Chapter 3

The next day, Slender walked to Laughing Jack's house to tell him about Splendor's condition. Laughing Jack was shocked when Slender said that he was in a horrible depression all because he was in love with Lydia.

"Is there any way to help him?" asked Laughing Jack.

Slender sighed. "I'm not sure. Maybe if she loved him back or something; I've never seen anything like this before. If he doesn't get better soon he's going to die."

Natalie looked at Laughing Jack with worry. Splendor was their dearest friend and if something were to happen to him, nothing would be the same. They looked over at Lydia who was on the couch watching a movie and sighed. The only way she would ever fall for Splendor was if Jeff broke her heart, something Laughing Jack never wanted to ever happen.

Two months later...

Lydia was walking to Slender mansion to surprise Jeff on their two month anniversary. She had gotten him a new knife as a gift, she hoped he liked it. As she was walking upstairs to his room, she heard screams and moans coming from his room. Thinking he was hurt, she opened the door and found Jane, naked, on top of a naked Jeff. Her heart broke into a million pieces at the sight of them. She dropped the knife on to the floor and ran downstairs crying. Not looking where she was going, she ran into Splendor, knocking his tea on to the ground.

"I'm so sorry, Splendor," she said as she picked up the glass.

Splendor bent down and looked at her. "Who hurt you, Lydia?"

Lydia hugged Splendor tightly, trying to forget what she saw. "J...Jeff cheated on me...with Jane..."

Splendor scowled and looked at the girl in his arms. "I'm so sorry my dear."

Lydia shook her head and continued to cry. Splendor picked the girl up into his arms and carried her into his room, laying her down gently on the bed. He stayed with her until she cried herself to sleep before going downstairs to make another cup of tea. When he got down there, he saw Jeff sitting at the table, his head in his hands.

"I lost her, Splendy," he sobbed. "She's gone and it's my entire fault."

Splendor looked at Jeff. "Why would you have sex with your worst enemy when Lydia clearly loves you?"

Jeff shook his head. "I honestly don't know. I was just so needy and I knew Lydia wanted to wait, but I couldn't hold it."

"You are a fool for doing that to such a wonderful woman, Jeff."

Without another word, Splendor walked back upstairs to check on Lydia. She was sitting up on the bed with Splendor's scrapbook of all their pictures and poems he wrote just for her. She smiled at one of the pages and giggled a little. Splendor smiled a little at the sound of her laughter. He walked over to her to see what picture she was looking at and started laughing himself. It was a photo-strip of him and Lydia on her seventeenth birthday; both of them grinning like mad. Splendor smiled and looked at Lydia, her face covered in her eyeliner. He picked up a rag and wet it a little before using it to wipe up her face. She smiled at him when he was done and flipped through the rest of the book.

"Splendor, why did you write the poems?" she asked as she set the book down.

"Because a long time ago, I fell in love with someone very dear to me; I wrote those poems for her, but never dared to show them to her."

Lydia looked at him and smiled. "What was the lucky woman's name?"

Splendor put his finger under her chin and moved closer to her, their lips almost touching.

"She was you, Lydia," he whispered before putting his lips against hers.

Lydia felt her face heat up but kissed back. Splendor's lips were softer than Jeff's. As they kissed, Slender walked by and for the first time, smiled at what he saw. He walked away knowing that his brother would be alright and would soon be healthy once again. When Lydia pulled away from Splendor, her face was as red as blood. Splendor smiled and kissed her head before wrapping the small girl in his arms. The two laid in silence for an hour before Jeff stormed into the room.

"Lydia, please forgive me," he begged.

Lydia buried her face in Splendor's neck and shook her head. "I can't forgive you, Jeff. You cheated on me with the person you claimed to hate!"

Jeff looked at Splendor and scowled. "What do you think you're doing with her?"

Splendor frowned. "She needs love, Jeff, not heartbreak. You had sex with Jane when you were with her."

Jeff looked at Lydia and sighed. "I'll wait for you."

Fresh tears poured out of Lydia's eyes as Jeff walked out of the room. She hated herself for loving him, but she never expected anything like that to happen. She stayed with Splendor for the rest of the day before walking back home. Laughing Jack could tell that something was wrong.

"Lydia, what's the matter?" he asked.

Lydia sighed. "Jeff cheated on me with Jane. I went to give him his present and caught him...doing things...with Jane."

Laughing Jack's mouth fell open. He pulled his daughter into a tight hug and held her as she cried.

"I think you need some good news," he said as he stood up.

"What news?"

Natalie walked into the room with a large smile on his face. "You're going to be a big sister, Lydia."

Lydia grinned with excitement. She had wanted to be a big sister for years. She talked with her parents for a few more hours before walking upstairs to her room to write in her diary.

Two things have happened today. First, Jeff cheated on me with that Jane woman, so we are no longer together But, I think I may like Splendor, Slender's brother. He is very sweet and gentle; I think I may be safer with him.

Lydia put the book down and covered up before drifting off to sleep, thinking of everything that happened that day.
