SCARLETT BLAKE HAD ALWAYS CONSIDERED her life to be a challenge, even before the dead arose from their graves to devour the living. Being the eldest out of four siblings wasn't easy, especially when their father was a raging alcoholic who always had a bottle of beer nearby and a mother who had ran out on them the day Scarlett turned eighteen. She had no choice but to step up and take care of them, or else nobody would.

SO, WHEN THE DEAD COME KNOCKING, Scarlett soon realises that her life in the old world was nothing compared to what it was about to turn into. The world that she had lived in was gone, replaced by a cruel, repulsive and scary world. The only way to survive in that world was to fight. But she wasn't only fighting for herself, she was fighting for her family, new and old, and that was never going to be an easy challenge. Especially when an unsuspecting redneck is thrown into the mix.

• as this is a the walking dead fanfic, there will be sensitive topics, such an graphic topics, mentions of gore, strong language and more. (trigger warnings will be given before the chapter begins if chapter is graphic.)

• since the walking dead's timeline is weird, every two seasons the characters will age a year, since that's kind of what happened with carl. so by s6, sierra, carl and evan will be 15/16.

• daryl's age isn't actually confirmed in the show, so i've set his age to be 30 as of s1.

• please note that there will be spicy scenes, but there wont be a full chapter dedicated to simply that, i find it uncomfortable to write scenarios such as pure smut. although i've made that clear, please don't let that drift you away from the story.

• in relation to the carl and sierra side story, their story won't fully set off until later in the book as they're both literal children, so also take note of that!!

• yes, this is a daryl fanfic, but please note that it
will be heavily story based as well, with characters
such as scarlett having genuine, diverse personalities
that will grow as the story goes on. this will make it
worthwhile in the future.

• some chapter may vary in length as the story is
very built in with episodes.
