Chapter 9: Lucky Girl

The gangs are taking a tour in a Witchcraft history museum, being led by an old tour guide lady.

"And behind this impenetrable glass is the recently discovered and only known existing copy of the Arkamada book of spells." The tour guide informed the book inside the glass exhibit.

"It contains ancient witchcraft and rituals from the late 1600s." Both Gwen and the tour guide said in unison accidentally.

"Maybe you should work here, dear." The tour guide remarked before she continued the tour.

Ben went next to his cousin.

"Don't let mummy face get to you." Ben whispered. "She probably older than that spell book."

Y/n joined the fun by blowing raspberry and posed like a mummy, making the Tennyson cousins laughed. Suddenly, they and the rest of the tourist floating in the air and trapped on the ceiling.

Max groaned in displease. "Something tells me this isn't on the tour."

"Uh, no offense, Mr. Tennyson." Y/n apologized. "But what was your first clue?"

Below them, a red swirling mist came out through the window. From it, a robed figure with a wooden staff emerged in front of the book.

Y/n's loud squeal caught everyone's attention, including the robbed figure.

"Sorry." Y/n apologized awkwardly. "First time to seeing an actual magic. Unlike those street performers."

The tourist gave the boy a look of disbelief while the robbed figure ignored him and turned to the book.

"The Arkamada book of spells. All of its power shall soon be mine." The figure declared before he chanted a spell, making the glass broke into million of pieces.

Both Y/n and Ben activated their respective watches and twisted the faceplates, choosing the right alien for the situation. The spell book floated onto the figure's hand and as if noticing the boys' intention, he dropped them all of the ceiling.

In midair, Y/n and Ben turned into Terroranchula and Xlr8 respectively. The spider alien used his web to swing down and then made a net to catch the falling tourist while the speedster used a tapestry.

"Everyone out!" Xlr8 shouted to everyone.

"Ben, Y/n, be careful." Max advice. "You don't know what tricks he's got up his sleeves."

The two alien nodded and both Gwen and Max rushed out the building, following the rest of tourist. Then, the two confronted the magician.

"Dude, you want a book? Try the library." Xlr8 taunted.

The magician chanted a spell and burned the tapestry, creating a sea of fire. The two aliens split up. Xlr8 ran up the wall while Terroranchula circled around his enemy.

While the magician is distracted by Xlr8, Terroranchula shot a web at the magician's staff. The spider was about to yank it, but the magician shot a red shards that explode on impact, blowing Terroranchula away.

Xlr8 dropped down and rushed the magician. But before he could even reach him, the magician shot a blinding light, resulting the speedster went pass him and hit a furniture. The magician is about to attack him again, but two trash cans flew at him from the back. He turned around to see Max and Gwen.

"Guess, we got his attention." Gwen said the obvious.

"Kinda wish he hadn't." Max hoped.

Suddenly, a red energy beam stunned the magician. Both Max and Gwen turned to the source and found a smoke trail coming out from Terroranchula's jaws. During his research about his aliens, Y/n figured out that Terroranchula could shot an energy beam if he gathered enough power.

Then, Xlr8 went to finish the job. Using his speed, he spun around the magician, creating a small whirlwind. He sent the magician flying and knocked him down to the ground, unintentionally dropped a keystone from the magician. Xlr8 picked it up and inspected it as Terroranchula regrouped.

"Nice job." Max complimented the two.

"Just doing what we need to do and keeping it low-key." The speedster claimed.

But on the contrary to his words, the speedster alien is basking for attention as soon as he's being surrounded by reporters and photographers at the front of the building.

After that, the gangs continued their trip with the kids are at the table. Y/n sitting next to Ben with Gwen across the boys.

"Why you two get all the attention?!" Gwen complained. "I helped save your sorry butts but nobody notices me."

"Hey, don't drag Y/n into this." Ben retorted. "I'm the one who was showboating while he escaped the scene."

"In which is the most logical action." Y/n added. "Avoiding attention will make our hero job more easier in the near future, Ben. Trust me."

"You're the pro. Who am I to argue?"

"The only reason the two of you are a big hero is because of those watches!" Gwen pointed at the mentioned device. "If I find it instead of neither of you, I'll be getting all the attention and all the cool souvenirs!"

