This Town

2nd of December 2017

"Are you ready to go?" Harry asked after I had pulled on my black high top converse, in desperate need for a new pair once more, since they were falling apart once again.

"I sure am," I said, taking a quick look at my outfit in the floor length mirror of the living room in the Airbnb that Harry and I were staying in for the next couple of days before we fly to Japan.

I had settled on a seventies style green shirt with yellow and orange flowers patterned on it, tying the front of it into a bow, sitting just above the mid-wash flared denim jeans that I was wearing.

"You look spectacular, as always," Harry said, leaning down to place a soft kiss on my head, a small smile forming on my lips before we left our cottage Airbnb just outside of Auckland, our Uber waiting for us very patiently as we finally climbed into the back of the car, Harry making immediate small talk with the driver.

Harry never addressed what happened between us in the dressing room bathroom at the Melbourne show and because he had not bought it up so far, neither did I. Everything felt normal between us but I was just waiting for him to say something about the other night but he never did.

"Gosh I can't believe you have time off for a couple of days, what are we even going to do?" I asked with a laugh, Harry's hand resting on top of mine where I had placed it in the middle seat of the Uber.

It was a rarity that either of us have time off and it may only be for a few days but I knew that we would definitely be taking advantage of it.

"Sleeping for four days straight sounds like an idea to me."

"An extremely productive use of time Harry," I said sarcastically and he just nodded with a cheeky grin on his face, his soft curls bouncing around his head.

"Well think about all the time we have off after Japan, we won't know what to do with ourselves," Harry stated and I nodded in agreement, a small smile appearing on my lips at the thought of spending almost three full months in Los Angeles with Harry, aside from when we go back to England to spend Christmas with our families.

"Eat sleep rave repeat?" I jokingly suggested, a chuckle leaving Harry's lips as he clearly understand the music reference.

"Sounds like the perfect plan to me," he said with a grin and I smiled at him as we sat in a comfortable silence for the rest of our short drive, our Uber driver and Harry talking about Auckland and where we should head on our days off, Harry noting down some of the suggestions on his phone before we pulled up to the Arena, the driver taking us around the back, Harry handing him a pass to flash to the security guards who let us through to where we could get out of the car safely.

"Thanks mate, I'll look into your suggestions," Harry said as he got out of the Uber, jogging straight inside to get to soundcheck on time.

"Thank you so much," I said softly, giving the man a smile before following Harry and flashing my pass to a different set of security once more, going straight backstage and finding the dressing room with ease, the room unusually quiet as James and Ruby are usually here later as they are never needed for soundcheck.

I made myself comfortable on the black pleather couch that was in the dressing room, pulling my laptop out of my bag and plugging my headphones in, debating whether I wanted to listen to an Australian band called Hockey Dad who I had recently started listening to, or take my usual route of listening to Frank Ocean. I settled on the former.

As much as I enjoy the loud hustle and bustle of people being around me all the time, it was satisfying to be able to reply to client emails and bruise through potential looks for upcoming events that I would be styling clients for, which is always something I have loved doing.

An hour and a half passed when finally Harry and his band appeared back in the dressing room, smiles on all of their faces, with Ruby and James not far behind them with coffees in hand, Ruby handing me a Starbucks coffee, an appreciative smile appearing on my face.

"What's this for?" I asked before taking a sip from the cup, revealing she had got me chai latte which is always something I like to have while working on things.

"You mentioned that you wouldn't be able to hang out today because of work stuff and I know how much you love chai lattes when you are working on things so I took it upon myself to get you one."

"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" I asked with a smile on my face, accepting the drink happily in my hands before taking a sip, being greeted with the smoothness that the chai latte had to offer.

"No, but you can continue to tell me all you want," Ruby laughed as she went to sit with James on the other couch, the spot next to me now occupied by Harry.

"I love you very much Ruby Faye Cook," I said with a grin.

"Don't you forget it girl," she said with a playful glare before taking a sip of her own coffee, which I assumed was her standard flat white that she always gets no matter the time or the weather.

"So what are we doing after the show?" Adam asked, lying on the ground by himself, something he often does before most shows and nobody has ever questioned it.

"Nothing I don't think! Let's go out!" I exclaimed and I felt Harry tense up beside me. "Or not?"

"Anna and I have plans," Harry said and I raised an eyebrow at him, as this was the first I was hearing of this.

"We do?" I asked with a laugh and he nodded with a smile on his face, a light layer of sweat from his soundcheck on his forehead which made his skin slightly glisten.

"Yeah we do, so we aren't coming out," Harry said firmly, placing a hand on my thigh and giving it a gentle squeeze.

"Well we are here for another couple of days so we could always go out another night?" Sarah suggested and everyone murmured in agreement.

"It will be nice to have a decent seep after a show anyway," Clare said from the chair across the room, everyone nodding as it's a rare occasion when we get a good nights sleep after a show, usually having to be up early for a flight the next morning or flying out late after the show.

"What are your plans anyway Styles?" Mitch asked with an inquisitive look on his face, sitting on the ground with his acoustic guitar in his lap as he was probably about to start hyping himself up for the show.

"It's a surprise," Harry replied.

"Oooo I love surprises," I said with a grin, Harry giving me a firm nod with a tight lipped smile, a comfort silence falling over everybody in the room as we all went back to doing our own thing, my fingers starting to finally feel the ache that came along with typing pretty much all day.

Coffees were finished, Jeff and dinner arrived and within the blink of an eye, Harry was on stage and Ruby, James and I were left alone side stage with cups of tea in hand, sitting on one of the numerous large black boxes that were laying around.

"So do you have any idea what Harry's surprise might be?" Ruby asked and I shook my head, my knees tucked up to my chest as I watched Harry intently who was laughing at something that someone had said in the crowd, his smile beautiful accompanied by his sweet dimples that I have always adored.

