8 | Awkward Silence

Hands clasp together, allowing the bridge of the nose to rest against them. Slow, steady breaths fan across the thumbs, resting against the lips. Their eyes are closed, and their breathing works to keep itself steady, as the brain works to process the information.

"Say that-" The owner's eyes open, moving so their chin is resting on the center of their clasped hands, "say that one more time."

"With the recent reports, it appears the Lee family may have no relation to the student," the informant reiterates.

"Headmaster, sir, if you want us to keep looking, we-"

"No," the Headmaster holds his hand up to stop the other from talking.

"I want you to have our people stop looking there, instead resume the research here," the Headmaster explains, "if they aren't there, then Lee Felix's family must have been here, in our world, the entire time."

"It is way too early for this," Changbin groans as he follows behind Jisung.

"You're the one who said you wanted to eat with me," Jisung defends, "so this is what we have to do."

"We have to get up before the sun rises to eat breakfast?" Changbin raises an eyebrow, though Jisung's back is facing the shorter and he isn't able to see.

"If you want to eat with me, then yes."

Changbin groans once again. He loves his friend, but he can also be unnecessarily stubborn, all of this for one person. Jisung barely leaves his room and takes the long way to his classes in order to avoid Minho, now he is waking up ridiculously early to eat.

Right before the two enter, the cafeteria Changbin grabs Jisung's arm, stopping him at the entrance.

"Look, I get that you're hurting, I really do, but at some point, you are going to have to talk to him."

Jisung looks down, doing his best to avoid eye contact with his friend. He isn't in the right head space to admit he is right quite yet, a few more days of sulking then maybe he will finally swallow his pride.

"It's easier to avoid problems than it is to face them," Jisung responds, "so that's what I'm doing, at least for now."

Before Changbin can speak, Jisung pulls him into the cafeteria, dragging him over so they can grab some food, and so Jisung can avoid this conversation. Changbin rolls his eyes, but gives is to the younger. He'll drop it, for now, but later Jisung is going to have to face this whether he wants to or not.

It's too early to be eating anything big, so Changbin sticks with a small yogurt with granola and fruit. Jisung finishes grabbing his own breakfast and tries to lead his friend over to a table, but Changbin places a hand on his shoulder to stop him.

"Why don't we sit with Felix?" Changbin questions, a little surprised that he hadn't spotted the other male sooner.

Jisung shakes his head, "I've tried, and he isn't exactly the most social person."

Changbin furrows his brow. Sure, he may have seemed a little shy last night, but considering what happened, that's normal. Other than that, Changbin was able to converse with the other just fine.

"Well did you approach him acting like yourself or did you dial it down for the boy?"

"What is that supposed to mean?" Jisung feigns offense.

"Nothing, let's just go sit with him," Changbin says, already starting to walk over to the orange-haired male's table. Jisung follows, albeit reluctantly.

"You're just as strange as Jisung," Changbin jokes, as he takes a seat across from Felix, who was busy writing something in a notebook.

Felix looks up from his work, a smile on his face from hearing the familiar voice. It still baffles him that Changbin is managing to do that, but he is choosing to ignore it and enjoy.

Changbin and Felix are soon joined at the table by Jisung, who still feels awkward about this since he has already attempted talking to the new student and failed. Now instead of him looking wide-eyed and nervous, he is smiling at Changbin as though he is the most important thing in the world, and Jisung isn't sure he enjoys this any more than he did their first encounter.

"I know why Jisung is doing this, but what is it about early morning breakfast that has you drawn to it?" Changbin asks, teasing both Jisung and Felix.

Jisung glares at his friend, before starting on his breakfast. Felix, however, is trying to think of a suitable answer. He could say the truth and tell them about how he is pretty sure his roommates hate him so he does what he can to avoid them, or he could go with the classic, 'I couldn't sleep' and leave it at that.

Though he and Changbin had a nice conversation last night and talked for a while, Felix wouldn't say that he knows him well enough to let him in on his life problems. Even if he did know him, he shouldn't be doing that anyway. He doesn't need anything or anyone to convince him to stay here, he has a plan and Felix wants to stick with it. So, the orange-haired male settles, explaining how he was already up and hungry so as soon as breakfast opened he wandered down to grab something to eat. Changbin seemed to believe it and left it at that.

Conversation at the table is kept light and mainly kept Changbin in the center so the other two aren't really talking to each other. It wasn't exactly intentional, but Jisung felt like he shouldn't say anything since last time he tried and Felix didn't seem to like it. While Felix believes that Jisung doesn't want to talk to him so in return he isn't forcing him into a conversation.

The three eventually clean up from breakfast and make their way out of the cafeteria, getting ready to part ways.

"Oh wait!" Changbin calls out to the orange-haired male, "some friends of ours are planning on hanging out tomorrow out by the training fields, I'd like it if you'd come."

Felix thinks on it for a minute, the thought of spending more time with Changbin, someone who actually likes him, is nice. However, there will be other people there, which happen to make the offer less inviting.

"Um..." Felix's teeth sink into his bottom lip, contemplating Changbin's question.

