Chapter Ten

Y/n held on to James' hand as Hank led the group. He led them to the dock.

"We were this close to getting it working," he explained. "Me and Gunpei were gonna take off for the open sea, try to get home. That's when one of them things got him."

"Where's this thing you were trying to get working?" Y/n asked. Hank smiled.

"There she is," There, a rusted boat floated. It was made completely out of plane parts.

"Well, that's lovely," James and Y/n said.

"You're dang right," Hank replied. He boarded the boat, Y/n following behind and dragging James with her.

"Does this thing even float?" Silvio asked, leaning against the post.

"Me and Gunpei spent six years of our lives building this thing," Hank replied, "She's called the Grey Fox. And she floats."

"How did you make this?" Y/n asked. She let go of James' hand.

"Pulled the engine parts from my P-51 and his old Zero," Hank answered. "Found a B-29 on the beach one day. That was something."

"You gotta be kidding me. That thing looks like it's made out of pure tetanus," Victor replied.

"Hey!" Y/n exclaimed. "Don't judge."

"I know she ain't pretty to look at, but it's nothing a couple of extra hands can't fix. Unless you got a better idea, I suggest we get cracking," Hank said.

"All right then," Y/n said, opening up her bag. "I've got wrenches, screwdrivers, and a couple of screws." Everybody looked at her. "What?" She said.

Y/n passed out canned fruits to everyone while they worked. She gave James a smile as she handed him his can.

"Hey Hank," he whispered while Y/n walked off the boat.

"Yes?" Hank whispered back.

"How do you flirt with someone?" Hank gave him a surprised look.

"What do you mean?"

"How. Do. You. Flirt. With. Someone?" James said slowly. Hank replied with a smile.

Y/n returned shortly with little water bottles for everyone. James was giving her a look most men in the bar would give her as she handed him his bottle.

"Um, what's up with your face?" She asked. His response was weirder.

"Do I have a sunburn?" He asked. Y/n furrowed her eyebrows.

"Um, I don't think so?"

"Well I think I do because you're so hot," James said. That caught everyone's attention. Y/n scoffed.

"James, is this heat getting to you?" He just smiled.

"No, but didn't anyone ever tell you that you look so dang fine?" Y/n uncapped the bottle and threw water in his face, drenching his shirt.

"I'm going to go check on Mason," she lied, walking off. Everyone looked at him, smirks on their faces.

Y/n was sitting on the ground of Hank's hut, staring at a bottle of Jim Beam she had in her hand. It was the same bottle from the same day when Randa and Brooks walked in.

"Hopefully this is still good," She lifted it up and put it to her lips when somebody snatched it out of her hands. "Hey! What gives!?"

"I thought drinking was bad for your liver,"James said. y/n scoffed and rolled her eyes.

"One time isn't bad," she replied. "Besides, I needed it to drown out your awful flirting." He chuckled.

"Was it that bad?" He asked. Y/n nodded, smirking. James sat down next her. He placed the bottle on the ground.

"So......." Y/n said, turning her heafvto face him. "Are you almost done with the repairs?"

"Almost," James replied. Y/n smiled.

"Ya need an extra helper?" She asker, leaning in. James looked at her, his blue eyes meeting her e/c ones.

"Yeah, I do," he replied softly. He grabbed Y/n' s chin, bringing her close enough that their lips met. Her heart skipped beats as she felt his soft lips.

For the both of them, kissing was the greatest feeling in the world. Y/n cupped his cheek as their lips moved in sync. James placed his hand on her waist.

"Ahem," Hank cleared his throat. James and Y/n pulled away, their faces red.

"So uh, still need that help?"

"OK, so we've got forty eight hours to make it to the north shore," James explained. Hank had Y/n and James leave his hut to help the others. "Silvio, do you know what you're doing back there?"

"Yeah! My pop's a mechanic," he replied. "If I can't fix this, he'll disown me.... If he ever sees me again."

"I don't like that attitude," Y/n said. "You need to be happy and hopeful 'cause we're getting off this island." She went back to helping Victor screw in some bolts.

"Hold the phone there, Churchill!" Hank exclaimed. Y/n looked up. "Russia was our all. Now your saying we're at war with them?!" Y/n snorted.

"It's more of a cold war really," James replied. Y/n tried to contain her laughter.

"Cold war? Like they take the summers off?" Hank asked. James just stared at him. "What about the Cubs? The Cubs win the world series yet?"

Silvko scoffed, "The Cubs? Man, not even close. Were they ever that good?"

"Happens to be my team," Hank replied. " Where are you from?" He asked.

"Detroit," Silvko replied. Y/n stopped what she was doing and joined the conversation.

"So you're team Tigers?" She asked.

"Ok, whoa. Tigers,"Hank replied. "Did they ever win at all this year?"

"I don't know," Silvko replied.

"I doubt it, yeah," Hank muttered. "I'd pick the Cubies over the Tigers any day."

Y/n asked, "Who'd you think would win in a fight? A cub or a tiger?"

"A tiger."
