The Family

"Jin! Tae!" Hoseok's voice was projected into the room, and the rest of their friends appeared in the doorway, Yoongi wheeling his bike along beside him.

"Where were you?" Hobi questioned them.

"Have you two really been in here all this time?" Jimin asked, raising an eyebrow.

"We've been all over the museum already!" Namjoon exclaimed before either of them could answer, coming to sit next to Taehyung on the bench they had since claimed, as Yoongi propped his bike up against a wall.

"Yeah, you missed out!" laughed Jungkook, slinging an arm each over Jin and Tae's shoulders. "You were right when you said it would be interesting, Tae!"

"You didn't really miss out," Yoongi muttered into Jin's ear. "Not if you didn't want to listen to their yapping for almost a full hour."

"Hey, you were the one who almost crashed into that ancient vase!" complained Jimin, who had overheard, swatting at Yoongi's arm.

"I thought that was Namjoon?" Hobi joked, earning a glare from the clumsy friend.

"Anyway, what were you up to?" Namjoon asked.

"N-nothing really..." Jin stuttered. "We were just...talking about...stuff." In truth, he had just finished reciting the events of that day to Taehyung, and the pair had agreed never to speak of the imposter to any of the others.

"Okay then..." Namjoon looked sideways at them as if to say he didn't entirely believe them, but said no more about the matter.

"Should we leave now?" Hobi piped up. "It's almost lunchtime, and I'm starving!" The others agreed collectively and set off towards the entrance of the museum.

Jin took one last look at the curious mural before he followed them. It looked almost the same, but he could have sworn the winged statue didn't have that much paint running down its face before. Hoping they were tears of joy and not pain, he turned away with a satisfied sigh, and jogged after his friends, making sure to fall in beside them instead of lagging behind.

"Why do you think no one else was at the museum?" Jungkook asked Jin once they were outside. Jin shot a knowing look at Taehyung, but didn't mention the imposter, who must have planned for the museum to be empty apart from the seven boys.

"People were probably busy today," he answered instead with a shrug.

"Or maybe they didn't want to be there at the same time as Jimin," Yoongi sniggered.

"How dare you!" Jimin gasped dramatically, and everyone burst out laughing and didn't stop until they reached the apartment.

Later that evening, Jin was relaxing on the couch, listening to the cheerful chatter of his best friends. He smiled to himself – life was bliss, and he never wanted this moment to end; all the people who he held dearest were here, and they were happy together.

"What's that on your cheek?" Jin suddenly heard in his right ear. He looked over, startled, to see no one except his own reflection in the mirror above the fireplace. For a second he thought he could see a long scratch and a smudge of acid green on his face, but he blinked and they were gone. Things would be alright after all.