Gwen looked out to the window with a frown, making the watch wielders felt guilty for her not being recognized for her good deeds.

"Got any ideas to make her feel better, Ben?" Y/n whispered. "I'm kinda busy sketching the magician freak."

Ben gave Y/n the eyebrow before an idea came up. He reached the souvenir box he and Y/n used every time they went hero. In there, he took out the previous keystone.

"Here Gwen." Ben offered, catching Gwen off guard. "A gift for your help."

"Really?" Gwen smiled.

"Yeah, I got tons of other stuff."

Gwen took the keystone from Ben's hand.

"Gwen, don't you have something to say to Ben?" Max said while driving.

"You know this doesn't change the fact that you just plain lucky." Gwen remarked at Ben. "But thanks."

"You're welcome." Ben replied.

"Gwen find the Omnitrix, huh?" Y/n muttered with interest as he's tapping his pen on his chin.

Then, he opened a new empty page on his journal and wrote a title on it.

"Multiverse..." Y/n grinned.

Later, the gangs is inside a restaurant to have dinner. Ben was about to get the last crawfish, but Gwen swatted his fork away from his hand. Not long after that, a trolley carrying a bowl of living crawfish came out from the kitchen. It rolled its way toward the gangs' table and sent the bowl flying toward Ben. Before it could even landed on him, Y/n kicked Ben down away and the bowl fell on the floor.

"Now, that's a waste." Ben commented. "Wonder how that happened?"

Following his instinct, Y/n gazed at Gwen who ate the last crawfish. He noticed the keystone around her neck glowed for moment.

After the dinner, they all decided to have a night walk, passing through shopping stalls.

"Thanks for saving me back there." Ben said to Y/n. "How did you know it'll fall right at me?"

"Animal instinct, I guess." Y/n said unsurely. "The Nemetrix really going to turn me into a predator."

Ben chuckled. "Let's hope you're not turning into a dog or something."

"Ha, ha. Very funny."

Suddenly, three thugs stole an old woman's purse. Max stopped them, only to be threatened with a metal rod. Both Ben and Y/n hid behind a food cart, trying to use their watches. Failing on his attempt, Ben decided to fight without his transformation. He shoved Gwen away, resulting her to knock down a street performer on a unicycle who juggling bowling pin.

The unicycle that was use by the performer flew toward one of the thugs while the bowling pins hit the one who is holding a metal rod, making him dizzy. Using the opportunity, Max grabbed hold the one who was threatening him.

The last one approached Ben. Gwen decided to help, unintentionally sprayed a mustard at a food court's owner. The man then accidentally kicked his food cart at the last thug, knocking him down.

After awhile, the old lady arrived with a police officer, claiming that Gwen is a hero.

Y/n who was watching the entire scenario from a distance is flabbergasted. He then noticed that the talisman on Gwen's neck glowed for a moment again.

The next morning, Gwen doing a trick shot with a basketball. She tossed the ball backward, sending it to an Rv, hitting its tent that bounced the ball to a power pole before it rolled down the cable. And finally, the ball scored into the net.

"Okay, weird. Definitely not playing horse." Ben commented after picking the ball.

"Gimme the ball." Gwen demanded but Ben refused.

"Not until you tell me how you did that."

"What can I say? I'm charmed." Gwen shrugged before she held the talisman. "It's like every time it glows, everything just goes my ways."

"At what cost?"

The Tennyson cousins turned to see Y/n leaning on the Rv with his arms crossed.

"That thing may bring you luck but not those around you." Y/n stated, earning a glare from Gwen.

"What do you mean?"

"I saw the entire scenario last night. By giving you luck, you harm others." Y/n clarified.

Gwen scoffed. "Is that your way of saying that you're jealous?"

"Excuse me?" Y/n glared her.

"You heard me!" Gwen stomped her way to the Nemetrix's wielder. "Just because you have that watch and do the hero work better than Ben, doesn't mean you can lecture me!"

"Hey!"

"Okay, settle down, now!" Ben went between them. "Gwen, Y/n was trying to help."

"If he was, then tell your friend to get off my back!" Gwen growled.

The Rv door opened, revealing Max who just woke from his sleep. Then, an explosion from a construction site nearby caught their attention.

