The Island of Sodor

-Midday-

The film cuts into a shot of the island on the sea. Then, it cuts to some waves on the sandy beach. And then, Edward's whistle plays, as he rolls by with a goods train. Then there are shots of Edward's wheels, tender, and his face. Then, it switches to him going down the track and disappearing. Then, it switches to a blue A1 by Sir Nigel Gresley called Gordon pulling the mainline express, called the "Wild Nor Wester."

Gordon

Hurry, hurry, hurry!

It eventually cuts to Henry pulling a goods train down the mainline, passing by Gordon, and whistles to him. Gordon whistles back. It eventually cuts to Edward and James passing by each other, both pulling passenger trains, entering a tunnel. Both of them whistle to each other as they pass. Then, it cuts to more panorama shots of the island. And then, it cuts to Sir Topham Hatt's office.

Sir Topham

Ok, Gordon's right on schedule with the Wild Nor Western. Henry appears to be making good time with his goods train. Oh, and, when is that tank engine going to arrive?

Suddenly, the door opens, and the station master runs in.

Station master

Excuse me, sir, there's a small engine outside who's looking for you.

Sir Topham

Oh! That must be him.

Sir Topham Hatt runs outside, and he is greeted by a small tank engine with 6 small wheels, a short stumpy funnel, a short stumpy boiler & dome at the platform.

Sir Topham

Oh, hello! Are you my new tank engine?

Thomas

Yes, I'm a tank engine! What else would I be?

Sir Topham

I.. I don't know. What's your name?

Thomas

Thomas.

Sir Topham

Well, Thomas. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Sir Topham Hatt, the head director of the North Western. This is a very busy railway, and I am a very busy man. Now, I have purchased you to operate the shuttle service to Elsbridge Harbor, as well as to pull short goods trains.

Thomas

Shuttle to Elsbridge Harbor? Goods trains?

Sir Topham

Precisely.

Thomas

Wouldn't that require a lot of waiting?

Sir Topham

Yes, it would. Patience and waiting is key, Thomas.

Thomas

I don't have time to wait. Where are my coaches?

Sir Topham

Your coaches are in the yard. They are green coaches with 6 wheels. And you start on platform 3. Off you go now!

Thomas puffs away into the station yard, leaving Sir Topham Hatt behind in a cloud of steam, resulting in his hat getting wet.

Sir Topham

Oh dear, oh dear.. My hat's all wet now.

Sir Topham walks back into his office. Thomas is in the station yard, looking for his coaches.

Thomas

What am I looking for again?

Thomas forgets that he's looking for green 6 wheeled coaches.

Thomas' driver

We're looking for some green branch line coaches with 6 wheels, Thomas.

Thomas

Oh. Right. Um..

There is a pan shot from Thomas' POV, as he is looking for his green coaches. He eventually finds them on a siding. Thomas puffs up to them.

Thomas

So these are my coaches?

Thomas' driver

Accordingly, yes. Come on, let's bring these to platform 3.

Thomas backs down with a bump in front of his coaches. He is promptly coupled to his train and he brings them to the platform. Once he does, his driver hops out of the cab.

Thomas' driver

Now, Thomas, just a reminder. Don't bump the coaches. If there are people inside the coaches, they could possibly get hurt.

Thomas

Why shouldn't I bump the coaches?

Thomas' driver

Because that's not the proper way to handle them. You need to learn how to handle them right.

Thomas

Learn how?! I don't have to learn how! They're all rolling stock.

Thomas' driver

Some rolling stock is treated differently than others, Thomas.

Thomas

Hmph.

Thomas looks away with a cross look on his face. The passengers begin to board Thomas' passenger coaches. And Thomas is still waiting, albeit very impatiently. His driver is now back in his cab.

Thomas

Why is this taking so long?!

Thomas' driver

Again, Thomas, please be patient. We need to let everyone on board.

Thomas grows more & more impatient as he waits for his passengers to board his train. Then it goes to the station clock ticking away, and back to Thomas looking very impatient. And then, finally, the last passenger hops on board Thomas' train. The door is closed, and the guard blows his whistle.

Thomas

Oh, finally!

Thomas rushes out of Knapford station, and he leaves his guard behind.

The guard

Wait up! Stop!

Thomas is already far out of the station as the guard is yelling for him to come back.

The guard

Come back! You've left me behind!

It cuts to Thomas rushing down the mainline, determined to get to Crosby station on time.

Thomas

I mustn't be late, I mustn't be late!

Thomas' driver

Thomas. We left our guard behind!

Thomas

Nonsense! He should be in the brake coach!

Thomas keeps speeding down the mainline until he arrives at Tidmouth station, and screeches to a halt. Due to how suddenly he stops, his coaches come in, bumping Thomas from behind.

Thomas

Alright, we're right on schedule!

It cuts to the station clock. Thomas glances at the clock and sees that he is 10 minutes early. But he doesn't realize this.

Thomas' driver

No, we're not! We're 10 minutes early, and you left your guard behind! We can't proceed without a guard.

Sir Topham Hatt shows up.

Sir Topham

Thomas! You have caused some major confusion. First off, why did you leave your guard behind?

Thomas

I'm sorry, I thought I was late!

Sir Topham

But you're not late, Thomas. Second off, don't go speeding down the tracks like that. At a speed like that, you could cause a careless accident.

Thomas

I'm sorry...

Sir Topham

And third off, BE PATIENT! You need to be patient as your passengers board your train.

Thomas

I'm sorry again...

Sir Topham

You have to call me Sir, Thomas. Anyways, you have a lot to learn about pulling trains.

Thomas

Yes, sir, I understand, sir.

Sir Topham

Now, wait for your guard to catch up. And when he does, wait for the green flag. Again. Patience is key.

Thomas

Yes, sir.

Thomas waits for his guard to show up. Once he does show up, he waits for the passengers and the guard to get in. After a couple of minutes of waiting for everyone to get in, the door shuts and the guard blows his whistle, and waves his flag.

Sir Topham

Ok, Thomas, now you can go.

Thomas whistles, and puffs out of Crosby station. Sir Topham Hatt leaves the station and gets into his car. And he drives away.
