an eyebrow as they stared at the man. "I'm actually here because of her. I'll explain everything but could you give me a towel first?" Just as he said that, a large drop of water ran from his jet black hair to his face. Kyle jumped on his feet and brought one from the bathroom. He tossed it at the man before he sat back just next to Roy.

Jason's eyes opened widely "you should have brought one for the dog t-". Before he even got the chance to finish his sentence, the animal shook its fur, sending water all around the living room. Jason glared at the dog who stared at him with joyful eyes, happy to finally be safe from the pouring rain. "I hope you're proud of yourself," the man said grumpily but the dog only tilted its head on the side.

"He's adorable," Kyle smiled.

""yeah, she is," Dick corrected with a smile as he dried his hair with the towel.

Jason shook his head and gently patted the dog's head. "So, can you explain now?" Dick told them the whole story about how he helped Jason's gang in Blüdhaven (he didn't neglected to say he hadn't been noticed by any of his henchmen) and he told them about how he found the dog behind a dumpster.

Once he was done, Jason stared at the sound asleep dog on his carpet. "And are you going to keep her?"

"I don't think so... I wanted to give her to Damian but he already has Titus. I keep on going back and forth from Gotham to Blüdhaven... She needs a real home."

"Hold on... So you brought her here because you were hoping that I would keep her?" Jason stared at his brother, his arms crossed over his chest. Roy and Kyle exchanged a glance. Dick only nodded at his brother. The latter angrily shook his head and coldly said "the answer is no. I can't keep a dog here and I don't have time to take care of her."

"Come on Jay!"

"No."

"Please..."

"No!"

"I'll keep her." A silence fell in the room as everyone turned in Kyle's direction. The young man cleared his throat and repeated himself.

"It's out of question. I don't want a dog here."

"Why not? The place is big enough and we could use some company."

"I said no."

"I don't care Jason," Kyle suddenly exploded as he jumped on his feet.

"What did you just say?" Jason coldly said, taking a threatening step towards the young man. Dick immediately put himself between both the men and Roy pushed Jason away, gently but firmly. The black dog lifter her head, having been awaken by the sudden noise all around her.

"Drop it, okay?" Dick declared "I'll find her another home. No need to fight for this."

"No Dick, her home is here. I'm paying half of the rent, I can decide whether she stays or not. And I say that she stays." Jason clenched his fist and stared at Kyle, his emerald green eyes shining in annoyance. Kyle didn't flinched under Jason's stare but, on the contrary, stared back.

"The tension in this room is absolutely amazing, but that would be great if you guys don't start fighting. I don't want to have to clean up the place afterward," Roy declared, desperately trying to ease the tension between both men, "and between us, a dog could be good. You fight like an old couple." Jason unclenched his fist and shook his head before he moved away from Roy, still staring at Kyle.

"Do whatever you want, I don't give a shit." Jason then stormed out of the living room to get into his own bedroom and slammed the door behind him.

Roy let out a loud sigh, "well..." Kyle sighed as well and approached near the dog.

"What's her name?"

"She doesn't really have one yet... But I called her Nala until now."

Kyle raised an amused eyebrow, "like in the Lion King?" Dick nodded with a smile. He then crouched next to Nala and removed the leash from her bright red leather collar. She wagged her tail happily and rose back on her paws to jump on Dick. The man gently stroked her head.

"She's now yours Kyle," Dick said with a smile, still patting Nala's head, "you'll just have to take her to the vet for a check-up because she's limping and for her vaccines." The young man nodded as he took the leash from Dick's hand. All of a sudden, Jason's door burst open and the man walked out of it, fully geared in his Red Hood suit.

"I got an emergency," he said coldly before he sneaked out of the apartment by the window.

Dick was about to follow his little brother when Roy stopped him, "I don't think it's a good idea to piss him off more than he already his. I know him, he'll calm down on his own."

Still looking at the window, Dick sighed, "yeah, you're right..."

"What's the emergency, Aaron?" Hood asked as he entered the large meeting room in the headquarters. Inside, there was only Aaron and Jill. He quickly noticed Jill had her head low, absentmindedly looking at the long steel table. She seemed confused and shocked. Aaron, on the other hand, looked angrier than ever.

