Don't @ me, I read the manga. I j decided to change somethings 🀷

Tomioka dreamed of everything and nothing at times.

He dreamt of blue skies.

Of the wind pushing his hair.

The bright green color of the grassy fields he would train on.

The water sparkling in the lake beside his home.

The hard steel of his katana in his hand.

The birds chirping in the air.

The mindless chatter of people around him.

He dreamt of clear skies and empty fields.

He dreamt of everything.

But at the same time he dreamt of nothing.

He dreamt of black surrounding him.

Of darkness filling all of his senses.

Nothing, not a sound, not a sight, nothing.

Just emptiness.

Some part of Tomioka knew he was asleep.

After all, it wasn't often he would be able to see his sister in such detail.

But the more dominant part of Tomioka was content.

Happy.

When was the last time he had truly felt happiness?

Sanemi...

No...

Yes...

Tomioka was conflicted.

Sanemi was a first of many things for Tomioka.

The first time tomioka had felt truly happy in a long time.

But it didn't matter...

Because Tomioka would never see Sanemi again, would he?

He wasn't sure of the details, most of the night being a blur.

But he always remembered that face.

The face of the demon who took so much from him.

The screams of his sister will haunt him forever.

Inevitably , the second Tomioka allowed himself to feel happy again, something happened that ruined his chances.

Was he just not allowed?

Was Tomioka not allowed to be happy?

That doesn't seem fair.

But..Then again...

Life isn't fair.

Maybe this is his fate.

Doomed to pain, loneliness, and sadness.

Maybe if Tomioka accepted this fate, nobody else would be hurt because of him.

Yeah..

That seemed right.

If Tomioka cut everyone off, they wouldn't get hurt right?

Sanemi wouldn't be hurt.

Shinobu wouldn't be hurt.

Tanjiro wouldn't be hurt.

It was worth it.

If it meant the people he cared about, the people he was beginning to love, wouldn't get hurt...

Then Tomioka would take on all the pain in the world without hesitation.

β—‡β—‡β—‡

Sanemi is a mess.

He hasn't slept in four days.

He's wearing the same clothing for said four days.

The nights were spent attacking any demon who dared cross his path and the days where spent tracking footprints left in the ground.

Sanemi would never admit this to anyone, but he was desperate.

When they arrived and saw the blood everywhere, Obanai immediately ran towards where Mitsuri went, Sanemi going the other way. Blood greeted both of them. Luckily, Mitsuri was not even hurt that badly, the woman in a fight with a demon that was quickly killed by Obanai's rage. Sanemi found Shinobu unconscious but not dead. He instructed Kanao to take care of her teacher while he raced after the demon.

Sanemi spent the entire night running in circles, aimlessly, trying to find the demon. At some point through the night, Rengoku joined him, anger radiating from his body, his expression murderous. He did not spare Sanemi a glance or word, following behind him silently. Sanemi didn't complain because he could use the extra eyes.

Uzui followed them at one point the sound pillar informing them that Shinobu was awake and already trying to leave. All of the pillars and some of the lower ranked demon slayers were already out looking for Tomioka and would not rest until he was found.

That was four days ago.

Four fucking days ago.

Sanemi scowled again, punching the ground in front of him hard enough to gain questioning looks from Obanai and Rengoku.

The two had made it their mission to accompany Sanemi on his missions. Obanai because he blamed himself for not getting their fast enough to help, even though he was right outside with Sanemi. Rengoku because he was the one to rescue Tomioka the first time and was going to do it again.

Sanemi's eye twitched annoyingly, his hands curling into fists for the tenth time today.

"How can he just fucking vanish like this? There's nothing. Absolutely nothing!" Sanemi shouted angrily.

"The demon is evolving. The first time there was barely anything. Now there's nothing. But it doesn't mean we won't be able to find him." Rengoku said as he stared at Sanemi.

Sanemi growled, jumping up and grabbing the mans collar, pulling him in until they were nose to nose.

"If theres nothing.." He growled out, voice dangerously low, obviously sounding daring enough that Obanai gripped his sword, "Then how the fuck do we find him?" He shouted.

Rengoku frowned.

"I..I don't know..."

Sanemi huffed and let go of Rengoku, jumping into the trees and staring down below.

"If I was a demon..kidnapping someone...what would I do?" Sanemi mumbled as he looked below.

I would take them somewhere I could watch them all day...Somewhere sun doesn't reach..A cave? No, to obvious. This demon obviously is smart enough to know that we will look for caves. Tunnels then? Unlikely. If I wanted to hide somewhere I wouldn't go to obvious places...A house? No...a hotel...Some place where its dark enough I can just cover the windows...Somewhere sound doesn't travel well...

