Nişanyan'ın bu çirkin sözleri, sosyal medyada büyük tepki topladı. Birçok kullanıcı, Nişanyan'ı şiddetle kınadı ve haddini bilmesi gerektiğini söyledi. Bazı kullanıcılar ise Nişanyan'ın FETÖ'nün yayın organı Taraf'ta yazdığı dönemde Peygamber Efendimiz Hz. Muhammed (S.A.V) hakkında da alçakça ifadeler kullandığını hatırlattı.
Nişanyan, 2013 yılında Taraf gazetesinde yayınlanan bir yazısında, Peygamber Efendimiz Hz. Muhammed (S.A.V)'in hayatını küçümseyen ve hakaret eden cümleler kurmuştu. Nişanyan, "Muhammed'in hayatı, bugünün standartlarına göre, bir seri katilin hayatından farksızdır" diyerek büyük bir saygısızlık yapmıştı.
Nişanyan'ın bu yazısı da o dönemde büyük bir infiale neden olmuştu. Nişanyan hakkında çok sayıda suç duyurusunda bulunulmuştu. Nişanyan, daha sonra yaptığı açıklamada, yazısının arkasında durduğunu ve özür dilemeyeceğini söylemişti.