"We seriously need to talk!" the man exploded while he banged his fists against the table, causing Jill to jump with surprise. He was shaking with rage. Jill had her sight still pointed towards the table, not wanting to make eye contact with Hood.

"What's the matter?" the latter said. Aaron jumped on his feet, knocking over his chair which crashed on the ground with a thud. Aggressively, he walked towards Hood and stopped just in front of him, his yes reflecting perfectly well his anger.

"The matter? Your last recruit is the matter!" Aaron screamed. Jill lifted her head, her eyes filled with tears. Jason frowned under his helmet and pushed Aaron away from him. "They were waiting for us at the labs! Jill isn't concerned by this problem but I've lost half of my men! They expected us!"

"What do you mean?" Hood questioned as calmly as he could.

"I mean that someone betrayed us! And I have my little idea of who it could be!"

'Kyle... Jason thought, confused. 'That's impossible... he was with me all the time...'

"You know exactly who I'm talking about, boss. Once a traitor, always a traitor." Jason clenched his fist at Aaron's accusations. He couldn't believe what he had heard. But what if Aaron was right? What if Kyle had betrayed him? He was completely overcame by doubts. Still angry, but surprisingly more calmly, Aaron asked for Kyle to be brought at the headquarters to be interrogated by him.

Hood, from all his height, posted himself just in front of Aaron. "I'll take care of this, now get out of this room," he declared coldly, his fists clenched. Aaron stormed out of the meeting room while Jill slowly stood up from where she was and threw a sorrowful glance at Hood before she closed the door behind her, leaving Hood by himself in the large room. Jason made sure to lock the door and to turn off all the cameras of the meeting room before he removed his helmet, his red domino mask still hiding his identity in case someone could still see him, which was technically impossible. He sat down on his chair and put his head between his hands before he angrily raked his hands in his hair.

"This can't be true..." he whispered. In his head, he tried to remember every moments when Kyle wasn't with him and where he could have contacted Black Mask but he didn't saw many. Still doubtful, he grabbed his phone out of his pocket and dialed Kyle's number. He looked at it during a long time. After one long minute, he finally decided to call. A few rings later, the young man picked up.

"Hey listen, I'm sorry for earlier, I-"

Not bothering to listen to what he had to say, Jason coldly told him, "I need you at the headquarters. Now."

"Uh... okay. I'm on my way."

"Good." After that, Jason immediately hung up and threw his phone away. He was still a tad angry because Kyle's behavior concerning the dog, but Aaron's accusations where beyond everything and he couldn't believe them but he knew he had to do something...

"So he tells you that I betrayed you and you believe him?! How on Earth is that even possible?!" Kyle screamed at Hood in front of all the persons who were present at the headquarters that day, gathered around the men like the members of an audience.

"Shut the fuck up, Traitor!" Aaron screamed from behind Hood, held back by the arms by some of the gang's men, the remaining his own group of henchmen behind him.

"Both of you shut up!" Hood commanded angrily as he was seriously starting to lose his temper. He turned towards Kyle, "is this true? Yes or no?"

"No it's not! He's fucking lying!"

"Don't call me a liar, Traitor!"

Hood roughly grabbed Kyle by the arms and started to walk away with him, followed by Aaron and his group of men. They took the elevator and went for the last level of the headquarters. There was standing a small cell and Hood brutally threw the young man in it. "Are you kidding me?!" he screamed, revolted, as he threw himself on the iron bars of the cell while the door got closed loudly by Hood who kept the key in the inside pocket of his brown leather jacket.

"You'll stay there until further notice." Without another sight, the tall helmeted man walked away. He gestured at the other men to follow him, order to which they complied immediately. Only Aaron didn't followed them right away. He looked at Kyle, the latter sending him a murderous glare.

"Traitor," he declared venomously. This simple word sent shivers down Kyle's spine and the young man clenched his fists even more against the iron bars of the cell, his jaw working madly and his eyes shining with anger. Satisfied with his reaction, Aaron smirked and walked away, leaving Kyle on his own, totally bewildered by the situation...

What an ending, uh? Let me know what you think of it and what you think will happen next :)
