Chapter 13

- Callum's Point of View -

Em had told me to wake her up at seven that morning. She said she had something she wanted to do. I thought it somewhat odd since I had known to always be an extreme night owl, rarely getting out of bed before 9:30. It just wasn't her to ask me to do something like that...But I did anyone. I walked up the stairs to her room, fidgeting with the laces on my jerkin. When I got to her room I was about to knock, when I saw a note fastened to the door reading, 'Callum'. I took it off the door, making sure not to rip it, and then opened it. This is what it said:

Okay Callum, don't freak out...But I've gone to Castle Landly to stop Rowan from leaving.
Look, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking I'm an idiot and that I'm pursuing a
hopeless cause....And I probably am, but that's not the point here. You need to stop
and think for a minute. Maybe it was her fault, but that doesn't mean you have to go and
hate her for the rest of your stubborn life. Even if she did kill him you should tell her that
you're willing to give her a second chance...And boy you'd better be.
Yeah I know, it's none of my business, but I've watched my family fall apart and I won't
let it happen to you. At least you have a sister. I was lucky to have my dad come back, but
think of all the kids that didn't. There are millions of kids out there, just longing to have
someone they can call family....And you're throwing that opportunity out the window
and into the ocean where it'll be eaten by a giant shark and then digested over a long
period of time. Do you want that?............I've said all I needed to say. Please just think
about it? I'm begging you. As a friend. Please.....

Love,

        Emma

p.s. In case you haven't figured it out already, I don't need to be woken up...In fact, I
can't believe you fell for that ruse. No way I'd get up at 7:30 a.m. Do you think I'm
crazy?....Anyway, I'll stop talking now.

I slowly folded the letter, placing it in my pocket. I was annoyed, angry, thankful, happy, and grateful, all at the same time. She really knew how to get to a guys conscience. Love, Emma.....Love Emma.....That thought stuck in my head. I couldn't kid myself anymore. I knew it. I've always known it. I just didn't realize it. Time to do something about it.

- Emmalina's Point of View -

There she is, I thought. Hopefully she doesn't spot me. After what happened this morning I got to thinking. Callum had done so much for me and never asked for anything in return. I never did anything to help him, this was my only chance to prove myself, and to bring Callum's only family back. I was sick and tired of doing nothing, of being expected to do nothing. I wanted to change. I wanted to become a better person, no matter how hard it would be. I was deep in thought when I heard a twig snap. I knew it wasn't me, and it definitely wasn't Rowan, she was too experienced for that. Luckily I was out of her line of vision, because she definitely heard it. She swung around and scanned the bushes very carefully, her skilled eyes not missing a thing. Suddenly a rabbit hopped out of a bush and ran across to another tree. Oh, I thought. It was just a rabbit. That seemed to satisfy Rowan as well and she moved on, disappearing out of view. I was about to get up and follow her when a hand reached out and touched my shoulder. I immediately swung around, grabbing the wrist of the hand and pinning it up against the tree behind me and twisted the other arm so that it was very near breaking. That was when I realized....It was Samantha. She looked at me with stunned eyes and I heard Joe's voice come up behind me.

"It's just us, Emma."

I let her go and sighed, sliding down to the base of the tree.

"Don't scare me like that." I said.

"Don't scare you? You practically tore my arm off." Samantha said, defensively.

"Yeah, sorry about that...What are you doing here?"

"I was just about to ask you the same question." Joe told me.

"Well, I'm following Rowan." I answered, looking down at my feet.

"You are? So are we." Samantha said in surprise.

"Why?"

"Well, I felt like something fishy was going on and I wanted to find out. How about you?"

"Um...I can't really explain it right now, but we really need to get going if we're going to follow her."

"Oh yeah, you're right. Come on let's go." Samantha said, slinking off into the underbrush.

- Rowan's Point of View -

I had got to thinking about what Em said. Maybe I was the one who wasn't giving him a chance; but I didn't think he wanted one. He probably wanted me out of his life, more then anything. I didn't blame him...But he never knew the truth. And he never will if I don't....NO! I'm not going back. Not now. I've come this far and there's no turning back.

I was pretty deep into the forest now so I decided to stop and take a rest...up in a tree. I'd learned over the years that if I'm going to take a rest, I need to stay out of sight. I sat there, up in the limbs, just relaxing in the shade, but still keeping my senses strait.

That was when I heard them. Just the quietest thump of a hoof on turf. They were here. They were everywhere...And I was trapped.

- Okay, sorry for the short chapter but I haven't had a lot of time. I hope you liked it and if you did comments and votes are always appreciated. Thanks :D - Anna
