After causing too much dragon drama in his mother's hometown of Lapen, the lonesome dragon Crimson is stranded in a cave with a bat fairy, Flame Twig, and has the determination to make the best of a bad situation. When he sheds his scales, they turn into rubies. Soon a Princess Penelope who lives in the Castle of Contentment ventures to his lair on Lonely Mountain. They become friends and get into various adventures together, including helping the Princess who has to get permission from the Monarch to marry a genuine love interest. The Princess was told at a young age that she was suitable for a king. It was tradition to require approval of the monarch. Penelope wonders if she has to ask permission how she would know that she would love the prince of a royal family. Crimson gives Penelope a magical ruby necklace that will help her find her Prince. Penelope wears the necklace Valentin gave Crimson to guard. Crimson assists Penelope and eventually gets up the courage to leave his creepy cave and chooses love over greed to help the Princess Penelope and Prince Valentin discover each. The dragon gives Valentin a ride knowing he was ready to find an aristocrat to marry. The spirited dragon does not fit in with the other greedy dragons and misses his family. However, he saves the village and becomes the town hero when there is a battle on Lonely Mountain and ends with the burning of the village cornfield. Crimson fights a dangerous dragon named Sparks Snorter, who lives at the bottom of the ocean. He guards vast treasures and schemes to get the ruby necklace from Penelope. Sparks is always trying to outwit the opponent dragons in the Kingdom of Nosmir.Green Smasher the Gold Hoarder lives in a lair near an inactive volcano. The dragon's two-headed hatchling, Amethyst, wants revenge on Sparks Snorter for attacking her mother. Crimson, Sparks Snorter and Amethyst fight over greed.
