New Jersey Missed Opportunity to 'Capture and Benefit Financially' from Recreational Marijuana Legalization, Says Attorney Charles X GormallyPursuing legalized recreational marijuana use is still ongoing, Gov. Phil Murphy and New Jersey legislative leaders said, and New Jersey still has an opportunity to usher in the recreational marijuana industry to the state.Even though the cancellation of the vote to legalize recreational marijuana may slow things down, attorney Charles X Gormally of Brach Eichler said he has not lost hope. New Jersey's neighbors, Pennsylvania and New York, are working toward recreational marijuana legalization as well, however, so New Jersey may have missed its opportunity to be a leader, said Charles X Gormally. Charles X Gormally has been part of the cannabis discussion for a decade, representing medical cannabis clients since 2009.New Jersey will also suffer from the loss of revenue, as $60 million was estimated in Gov. Phil Murphy's budget proposal for 2020."Our state has lost the momentum that the Garden State had created," said Charles X Gormally in a statement, since New York and Pennsylvania are expected to legalize recreational marijuana in the future. "It is now unlikely that New Jersey can be the first to create the adult-use marketplace in the region and, with it, its ability to capture and benefit financially from this new business model.""Sadly, this also means that New Jersey will not benefit from thousands of jobs that this new business would have created in New Jersey; the stimulation of local real estate markets in undesirable business locations, which are fertile ground for cannabis business; and, of course, the millions of dollars of sorely needed tax revenue for the state and for municipalities," Charles X Gormally said.
