Unlike usual, today was a peaceful day. Aine was clean and clothed before five, and the morning was quiet; no rowdy neighbours, no ranting calls from family, and no sounds of a headboard banging against the wall from the apartment next to her.

Peaceful. Aine often wondered about the meaning of that term. She pondered it now, even as she flipped eggs for her morning breakfast. What was it to be peaceful?
Silence? A lack of silence? No interruptions?

No, Aine decided. Peaceful is when you and your surroundings are content and at ease.

And in a way, Aine was right. There were no slamming doors or yelling from her other neighbours, a straight couple who were obviously not working out. Which, she realized, was probably because the guy was gay.

No. The morning was content. Peaceful.

Smiling as the eggs sizzled, Aine pulled out her phone.

1 missed call.
She didn't even need to guess who it was as she responded with a video call. It answered almost immediately.

"Awnny!" Skygge, Aine's girlfriend, yelled. Aine chuckled at the nickname. Skygge was probably one of the only ones who didn't butcher her name; "awn-ye". It was probably because of this they had even become friends.

"What's up?" Skygge frowned, an exasperated look on her face. "C'mon bunny, it's not like you didn't skip pleasantries either."

Skygge rolled her eyes. "Fine. My family is thinking about buying a new house. Mansion really."

At this Aine's eyes widened. "New house?" Skygge's family, the Brynjolfs, were surprisingly rich, even though they chose to live in an average medium sized house. They already had about fifty vacation homes all over the world, and Aine had already figured they had a house in at least every town; so why would they be looking at another?

Skygge nodded. "It's surprisingly cheap. I think the seller was only asked for around $10,000 for it? And the mouthy price is only around $800." Aine whistled lowly. Skygge nodded once more in response. "We're going to go check it out this Friday, live in it for a few months, see how it goes."

Aine raised a brow, sensing a question. "And so you want me to go with you?" Skygge blushed.

"Yeah, there's something . . . off about that place."

"And you want me to be your guardian in shining armour."

"Something like that. But that mansion has many hidden and unused rooms from the sound of it. . . I figured we could maybe," Skygge paused for effect, "put them to good use~?"

It was Aine's turn to blush. Just the thought of all the naughty things that could happen. . . it sent a shiver up her spine. Skygge could clearly see this, and smirked at her. It wasn't the arrogant kind though; it was the kind of temptress smirk. "Shall I take that as a yes?"

Aine glared at her girlfriend, blushing, but nodded. "What time will you be picking me up?" Skygge tilted her head in consideration.

"I think I'll come get you around 8 o'clock in the evening on Thursday. Plenty of time to get packed, yeah?"

Aine nodded. "Okay then, black bunny, I'll see you then." Skygge smiled and winked.

"See you then Aine."
Aine smiled and hung up. Thursday. . . Wait a minute.

Opening her calendar, she checked the date.
Shit.

Tomorrow was Thursday.

There went the peaceful morning.
