Chapter Three

Song: Heaven by PVRIS

I wake up to the sun filling the room and birds chirping outside. I'm warm and cozily enjoying this peaceful moment before my brain reminds me of the events of yesterday. I found out that werewolves exist. And I was kidnapped. And I have a crazy werewolf named Alpha who thinks I'm his 'mate'.

My head is squished up against something warm and comfy. I snuggle into it and it moves. I jump back realizing it's that weirdo Alpha guy. His black hair is messy from sleep and he has a 5'oclock shadow growing. The scars marring his face seem insignificant to his beauty.

"Sorry for waking you, love." I ignore how good his voice sounds when he's sleepy.

"Take me home," I demand.

"Sorry, but I can't do that, love. You're my mate so we can't be apart for long periods of time. And you now know classified information about this pack." His words inspire furry in me and push myself up onto my elbow, facing him.

"First of all, Alpha, I'm not your 'love'. Secondly, I hope you know that kidnap is a highly illegal offense. By now the police are looking for me. If you let me go I might reconsider pressing charges." When I'm done he bursts out in fits of laughter. Frustrated that my attempt to scare him failed I try to jump out of the bed but he grabs my arm and pulls me to him.

"Only pack members call me Alpha. I'm Axel to you. And werewolves have been avoiding law enforcement for decades, love." He obviously is set on keeping me here so I decided to try to get on his good side. It will be easier to escape if I have his trust.

"You told me you would explain everything to me after I get some sleep," I say.

"I'll tell you over breakfast. Let's get dressed for now. A pack member left some clothes for you in the bathroom." We get up and got to the bathroom to get ready. It's brushing my teeth next to the guy who kidnapped me. Luckily he gives me privacy while I finally dress in some clothes that fit me. Some black leggings, a plain gray hoody, and my boots. When I'm done I enter the bedroom just when there's a knock on the door.

"That's the breakfast." Axel, now dressed, says. He opens the door and a girl with short brown hair and brown eyes enters with a cart filled with amazingly smelling food.

"Alpha, Luna. Your breakfast." She quickly nods at us and leaves.

"Luna?" I ask.

"Sit, I'll explain everything." We sit on the bed and pick up our tray of food. I cringe when I see the bacon and eggs.

"I'm vegan," I say pushing the tray away. Axel's eyebrows raise in surprise.

"Seriously?" He asks.

"Yeah. I'm not a breakfast person anyway."

"No, Lisa says you need to eat. I'll ask for another tray." He says.

"For now explain this whole kidnapper werewolf thing. I've waited long enough." I say.

"Well, you already know that we're werewolves. Some call us shapeshifters and skinwalkers. What you saw in the woods yesterday was Lee and Sebastion attacking a rogue. Lee, the black haired one is my beta and Seb is his brother. Rogues are wolves who have no pack. Most of them have grown insane from isolation." I shiver when I remember the crazed eyes of the rogue wolf.

"We're not the only form of shapeshifter. There are the animagus and kitsune."

"Are there vampires?" I ask, intrigued.

"Yes, love, there are vampires."

"Cool," I whisper, imaging a real-life Edward Cullen.

"I am the Alpha of the pack which means I lead the pack and make decisions. You are the luna since you are my mate. The beta trains the pack warriors. You're my mate which means the gods destines us to be soulmates. We are connected to each other through the mate bond."

"Like when Jacob imprinted on Renesmee," I say with wonder.

"Please tell me that's not a Twilight reference." He says with a smirk.

"I'm kind of a fan so expect to hear a lot of them." There is a knock on the door and the same girl from before comes in with another tray.

"I-I'm so sorry, Luna. If I had known you were vegan I wouldn't have served you that." She stutters.

"It's fine. That happens a lot. Thank you for the food. And you can call Maebry." I say handing her my other plate.

"Thank you Maebry," She says, then leaves.

"Maebry. You have a beautiful name." Axel says softly. My heart flutters but then I remind myself that this guy kidnapped me.

"Thank you," I whisper.