"Nope, I don't want to know either, I'm excited," I said with a smile, taking a sip of the English breakfast tea that James has made for the three of us to drink, which was a welcome change from the red cups and whatever alcohol we could get our hands on.

"Maybe he is going to propose?" James suggested and I choked on my tea, very ungracefully spiting it back into the grey mug that I was holding.

"Are you insane?!" I spluttered, my eyes wide as I look at him, Ruby looking at him with the exact same expression on her face as James just laughed and shook his head.

"You two are so dramatic," he scoffed and I rolled my eyes at him, Ruby shaking her head in disbelief. "Is it really that absurd that he might propose after one month? I mean, when you know, you know."

"You are ridiculous," I laughed. There is absolutely no way that Harry would propose to me, not in a million years. Neither of us have even discussed the idea of marriage and I am definitely not ready for it, and neither is Harry. Well I don't think he is but he does not strike me as the kind of person who proposes to their partner after one month of dating.

"Now that you mention it James, I could do with going to a wedding, it's been a while," Ruby laughed and I groaned as James cheered in agreement.

"Fuck off the both of you," I laughed, Ruby and James cackling at me as before we all calmed down slightly and went back to watching Harry who was singing 'Only Angel,' a satisfied smirk on his face which usually meant he was feeling himself immensely or the crowd was giving him the energy that he was craving.

We watched out the rest of the concert from our seats on the box, waiting for Harry to do his post-show ritual with the band in the wings of the stage as the three of us went back to the dressing room to make sure everything was good to go for Japan, along with cleaning the small mess that was made by all of us, which usually was never that big of a job but I never liked leaving the dressing rooms messy for the cleaners, as they were probably already busy enough cleaning the concert floor and bathrooms which are always ridiculously dirty after shows.

Harry came out of the bathroom in his beige trousers and a loose white v-neck t-shirt, wearing his white slip on Vans with a nervous look on his face.

"Ready to go sunflower?" he asked.

"Sure am pretty boy."

******************

When Harry and I got back to the Airbnb, it was pitch black outside, the only light being the one from the lone street lamp outside our cottage inspired Airbnb.

"Put this on," Harry said, handing me a piece of black cloth that I assume would double as a blindfold.

"Babe, it's dark as shit out here, why do I need a blindfold?" I laughed, however I took the piece of cloth from him anyway and wrapped it around my eyes, not being able to see anything now.

"Trust me, you need it just for the moment," he said, taking my hand and leading me to the house, instructing me when I was to walk up the white washed front steps, his hand still in mine when he opened the door and told me to stay put in the front foyer as he closed the door.

I was not one for arguing or questions, so I stayed put while I heard rummaging around in the dark, uttering a swear word or two as he did whatever he needed to do.

I smelt the familiar smell of a matches burning, something that I have always weirdly loved because both my parents have always loved having candles lit around the house and I now associate the smell with being at home with my family.

"Can I take off the blindfold now?" I asked with a small laugh, the anticipation of what was about to happen killing me.

"I guess so," Harry chuckled nervously from somewhere across the room.

"You guess so?" I questioned.

"Yes Anna, you can."

I slowly removed the blindfold and I was met with a scene straight out of a fairytale.

"Oh Harry," I sighed gently, my hands coming straight to my mouth in shock. Harry had somehow managed to fill the living room of the Airbnb with my favourite flowers; sunflowers. He had filled the room with small tea light candles and the only other light was that of the small lamp in the corner of the room.

"Anna, my golden girl," Harry began and I just stood at the front of the room absolutely dumbfounded. "Can you please come over here for this," he laughed and I just giggled before carefully hurrying over to where Harry was standing among the sunflowers with a small smile on his face.

"Harry oh my god," I said when I reached him, almost on the verge of tears as I had never seen anything this beautiful before in my life.

"Shhh, my turn to talk darling," he laughed and I nodded firmly before looking up at him with  an admiring wide eye gaze. "It's been lingering on my mind how to tell you this and I know we aren't nor probably ever will be a cheesy, public display of affection couple but you've been an extremely special part of my life now for a number of years so I figured the only way to tell you this was by doing something extremely special just for you as well."

My mind started racing but I kept my gaze on Harry, trying to contain the smile on my face that was breaking out, my cheeks starting to hurt from trying to contain my smile.

"God, you are just so good Anna. You are literally the sunshine. There is nobody else I would rather be doing my life with and even though I took us what feels like a hundred years to actually get here, I know that I've been in love with you since I was nineteen and I know I'll probably always be in love with you."

"Oh Harry," I mumbled as he took my hands in his own with a wide, cheesy smile on his face.

"Oh, I should probably say it properly hey?" Harry questioned and I giggled softly at the normality of our interaction right now. "I love you Anna, always have, always will."

"I love you too Harry, always have, always will," I said gently and in a split second, his lips were on mine and his hands moved from my hands to my face, the coolness of his rings feeling sweet against my cheeks, a feeling I truly adore.

The kiss was slow and tender, Harry moving his lips perfectly with mine, my body arching into his, his torso matching mine like the final piece of the puzzle.

"So pretty," he mumbled against my lips and I sighed softly against his mouth, breaking the kiss so I could admire the room once more.

"How'd you pull this off?" I asked as my eyes scanned the room, looking at all the beautiful sunflowers and candles that he had set up for me.

"Not to be a narcissistic little bitch -"

"You are but go on."

"But I am Harry Styles and people do things if I ask them too."

"Fucking hell you are something else," I laughed, shaking my head at the man who had filled the living room with my favourite flowers just to tell me that he loves me.

"Hey, I would do anything for you let me be."

"Alright, only because I love you."