"Ben, go help the one in the truck!" Y/n instructed. "I'll get the one on the scaffolding!"

"Got it!"

The two activated their watches and transformed in sync. Ben turned into Wildmutt while Y/n turned into Tyrannopede.

As the two aliens went to save the construction workers, Gwen ran back to the Rv and returned a moment later after donning her hero outfit.

"Gwen?" Max confused.

"It's Lucky girl, Grandpa." Lucky girl corrected.

As the two alien were about to save the workers, Lucky girl jumped onto some boards and sent it flying toward a wrecking ball crane in which cause a chain reaction.

While the constructions workers are saved, Wildmutt was thrown into a cement truck and Tyrannopede got a broken leg from a flying steel bar.

As the two alien heroes suffered Lucky girl's actions, she is being surrounded by reporters and photographer, getting all the praises and credits.

After the two went back to normal, Ben quickly helped Y/n and escorted him to the Rv. Then, after awhile, Gwen returned with a glee.

"Woo! Now that's what I call a rescue!" She cheered.

"No thanks to you!"

She turned to Ben's snarled and found him at the back of the Rv with Max and Y/n whose leg being wrapped with bandage.

"W-what happened?!" Gwen rushed at Y/n worries before her talisman snatched away by the Nemetrix's wielder. "Hey!"

"This, is the reason why I became like this!" Y/n growled. "Because of this, Ben got dumped into a cement and my leg broken! Tell me Gwen, who else are you going to kill just to become popular?!"

"Okay, settle down." Max stopped Y/n.

"B-but-"

Ben went between his cousin and best friend and glared at Gwen.

"You're smarter than me, I admitted it." Ben said. "Because of that, you should be better than me being a hero."

Gwen looked down in guilt. "I'm sorry."

"You want sorry?" Y/n hissed before he tossed the keystone below her feet. "Find its origin."

Gwen picked up the keystone and caressed it, still with a guilty looks.

"Being hero is not about fame, Gwen. It's about saving life." Y/n quoted.

Gwen nodded in acknowledgement.

The gangs returned to the road. Gwen is researching the keystone's origins, Ben leaning on a stove while holding Lucky girl's mask, and Y/n is on the bed while reading his journal to kill the boredom.

"I crossed reference the Arkamada book of spells with dark magical charms and look, it's part of the charm of Bezzel." Gwen displayed six keystones on her computer to Ben. "This charm that I'm holding is luck. There's also for fire, levitation, reincarnation.."

"Whoa..." Ben voiced out his amazement. "Those are the charms Mr. Freak at the museum wearing when I went Xlr8 and kicked his butt."

"No wonder that guy wanted the book of spells." Y/n commented.

"But it says, all the charms must be use for the spell to be at its full power." Gwen added. "Oh well, his lost is my gain."

"No."

The Tennyson cousins turned to Y/n.

"Those things are better be destroyed." Y/n advice. "We don't know what kind of power it holds."

"What!?" Gwen exclaimed.

"Y/n is right, Gwen." Max added. "Its power is beyond us."

"That goes for their watches! And yet, they able to use it!"

"That's because this watches are stuck with us, unlike those charms." Ben reasoned. "Gwen, from what I learned from Y/n, this charms doesn't make you a hero."

Gwen surprised to hear a word of wisdom from Ben of all people. Doing hero works with Y/n clearly made Ben more mature.

"And in the news of the weird, reports are coming in that the city's fame Haunted History Mansion has come alive, trapping dozen of visitors inside." The news reporter from the radio reported, catching their attentions.

"Grandpa!" The cousins exclaimed.

"On it." Max complied.

Once at the mansion, the Tennysons rushed inside while Y/n stayed in the Rv since he's unable to move. And after a couple of hours, they all returned.

Then, they went back to the road as the cousins telling Y/n the details of their action.

"Seriously, what's up with villains and destroying things?" Y/n commented.

"Meh, who cares?" Ben shrugged. "As long their butts got kicked."

The three shared a laugh.

"Shame that I have to destroy those charms." Gwen smiled weakly.

"You did the right thing, Gwen." Y/n reassured. "And who knows? You might actually have a magical power for a change."

Gwen raised an eyebrow. "You think so?"

Y/n shrugged. "Just a hunch."