"Well, that's enough werewolf history for today. We have a lot to do today. I'll introduce you to Faye and she will take you to get some clothes. I'll be working in my office for most of the day. If you need anything Faye will bring you to me." With that, we bring our trays downstairs to the kitchen. I notice people lingering around. I wish they at least not make it obvious that they were starring. Some simply have looks of curiosity on their face and others have looks of distrust, anger, and even jealousy. As we pass them I hear short snippets of their conversations.

"...is she his mate?"

"Why would she be with someone with a face like that."

"He deserves better."

"She's a human."

I was surprised that they were even talking about Axel's scars. He may be my kidnapper but It's still rude to mentions someone's scars. Axel had to hear this but he just ignored it. We put our dishes away and we went back upstairs where he knocked on someone's door.

"Comming!" A feminine voice yelled from the other side. There was a lot of commotion and then the door was opened. There stood a girl who was about five inches taller than my 5'2 frame. She had beautiful umber brown skin and almond-shaped brown eyes. Her cheekbones were highlighted a golden color and her hair hung down her back in black waves. She wore a juniper green skin tight tee and ripped jeans.

"You must be Maebry! I've heard so much about you!" She squealed. Then to my surprise, she wrapped her arms around me and squeezed the life out of me.

"Faye you're hurting her," Axel warned. The girl finally put me down.

"Sorry, I'm just so excited. Its been so long since I've talked to another human." She explained.

"You're human," I asked, surprised.

"Yeah, I've been mated to Lee for three years." I wonder if he kidnapped her too.

"Faye here is going to take you shopping while I have work to do," Axel said before leaving us.

"This is going to be so fun! I'll go get my bag,"

After Faye got her bag we headed outside and out of the guarded gate. I belatedly thought this was going to be my chance to escape until I saw Lee, the black haired guy who helped kidnap me, leaning against a large black Jeep.

"I hope you don't mind. Alpha wanted him to make sure you didn't escape." I want to stomp my foot in frustration but for some reason, I don't want to disappoint Faye.

"It's fine." I lie.

"Don't worry, our shopping will bore him to death." With that, Faye runs up to him and into his arms. He swings her around and gives her a kiss. I wonder if that's the same scary guy from yesterday because he really looks like he loves her. We both get in the backseat and Lee drives.

The whole way there Faye sings to every single song on the radio. I wish I could say she sounded good but by the time we got to the huge mall my ears were hurting. I kind of feel bad for Lee who has to deal with this every day. Lee looks bored to death while Faye and I shop but it's kind of sweet how he's amazed every time Faye walks out of the dressing room in something new. To tell the truth I kind of envy their relationship.

By the time we leave, we have dozens of bags filled with clothes (most of which Lee carries) and it's already evening. I kind of feel bad because all this must cost a fortune but Faye reassures me that Axel can afford it. Then again, if he can't, it serves him right for kidnapping me. Plus, I'm not the type of girl who turns down a free shopping spree.

When we make to the pack house I'm famished and my feet are killing me. I take a shower and change into the matching champagne colored silk pajama set Faye and I got. Faye and I go to a huge living room with a large comfy sofa, huge flatscreen TV, and a PS4 complete with a bunch of games. Maybe this whole kidnapped thing isn't that bad. Too bad I have to escape.

"This place is awesome," I tell Faye.

"I know right! When Lee brought me here I couldn't help but be amazed." She says.

"Don't you ever miss home?" I ask thinking about Elliot. My best friend is worth more than all the huge mansions in the whole world combined and my heart hurts whenever I think about him.

"You know, my situation was kind of similar to yours. I met Lee three years ago and we dated for a week before went all caveman on me and took me from my home. I was sad being away from my family and friends but after getting to know him I convinced him to stop being so protective. I'm sure Axel will listen to you if you really talk to him. He just doesn't want to lose you." Faye finishes it off by squeezing my hand. I consider what she says but I don't have the time to wait around and convince Axel to let me go. I'm not going to live my life on Axel's terms, mate or not. He had no right to take me from everything I love. I do wish we had met under different circumstances because he's a nice guy I could have liked him if he wasn't my kidnapper.

"Faye, I understand that you like it here with your mate but I need to go home. My best friend, Elliot, has been there for me through my worst times and I'm not going to repay him by worrying him sick. I have a job and I have friends and I have a life outside of this place." I tell her.