"I mean it could be a part of you repaying me for, you know, hitting me with a door," Changbin adds, jokingly. He wouldn't want to force the other into anything, but he also would really like it if he'd come.

"I'll think about it," Felix says. It's not exactly the answer Changbin was wanting but he isn't going to complain since it is not a definite 'no.'

Changbin and Jisung head back to the dorms, planning on hanging out in the younger's dorm room since he refuses to leave unless it is for food. There are many things that need to be addressed there, but Changbin has already nailed the hammer so far into the bored, that it is impossible for Jisung to not understand the issues with how he is choosing to approach his problems.

Felix on the other hand, heads in a different direction, knowing his roommates are still back at their dorm, he chooses to go and find a place where he can be alone and not feel judged.

Hyunjin has just finished his breakfast, breaking away from Seungmin and Jeongin to go to the library and find a book he needs for a paper. The Enchanter has a few weeks to work on it, but he would like to have all his research material with him so he can get started on it right when he is feeling motivated. Seungmin and Jeongin would have come with him if they didn't have their own homework assignments to do, so instead, they went back to their dorm.

Luckily, Daesung gave his class all the information they needed for this, so Hyunjin knows exactly what books will give him the information he needs to write a well-crafted essay that will hopefully score high. The search isn't difficult, the library having an incredibly well-organized system that makes everything incredibly easy to find. In a few short minutes, Hyunjin has grabbed three books to help him with his paper.

Making his way to the bottom floor, Hyunjin plans on heading straight to his room, when someone with fluffy orange hair catches his eye. He is on the third floor of the library, tucked into a corner of two bookshelves, writing something in a notebook. His roommate hasn't shown much interest in interacting with people, but Hyunjin presumes that's because of Chan and Sunwoo who act like Felix is an alien when they are all in the dorm.

Since it would only be the two of them, Hyunjin would be curious if he'd be slightly more open to talking. It is sort of a heavy debate going on in his head, on one hand trying and succeeding would make him very happy, but if Felix is just as cold and distance when it just them, then Hyunjin may feel unnecessarily hurt.

Damn it! Why does Jeongin have to be right about everything?

He likes people and that isn't a bad thing, he has a soft heart and cares deeply for others. The only downside is he does tend to fall for someone quite easily and he doesn't have to know them that well for it to happen. It happens to be a gift, as well as, a curse.

Hyunjin looks over the edge of the railing, peering over to the exit before looking back over to the orange-haired boy.

"Screw it," Hyunjin mumbles under his breath, taking determined steps towards his roommate. Felix notices Hyunjin approach him, so he looks up from his notebook with a small smile on his face.

"Hi," Hyunjin greets, smiling and giving a small wave.

"H-hi," Felix breathes out, looking up at the standing male.

Hyunjin stands there, smiling at the shorter male, trying to sense if the other is feeling any sort of discomfort before he continues any interaction. It is hard to tell with Felix, he is smiling and looks relaxed, but his speech gives off a different vibe and Hyunjin can't be sure which one he should trust. Hyunjin opens his mouth to speak, but pauses. As if a wave of panic has washed over him, he is left speechless.

All his confidence he had before, if any, has been wiped away and now he is standing in front of the insanely beautiful boy looking like a fool. Hyunjin can be very shy, but he is good at talking to people, especially when he has already had the incentive to talk to them. However, now is a different case, where he was motivated for a second, and in the next, it was completely wiped away.

"Bye," Hyunjin awkwardly states, turning around and shuffling away. Though he hates himself for doing that, he isn't sure whether that was worse or if standing there and not saying anything would be weirder. Hyunjin doesn't want to find out, so he hurries out of the library and moves as far away from the door as he can before he stops to take a breath.

His mind plays over what happened in the library before he clutches his hair and tugs at it.

How am I so unbelievably stupid? Felix probably thinks I hate him or something!

Hyunjin wants to go back in there and apologize, but he's afraid he might say something to make everything worse, and he doesn't need that in his life. Huffing out another breath Hyunjin moves on, deciding to go hide in Seungmin's dorm for the rest of the day so he won't have any more embarrassing encounters with Felix.

Why did my brain choose today, of all days, to act like a complete and utter dumbass?

~•~

Felix Isn't sure what just happened since Hyunjin has never just randomly walked out on him before, but maybe it's karma for all the times Felix has been distance and cold with the male when all he was trying to do was be friends with him. Now Felix feels bad, he doesn't have anything against Hyunjin, in fact, he is the only one of his roommates that seems to put any effort into knowing Felix before they start judging or hating him when his other two seemed to skip straight to hating him.

Over the week he has been here, Hyunjin has been nothing but kind to him and Felix has only pushed him aside. Though he can partially blame it on the fact, his focus is to get out of this place and he doesn't intend on creating any solid connections, it can't be his excuse for being rude to the other.

Maybe I should talk to him, Felix thinks. It wouldn't be a horrible idea, but it does sort of defeat the purpose of keeping low and leaving this place with no connections. He has a plan and he needs to stick to it.
