Red String To You

Fluff 🌺

Narrator pov

On everyone's 18th birthday a red string appears on their pinky. The closer to your soulmate the tighter the string feels.

Rare occasions occur when the string doesn't show. You feel a tug on the finger but can't see it.

But not seeing this string can also mean that the soulmate has given up on you. Such as never wanting to love or doesn't want y.o.u.

These strings don't even have to connect to someone you've met. But the rumor is if you don't find your soulmate in time you die from a broken heart.

Bakugou's pov

Today is my 18th birthday, lots of people think it's a special day or important. It's somewhat special but also useless.

You could get a soulmate that you've never even talked to. Don't get me wrong but if my soulmate is on the other side of the Earth I'm not going for them.

But the issue is that my soulmate not know I'm their soulmate. They could be younger and still not know while I know.

I sighed and got out of bed getting ready for the day. The only thing is I hope my soulmate isn't Deku.

"Happy birthday Bakubro!"

"I wish you didn't know my birthday."

"Why?"

"Because you would probably plan something just because it's my birthday."

"Well if you want to-"

"No!"

I started pushing and shoving to get to the classroom. So many people stand outside our classroom for anyone's birthday. I guess I'm unlucky today.

Sliding the door was difficult with everyone pushing against it. I finally managed and quickly shut it behind me. Kirishima will have to find another place to enter.

"You're here early." A monotone voice said

"Didn't expect you to be here either Icyhot."

"I'm usually here early."

"Why is there a box of chocolates on my desk!?" I stomped over to my desk

"You think I know why?"

"You're the only one that's in here!"

"So? That doesn't mean I did that."

I felt a tug on my pinky and I gulped. I looked down at my pinky and realized it connects to half n half.

"Do you know your soulmate yet?"

"No, why?"

"I have mine."

"Well it's probably the person who got you the chocolates."

"Why do you think that?"

"Because almost everyone already knows their soulmate." He shrugs

"How do I know you aren't lying?"

"You can literally see that there is no string on my hand. Either my soulmate gave up on me or I just don't have one."

"So you'll die of a broken heart."

"I'm just out running the clock right now."

Having a normal conversation like this is surprising. He's calming but also at any moment dead. Which is a bad feeling knowing that.

I sat in the desk next to him. He glanced over at me but continued looking at his phone.

"Are you really not going to look for them?"

"They probably know since I didn't give up on them."

"What if they never gave up and yours is really just invisible?"

"Then I would still think they would come and find me."

I got up and grabbed the box of chocolates on my desk. He looked at me like I was crazy when I was handing them to him.

"Why are you giving me these?"

"You deserve them."

"Why?"

"Because I found you."

"Wouldn't you deserve them than?" His eyes lit up

"It wasn't very difficult so keep them."

"But I never made these for you in the first place-"

"Shoto it's obvious that you did."

"I didn't do anything!" He pouted

"Your hands are scratched and rough it's obvious you tried but don't know how to cook."

He rolled his eyes and looked out the window. I placed the chocolates on his desk and sat in my seat.

People started walking into the room and Kirishima was never found. He was probably thinking of a way to bribe me to do something.

"We should hang out later tonight!" Kirishima exclaimed

"I'd rather be alone."

"Why?"

"Because I know what you're trying to do."

"Which is?"

"Taking me to a party."

"Well it'll be fun!"

"Do you know who is going?"

"Mina, Sero, Denki, Todoroki-"

"I'll go! But only this one time"

"Perfect."

Kirishima left the hallway and I closed my locker. Looking around trying to find a specific someone.

Suddenly a red and white head of hair caught my attention. My legs hurried over to him.

"You going to the party later?"

"Yeah, I might get there a bit late though."

"Why?"

"My father is pretty strict."

"Well when you come we should hang out."

He nods and closes his locker walking away. I hurried after him but lost him due to the crowds.

"Shoto doesn't have a string." I said swirling the alcohol in my drink

"How do you know?"

"Because he's my soulmate but he doesn't know."

"So did you tell him?"

"I tried, I don't know if he understood."

Todoroki walked into the kitchen and sat on a stool. He seemed like he felt out of place.

"Want a drink?" Denki asked

"Do you have anything non-alcoholic?"

"Does it look like we do?"

"Seems like you're all addicted."

"Addicted to fun?" Sero asked

"Addicted to pills?" Denki asked

"Addicted to being dumb." Shoto said

Grabbing my cup and standing up I left the room. Leaving the house and sitting on the porch steps.

"Why did you leave?" Todoroki sat next to me

"Needed air I guess."

"You thinking about something?"

"Somewhat." I shrugged

"What is it?"

"We're soulmates and we have nothing in common."

"How do you know we have nothing in common?"

"Because we're complete opposites."

"Opposites attract don't they?"

He smiled brightly and for a moment everything stopped. Those eyes shined brightly in the moonlight.

This is what fate is truly like.