"I understand Mae, and if there's anything I can do to help you don't hesitate to let me know." She says. I turn to her and grasps her hands.

"There is. Help me escape." I tell her.

"You know I can't do that. You're the Alpha's mate," She says.

"I'm also the Luna, right. That means I get to make the decisions too."

"That's true," She concedes. "But it's nearly impossible to escape."

"We'll find a way. Wouldn't you have wanted someone to do the same for you." I plead. She mulls over this for a while before giving me her answer.

"Lee's gonna kill me for this," She gives in. I squeal and clap my hands together before pulling her in a tight hug.

"You won't regret this! We need to make an escape plan," I tell her.

"Let's go somewhere more private in case someone is listening." We go upstairs into her room and Faye closes the door behind her.

"Okay, here's the deal. We have a short period of time when the security is lax enough to pull this off. Between 11:45 pm and 12:00 am Lee takes over guard duty. I'm going to use our mate bound to distract him. I'll give you a signal when It's time to leave. Do you have someone who can wait for you around that time." She asks.

"Elliot will come, no questions."

"Call him tonight. Have him wait at the forest line. If crosses onto our territory they'll know. You'll have to be fast because you have about fifteen minutes to run all the way over there."

"What about Axel?" I ask.

"You're going to tell Lisa that your having trouble sleeping and she's going to give you some sleeping pills. Convince Axel to come to bed early and have a glass of wine with you. Slip the pills in while he's not looking."

"This is actually a really good plan," I tell her.

"Well, I spent a lot of time theorizing before I decided to stay here."

"You're the only thing I'll miss about this place," I pull her into a tight hug.

"I'll miss you too. It's already 10:00 pm so go get those pills from Lisa, honey."

We exchange our goodbyes and I walk upstairs to Lisa's office. It's easy to convince her and I'm out of her office in five minutes.

"Axel?" I call out while tapping on his door.

"Come in, love," He yells back. I open the door and reveal Axel at his desk. His office is very neat with dark brown wood floors, high ceilings, and loads of bookcases. I walk over to him and sit in the chair opposite to him.

"What can I do for you, honey," he asks sweetly. I feel bad about the lies i'm about to tell him.

"I'm really bored here. There's absolutely nothing to do." I say waiting for lightning to strike me.

"Faye isn't keeping you company?" He asks.

"I want to spend some time with you. You're my mate after all and I hardly know anything about you." I give him my phony explanation.

"I guess this work can wait. Anything for my beautiful mate." I almost cringe at his niceness. The least he can do is be rude so I don't feel so guilty.

Axel makes a few phone calls and we head to our room.

"How about you open a bottle of wine," I tell him once we settle down on the bed. I leave out that I'm a year under the legal drinking age.

"I'll mind link someone," he says.

"Mind link?" I ask.

"Werewolves have the ability to contact each other through the mind.

"Can you mind link me?" I ask in amazement.

"Only when we complete the mate bond." Before I can ask what that means someone knocks at the door. The same girl from before walks in and gives a bottle of expensive wine and two crystal glasses. She pours us each a drink and leaves.

"Can you turn on the heater. It's a little chilly." I ask nervously.

"Of course." He says. When he's far away I drop the two little pills in his drink.

"So, what would you like to know?" He asks when he gets back.

"What are you like? What's it like being alpha?" I ask him. I don't ask about his scars because I don't want to be rude.

For the next hour, he tells me everything there is to know about him. He's been the Alpha since he was seventeen. Sometime's it's stressful but he's grateful he gets to lead his pack I learn that he loves to read old literature and he has a wonderful sense of humor. I feel so terrible about betraying his trust tonight. If only we hadn't met each this way. I could've really liked him...maybe I already do. But I have a life to live and I won't just throw it away for him.

Soon his eyes get drowsy and his words start to slur. When his eyes close I wait ten minutes before leaning over and grabbing his phone from the bedside table. I use his thumbprint to open it and slip out of bed and into the bathroom. There I type the familiar numbers into the keypad. The line rings for five heart-wrenching seconds, then the familiar voice answers.

"...Maebry," Elliot's relieved voice says.
