P R O M : T I M E

21/6/2016, 3:00pm,Prom day.

Ding Dong. The bell rang, as I clasped my handbag tightly, embracing myself for what ever was to happen. I was standing at the front of the porch, my High top- converse shoes constantly tapping against the mahogany floor. I was growing impatient by the second. What's taking her so long?

"MIKEEYYY!" A sharp scream came from the other side of the door. Footsteps rushed in as the door suddenly slammed open. I took two steps back from the sudden force in fear. A large gust of air hit my face, making me look down in the process.

What the hell-

My glare was brought up to meet a girl, same height as mine as we both stared at each other. The expression faded as an idiotic grin made way, both of us embracing each other with all of the energy we had.

We both pulled apart from the hug at the same time, and did our infamous hand-clap-jazz hands-shake yo' booty dance.

Sigh. Only Judie comes up with such insane ideas.

"Time to glow up!" The girl- I mean- My bestfriend, Judie screamed with joy as she escalated through the stairs of her humongous house and guided me to her room.

I entered the house, slamming the door shut as I joined my best friend in her room.

"Is Aunt Elizabeth home?" I asked. I always loved having Judie's mum come over, she was so sweet and polite, In times my mother wasn't.

"Nope dah-ling- she's currently at London" Her fake british accent came through, as I softly nodded my head and entered her room.

Makeup of all sorts were splattered across the mess of a bed. Mascara- eyeshadow- lipstick, you name it , She'll have it!. I knew that she was a makeup junkie, but I didn't know it was this bad!?

My eyes wandered throughout the whole room, up and until i'd caught the eyes of a sinister - looking Judie, who sat grinning on the bed as she waved a crystal studded- curling wand in her hand.

"No way are you going to let that thing get near my hair, uh-uh" I warned the psycho woman as I went back and took hold of the door knob, ready to make a run for it. I had watched too many people burn their hair off from that little- thing, and I sure didn't want to be added to that list.

My grip around the knob tightened, as i looked back to see Judie. Surprisingly, the crazy woman didn't do much,  except for pouting like a lost kitten like I'd caught her from some act.

The last time I fell for that, I got orange juice dumped over my hair. Don't ask me why.

"And you expect to impress Mr.X..how?" She smirked, her eyes twinkling with mischief as she motioned me to sit on a chair.

Dang it. It's no reason why she wins debate club, I exasperated.

I hung my head below my shoulders, defeated as I sat in the chair for 3 hours of agony and torture.

"Tell me why we're doing this again?"

"Duh, For your mystery man of course" She winked, as she continued styling my hair. What a nightmare.

21/6/2016, 6:00pm, Prom night in 2 hours.

Fingers laced around my eyes as I was brought forward to a distance. The silky-loose fabric clung on to my body like a glove and Images of me wearing it roamed round my mind like a drug.

"Judie, what if I look like an oompa-loompa?" I questioned, getting nervous by the second. The thought of having to wear a tight dress did not sink well. Maybe I'd look too fat. Jessica said that as well-Maybe Mr.X would feel disgusted if he were with such a fat ass like me.

The last time i wore one was in 4th grade. It was a pretty cute dress though, with golden ruffles near my hips which according to my younger self, thought that it made me look 'like a pretty fairy'. It would have been the best day of mine- if everyone had stopped calling me a plumpy-womper. What the hell did that even mean!?

"Mikaela, you look gorgeous" She whispered softly, with a hint of pride laced onto her tone as she gradually removed her fingers.

A life-sized reflection came to view from the sudden darkness. I gasped aloud and my eyes grew wide. Am I the girl In the mirror? That can't be right. As far as i remembered, I didn't look anywhere near to this.

My Long brunette hair was beautifully tossed In beach waves, curled to perfection by Juju. My eyes were smoked with a hue of intensity and the red lip carved through my cupid's bow made me look like a goddess.

Let me not get started on the dress.

The red dress was silky and beautiful- with ruffles adorned around the ends of the jewel - hem and my pearl drop earings complimented the entire outfit..

"Omigosh" I whispered back, looking at Judie as she nodded in acceptance of my untold gratitude.

Judie looked extremely elegant too, her silver dress similar to mine, except it had patterns of gold in it. She'd straightened her hair, making her look like a mermaid, fresh out of the sea.

Now the only thing left to do was..

Gulp.

Attend prom.

21/6/2016, 8:00pm, 0 hours till prom

"This is it" Judie exclaimed, stepping out of the car with me following second.

"Your mystery man lies inside this very hall" She sighed nonchalantly, Her face lit up with a soft glow under the night light.

"This is one down for the album" She yelled as we both posed for a selfie, her making the duck face while I just winked at the camera. Judie started typing on her phone- probably sending it to her mum while I, I was a frightened mess.

My heart beat was driven with acceleration, my hands folding and unfolding repeatedly. I knew that I looked good- great actually, but something inside told me that it would be a disaster. That someone was just pranking me all along while I accepted everything like a lost-fool.

'Nevertheless I'm a fool, a fool that's fallen for you'

The message blared onto my head. My heart 'thumped' even louder as i reminisced the past text message of his. It was my favorite one of them all.

"Here's your mask Mikey, it's a black one to match your outfit" She winked, as she strutted inside the hall, a huge roar of applause following as the doors shut close.

I slid on the soft fabric onto my head, adjusting the ribbon like band from behind as I peeped through the holes.

This is it.

It's time.

21/6/2016, 8:55pm, 55 minutes in the prom party.

"Welcome to this year's Prom everyone! I, Reed Manning, your host for today, will begin the official dance ceremony!" The boy cheered, with all the others following suit. I raised up from my seat, clapping on as my smile stretched out even further.

"With this year's theme, That is: Enchanted Masquerade, we request all of the lovely pairs in the crowd to come forth and swoon away!" He yelled. Boys starting getting up from their seats, grinning as they take their prom date in a hand and the other on their waist.

I remained standing, my eyes frantic in search for my best friend. Where was she when I needed her?

I sat back on the chair, groaning in agitation due to the absence of my so called 'date'. For all I knew, Mr.x could have been a figment of my imagination.

Nah, it can't be.

"May I have your attention please?" A husky, masculine voice immediately grabbed my attention. A boy was standing on the stage, one hand in his pocket as a small smirk danced against the stubble of his features.

"The current time is 8:55pm, and do you know what that means ladies and gents?" He asked, the ghost of a smirk still present. I took a bit more time and this time actually scanned the guy's entire frame.

Form fitting suit. Check.

Red lace-dressed mask.Check.

Green specked eyes.Check.

Damn it.

"It's the crowning of the prom king and queen time!!" A girl- wait a minute..was that who I think it was?

"Right on Jessica" The Man forced a cheer, a fake smile that anyone could have noticed, plastered on. As if on cue, Judie came forward towards the stage, with two giant sized boxes in her hands. She shaked it pretty hard, the noise of the paper emanating throughout the silent hall, with every soul crossing their fingers in hopes that they'd win a title.

Pshhthere's no way that It could be me.

"I want to pick one from the box please!" Jessica's whiny voice putted in, as she excitedly raised her hand.

She strutted forward, her long strides pushing forward her bright pink dress to the main stage. She winked towards the man- as she bent forward to pick a piece.

"It's ME!?" Her voice cheered, the paper slowly leaping out of her hold, descending to the ground. She jumped up and down, her squealing making everyone cringe from her joyous parade.

Drama queen much?

"And the prom king is..." Judie yelled with as she opened another piece.

"Cade Ryder!"