Tomioka mentioned something about being really cold when he got back..So..maybe this place was warm? Somewhere sun doesn't reach yet is still hot? Even during the night...

Sanemi gasped, and jumped out of the trees, landing with a grunt on the ground.

Ignoring the looks of confusion from his partners, he turned and started running back towards Shinobu's house, which ended up becoming a base for the demon slayers looking for Tomioka.

He heard the footsteps of the men behind him and he picked up his pace, trusting them to keep up.

"Where are we going?" Obanai questioned as he matched Sanemi's speed effortlessly.

"I know where he is." Is all Sanemi replied before moving ahead to Shinobu's.

Please let me be right...

Shinobu chewed on her lip, listening to Sanemi give instructions to the other hashira's and lower rank demon slayers.

She wasn't allowed to participate in this operation, her broken leg hindering her.

Usually, all of the hashira's would never go on a mission together, but then again this wasn't a usual case.

This was Tomioka.

And if Shinobu was allowed to go, having been banned by Oyakata-Sama himself, she would not hesitate to go.

Tomioka was her dear friend.

Through-out the years she had slowly watched him open himself up more and forgive others, letting them into his heart.

Even through all her teasing, he was a dear friend and she would go to the ends of the earth to protect him.

She could tell Sanemi would do the same.

She just wished he would hurry up and save Tomioka.

Before it is to late...

β—‡β—‡β—‡

Genya watched as his brother yelled at lower corps, and resisted the urge to chime in.

It was difficult to watch his brother be so obviously agitated and not be able to do anything.

Genya watched his older brother run a hand through his hair, his other hand gripping his sword tightly.

Genya knew Sanemi was itching for a fight.

They were getting ready to go and find Tomioka-san, the water pillar, and somebody his older brother obviously cares about.

Genya refused to feel jealous of the man taking his brothers attention because he was happy that Sanemi finally found somebody he could let in.

Somebody to make him happy.

And if anybody threatened the happiness of his big brother, they would pay.

β—‡β—‡β—‡

Rengoku Kyojuro has been through a lot.

Between his messed up father and his loving sick mother, he had been thrown into the harsh world at a young age.

He had his little brother to keep him happy however, and he couldn't help but feel depressed knowing Tomioka had nobody.

The man didn't share much about himself, but everybody knows that he has no family left, (Family was seldom for demon slayers anyways) and he doesn't let anybody in, whether to protect himself or others, Rengoku couldn't tell you.

The second Rengoku laid eyes on the man, he could sense an overwhelming darkness within his head, a war with some unknown enemy being fought.

Rengoku will never be able to forgot the sight of Tomioka's body, cold and still against that cursed cave floor, blood covering him, whether his own blood or somebody else's, Rengoku will never know.

It had taken Rengoku so long to even work up the courage to see Tomioka after that.

Tomioka was still in his coma, so Rengoku visited after days of working up the courage, but all he could think about was carrying the too-light body of Tomioka, hoping he could make it back to Shinobu in time, not knowing what to do if Tomioka died.

When he gave Tomioka that hug, he should have known what would happen.

But he still froze when he saw the shaking form of Tomioka in front of him.

Kyojuro remembers being punched by Sanemi and Tanjiro dragged him away. He had watched from the side as Sanemi held Tomioka close to him and said nothing, just combing his hand through Tomioka's hair.

Rengoku was glad he was able to see that.

Finally Tomioka was allowing somebody in, even after everything, and Rengoku was happy that he was able to witness it.

If this demon thinks that they can take Tomioka again, take his happiness away again...

Rengoku will make sure that Tomioka can be happy again.

If it's the last thing the flame pillar does.

β—‡β—‡β—‡

Sanemi watched anxiously as people in the room began to get ready.

It was finally time.

Sanemi was coming to rescue Tomioka.

He just hoped Tomioka would wait for him.

Sanemi is not going to find Tomioka's dead body when he arrives.

He just isn't.

And if he does...

Then every demon and demon slayer will know the wraith of the wind pillar and see what he can really do.

He was going to save Tomioka.

He wasn't accepting any other outcome.

β—‡β—‡β—‡

Not again...

Its hot...

Tomioka's toes curled.

His feet were chained.

Again..

No no no no no.....

This is a dream...

I'm not back...

He shifted his body, bare legs getting scratched against the hard floor.

His back hurt.

His ribs were broken again..

His head hurt.

Shinobu...

Is she okay?

Sanemi...

Where's Sanemi?

Is he okay?

Tomioka felt his eyes roll back as he slipped back into unconsciousness.

"'Nemi...hurry..."
