Chapter 48 - Girlfriend

Dmitri

The way Sky looked at me after I gave her my mother's necklace made me want to rip off her clothes and mine and say fuck this stupid party. While the thought of Ivan coming to find me passed through my mind, the one that ultimately made me rethink my 'fuck this party' scenario was my duty as Alpha and as the event's host. Not being there to receive the guests could be perceived as an insult in our culture. Alphas took disrespect very seriously, and the last thing I wanted was to start issues with the neighboring packs.

And so we found ourselves standing outside a large tent erected for the occasion, guests arriving in the dozens. Some came in cars, while those close enough made the swift journey through the forest. Surveillance and checkpoints ensured that only those invited were allowed through the borders.

Sky, who was standing next to me speaking to a young female from the White River Pack who had just arrived, had astonished me so far. As introverted as she was, she remained by my side, chatting with people as they arrived. Many were curious about her, considering the news that had already been spread by those at the conference. None asked her about it, perhaps sensing the issue was not up for discussion, and most treated her as they would any other creature part of our world.

I tear my gaze away from Sky as a voice breaks through my thoughts.

"Alpha Dmitri, nice to see you again." Jacobson is standing in front of me, formal attire giving him a look of power I know he is undeserving of. His tone just barely covered his dislike for me.

"Alpha Jacobson. Glad you could make it." I shake his hand, my tone equally as revealing regarding my dislike for the excuse of an Alpha in front of me.

Sky, who has her arm linked through mine, quietly observes our interaction. She smiles as I glance at her, making me wish I was alone with her instead of here.

"This is my girlfriend, Sky. Sky, this is Alpha Jacobson of the Silver Wood Pack." I never introduced her as Skylar. That name was reserved for me. She has long since lost the surprised look at being introduced as my girlfriend. Her face when I first said it was one I wish I could have captured on camera. Shock and then delight.

"It's nice to meet you, Alpha Jacobson," she smiles sweetly at him. Her smile elicits a genuine and warm one from him in exchange. "I've already heard so much about you, Sky. News travels fast."

"I'm sure it does, Alpha," Sky says sweetly though I can feel the tension in her. Jacobson sees the look I am giving him and quickly turns his attention to the female who has just appeared beside him.

"My wife couldn't make it tonight as she is about to explode with cub number five, so I brought a new addition to our pack. This is Savannah. She transferred from a pack in the west last week. She has become a great asset to our surveillance team." Jacobson practically beams as he looks at the woman standing beside him.

The first thing I notice about her is her scent. While the amount of perfume she has on is overwhelming, especially for my senses, there is a scent in there that is rather appealing. Though if it is genuine or manufactured, I can't be sure. Apart from that, there is nothing that appeals to me.

She is taller than Sky at around 5'8". Her straight midnight black hair is cinched in a high ponytail that hangs down her back, reaching her waist. She has olive green eyes and a clear pale complexion. She is wearing a revealing black dress that leaves little to the imagination, barely covering her curvy figure. A figure which is muscular but shapely. Her feet are adorned in the highest heels I have ever seen a woman wear. She is also looking at me with a look I have seen on so many women's faces that I literally despise it. The only person I can bear looking at me with lust is the woman currently holding my arm.

"It's surreal meeting you, Alpha Dmitri. I've been told stories of you over the years, so it's quite an honor to finally meet you in person." Savannah's voice is smooth like velvet, sensual almost, her eyes never leaving mine as she speaks. She holds a small fan in her hand that she lightly fans her neck and face with, effectively wafting her scent around. She is looking at me expectantly as if waiting for something.

"It's nice to meet you, Savannah. We hope you both have a lovely time here tonight," Sky says, drawing the woman's attention away from me. She smiles at Sky sweetly, but her eyes lose the warmth they held a moment before. Another emotion flashes across her face. Could it be anger, perhaps shock?

"Thank you...Sky, was it?" I feel anger coming off Sky which is unnoticeable to those who don't know her well.

"Yes. Just ask anyone for Dmitri's girlfriend if you can't remember, and they will know," Sky says as sweetly back.

I'm so surprised at her words that a smile appears on my face as I look back at Savannah and Jacobson. Savannah looks like she is barely containing her rage, while Jacobson just looks like he is enjoying this way too much.

"Let's move inside." I place my hand on the small of Sky's back while Savannah's eyes follow every motion.

Jacobson and Savannah walk off but not after one last look from Savanna in my direction.

"Wow, forward much," Sky mumbles under her breath beside me.

"You forget I have super hearing," I say, pinching her waist, causing a giggle to escape her delicious lips as she looks at me with a gleam in her eye.

"I mean, she was basically eating you with her disgusting green eyes," she says sarcastically. I can tell she doesn't think Savannah's eyes are disgusting. But no eyes intrigue me the way Sky's do. I can get lost in them for days. Just before we enter the tent, I pull her close, my nose finding her neck as I take a deep breath. While I had to admit there was something about Savannah's scent that intrigued me, Sky's scent was wiping it away. I feel a shudder through her body, my nose and mouth drawing a trail from her neck to her jawbone before our lips meet. The kiss deepens as I pull her body against mine.

I sense Ivan behind us before I hear him speak. "Time for dinner, my Alpha."

He is smirking as I release Sky, her heartbeat erratic, cheeks a beautiful, dusted pink. We follow Ivan into the tent lit with an array of fairy lights and lanterns, a soft, comfortable glow cast over the entire area. A stage has been erected on one side, with an elegant woman singing a melodic tune slightly drowned out by the crowd's chatter. High tables are scattered around the entire area, where pack members and guests mingle, drink, and eat. Waiters with glasses of champagne and entrees float around the room, ensuring everyone is sufficiently refueled. The atmosphere is pleasant. Everything I hoped for.

"Where's the bathroom?" Sky asks with a slight bit of nervousness in her tone. Probably the number of people in here is freaking her out.

"Dmitri." My name is being called by someone from one of the tables nearby. Turning, I see it is Alpha Ryan.

"Let me show you," I say, moving in the direction of the temporary bathrooms that have been erected at the rear of the tent.

"No, no. There's no need, Dmitri. I'm sure I can find it on my own. Besides, someone is looking for you." She squeezes my hand before heading off in the direction I was taking her. The sway of her hips leaves more than one man in her path gazing after her. I turn towards the Alpha so insistent on getting my attention while I stuff the jealousy I feel down.

Too late, I notice the woman standing beside him. Savannah. Persistent wench. She has the same hungry look in her eyes as before, her arms resting on the table, pushing her breasts together to accentuate her already overly exposed cleavage.

"Ryan. I'm glad to see you have recovered. The last I saw of you was with a gash in your side and a Hunter's spine in your hands." We fought together on a raid of one of the Hunter's hideouts two years ago. The same one that left me with a vicious scar along the right side of my jaw and neck. That battle would have been my last if I were not a Lycan. The blade had not only been silver but was also laced with wolfsbane and some other herbal mixture infused with magic that we were unable to identify. We suffered massive casualties—another reason I was against fighting Hunters with limited information. The council's order led to that disaster.

Ryan's eyes darken momentarily before he continues speaking. "Indeed, not a time I long to repeat. You, too, have healed nicely," he says, gesturing to the scar. "I see you finally have a girlfriend. Rumors of public displays of affection abound, my friend. I never thought I would be alive to see the day. So, what's your deal with her? Are you binding?"
