Chapter 7

The Belikov Sister's aren't like in the novel, they are respected guardians working in Saint Basil's.

Rose Point of view

Preparations for returning home started taking place quickly, as we weren't needed much here anyway. Lissa had to return to court to make a full investigation into what had happened. Our people back home were informed of what had happened, to a certain extent. I didn't want Dimitri to know about the episode. If Dimitri knew what happened that night, he would come straight here and bring me home himself. I know that it was hard on him already having to see me deal with the side effects of being a shadow-kissed and not being able to help.

I remember the first time the headaches started to get stronger.  We were both out on a date, away from court and its wards. We usually had our date nights throughout the month, always in, court due to our high-manding job. But that certain date night, Lissa had made our reservation to a restaurant that she heard of. She made sure that we dressed up and looked our best, as she claimed it was a fancy restaurant. When we left the court and the wards a headache started up. It was something that I could have easily ignored as I've had worse every time I went on a plane. The more we got away from the court the pain started to get worse. I tried pulling my walls up what protected me from those who have died and are visible to me.

"Roza, what's wrong?" Dimitri asked as he kept his eyes on the road but from the corner of his eyes knew that something was terribly wrong.

Dimitri did know me well enough, he was playing his old-style music and I didn't complain about it. I tried to suppress the pain and actually enjoy our night out without the kids, a night where we could be just my husband and me.

"My head" I  whispered as I tried to keep my head down.

" Look at me," he said, he knew that if he saw my eyes he would know.

I lifted my head up looking at him but not really as my shadow-kissed yellow golden were the ones looking at him. He quickly parked the car in a corner and turned his full body towards me.

" Are you having headaches, do you want to go back?" Dimitri asked knowing that if I said yes we would turn back quickly.

Ever since that day I've had to wear an extra-infused spirit charm that helps with the pain.

After Lissa made a few calls and informed the rest of the council of what had gone down, they urgently suggested that we came back to America. They would be sending a private jet to the nearest academy which was Saint Basil's. They had suggested leaving during Moroi time but I had insisted that it be human time. I personally didn't want any more confrontation while being here. The jet would be landing here within one day time, which it's fine by us. In the meantime, we would just have to be extremely careful especially having Lissa 'the Queen" with us.

Having to be here stuck in Russia gave me the opportunity to spend some time with my Russian family which I didn't get to see much. We did get to see the nieces and nephews when they would come to America for the summer, but not so much of Karolina and Sonja. Karolina and Sonja both being guardians and teaching at Saint Basil's gave them little time to travel.

" Karolina and Sonja would really love it if you went to visit them," Olena said bringing me back to reality.

"That's up to Lissa If she wants to pay the school a visit" I replied knowing how fun it was when Lissa would randomly show up to schools.

" They are on their field experience, so visiting will be quite the experience," Olena said as she knew field experiences were my favorite.

From time to time Lissa would send people from the guard to schools during the field experience. She wanted the upcoming graduates to have a different taste when it came to combat and to make them see that its no joke that once you're out there it's your life or theirs. I remember that one time I was sent to a school and I was informed about two Dhampirs who gave the guardians a headache. They weren't trained the way we were, so their technique was sloppy but they liked a challenge, so did I. I took my shot when they were with a group of friends. I wanted to see how they would protect their assignments but mostly on their fighting skills. As a group, they did well, but when it came to their fighting skills they most certainly need improvement. I took down the majority of the group alone which gained an audience. Many wanting to know who was hidden behind taking a group down alone. After I had successfully taken them down by capturing their assignments, I revealed myself.

To some it was a wake-up call that they're living out of the academy wasn't a joke, it could be easily taken away. Having random guardians come and test them it gave them the experience and it was a challenge for them.

Viktoria would be the one driving us once again to Saint Basil as she knows the guardians in the front gate. If any of us would drive up to the gates they would automatically think something is up. When we reached the academy we made sure that the guardians in the front gate didn't give the heads up to the headmaster. They opened the gate and Viktoria quickly drove away towards the main building. She quickly found parking and that's when we all started to get out the car one by one until Lissa was the last one. The headmaster came quickly and bowed to Lissa as everyone did.

