Tuesday 5th September 1939

Thud! Thud! Gilbert was still in bed, wearing a gown he managed to get from Diana's bedroom last night.
"Gilbert, are you awake yet? You are going to be late!" His father screamed.
Shortly after that, his mother screamed from the kitchen,
"What are you doing here?" And the rest was too quiet to hear. Changing as fast as he could, he stuffed the gown underneath his bed and ran to the kitchen.
"Good morning," he said. Somebody with suitcases was sitting at the table with Gilbert's mother and father. The person's navy hat hid their face. Until they took it off. It was a woman.
"What are you doing here?" Gilbert asked, "I missed you so much Diana!" Charging at her for a hug, she dropped her suitcases gently and hugged him back in glee.
"What happened to your hair?" She said,
"He got it cut." His father stated, "Doesn't it make him look more manly?"
"Indeed it does." Diana smiled, "Let's go to your bedroom and catch up. Shall we?" Gilbert nodded.
"Make it quick though because Gilbert needs to go to school." His mother said,
"Please don't make me go!" He screamed.
"You always love school though."
"Let's go." Diana whispered to Gilbert. As they went to his room, Diana sat on the bed.
"Why are you here?" Gilbert said, "Not that I don't like it, it is the greatest day in my life." Diana chuckled.
"Well, if my little brother is in trouble, I'm there." Diana hugged Gilbert.
"You are being too huggy, Diana..."
"Sorry," she continued, "I think I have something that can help your problem."
"How do you know what it is?" Instead of answering, Diana got her navy hat and held it.
"This should help." She handed it over to Gilbert.
"A hat? Maybe it could work... I just don't want them to see my hair."
"Come on, put it on." Doing as he was told, they both went into Diana's room and looked in the mirror.
"I look so... Nice."
"Beautiful" Diana corrected him. "Anyway, you have to get to school."
"Oh yes..."
"Have a nice time... Ginny." Smiling at each other, Gilbert ran into the kitchen and out the door.
"Goodbye!" He screamed.

Walking back to the forest, he did what he did every time and reached for the blue dress in the tree. After changing, Ruby appeared from the bushes.
"Hi Ginny. I love your hat."
"Thank you... Umm, Ruby...Can you keep a secret?" Ginny asked,
"Of course." Should I tell her? She thought. "What is it?"
"Well," she gulped, "I am not who you think I am."
"Umm, Ginny, I don't understand. We have got to go in soon..."
"I'm a boy. And my name is not Ginny." Taking off her hat, it revealed her boy-like hair. Seconds of silence passed by and Ruby still seemed shocked.
"Is this a trick?"
"No." This was a stupid idea. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stup—.
"Why did you lie? You betrayed our friendship!" Ruby said under her breath and then ran inside the school.
"Ruby!" Putting her hat back on, Ginny prayed and prayed that Ruby wasn't lying as well. Maybe she can keep a secret. Everyday, Ginny would sit next to Ruby. Instead, she sat next to Polly and Nancy Horowitz sat next to Ruby. Nancy really despised Ginny. But she was never really bothered by it. But now, Ginny was.