"It's very nice to be in your presence once again," the headmaster said as he smiled to Lissa.

"Nice to see you again Anthony" Lissa smiled back being polite.

" I was just informed that your jet would land here, didn't expect you to come too quickly," Anthony said.

"Being unexpected gets us to places safer" I said out loud extending my hand towards him.

Anthony shook my hand quickly seeing who I was even if I didn't have my guardians attire.

"Guardian Hathaway- Belikov" Anthony said smiling.

"Your majesty, if you'll follow me there are things that I will like to speak to you about," Anthony said turning back to Lissa.

" Watch him ask for more funds or a re-location, "  Lissa said through the bond

Her comment only made me laugh, knowing that those conversations are never fun.

"Before I go with you, you guys are free to wander around, see if any guardians need help," Lissa said as she looked at her team.

Since we were inside the wards, Lissa didn't need her seven guardians to follow her the entire time.  But it was up to her if she wanted two or one to accompany her around, knowing her she's going to want someone with her.

"You can all report to the guardian headquarters and they'll let you know where they can place you," Anthony said looking at us all.

"Belikov and Castile, come with me," Lissa said she followed Anthony to his office with Viktoria and Eddy behind them.

The rest of us all made our way to the guardian headquarters to see where they would need us. I let the team decide first where they would want to go.

"Where are the Belikov's?" I asked the guardian sitting down by the entrance.

"Karolina is currently teaching the high school juniors and Sonja is in the elementary building" the guardian replied.

Karolina had the patients to teach high schoolers were as Sonja didn't, she preferred small children.

The rest of the team were given places where they were needed and they all headed their own way. I made my way to visit Karolina first and then Sonja who was on the other side of the property. Thankfully I didn't need someone to show me where everything was, having in-laws here gave me reasons to come and visit.  As I reached the gymnasium where Karolina would be, all I heard were the blows on the matts. I peeked through the window and saw the students all huddled around a certain matt, my guess they were looking at something. The students were all cheering whoever was in the middle, which could mean someone was sparring. I opened the door making sure that I didn't make a noise. I didn't want to take attention away from what was happening.  As I walked around to the nearest wall, I was able to see that Karolina was sparring with one of her students. The Belikov's were considered God's in the Dhampir world, so the poor boy was having a hard time landing blows on Karolina. You can tell that Karolina was giving the boy a chance, but when he wasn't getting anywhere she ended it. Her students all clapped which I joined, giving up that I was there.

"Aunt Rose" I heard someone said, quickly realizing who it was.

My nephew Paul.

Paul made his way out of the circle giving me a bear hug picking me off the floor. I laughed at his embrace knowing that it would have been harder for him to bend over and hug me.

"Good to see you" I smiled at him.

Karolina quickly followed her son and gave me a hug.

"Sister" she whispered, after our short embrace she quickly turned to her class.

"Everyone, this is my sister Guardian Rosemarie Belikov," Karolina said as she took center stage.

I nodded my head and waved looking at them all. If they didn't know who I was they knew now.

"Class dismissed," she said to them, which some found surprising but didn't argue making their way back to the Locker rooms.

When the majority of them were in the locker room, she signaled Paul and me to follow her to her office. Karolina was in charge of combat classes for all high schoolers so they gave her an office to herself. As soon as Paul and I were in she quickly shut the door and turned her attention towards me.

" I was told what happens, are you sure you're okay? Why isn't my brother here with you?" She asked knowing how her brother was so protective of me.

My sisters in law and my nephew knew that I am a Shadow-Kissed Dhampir. Paul had witnessed it when I had sparred with him and Lissa wanted my attention in something so she dragged me in her head. That day my sisters in law found out as well as they were there when Paul and I sparred. I had to explain to them what I am and how I could sense Strigoi when they are near. My sisters understood more as they remembered the time I came to Russia for the first time and went on a killing spree with un-promised Dhampirs.

" I almost lost control back in the church, but I made it," I said knowing that whatever I said wouldn't come out this room.

"Were you able to get any leads as to why they attacked the church the way they did?" Karolina asked.
