The poem:'Forgive You!' is a short piece about a very unfortunate event, such as a killing, which has taken over the mind of the unnamed character. Although the chapel across the moor cannot help her to bear the guilt, the birds that have copied the words of the priest have proven vital to her own growth. As crows are able to mimic speech, it is possible that the crows have overheard the confessions and the priest saying the phrase 'I forgive you.' However, as the crows have learned the phrase imperfectly, they have dropped the 'I' which makes the sentence imperative. If we take what the crows say to the unnamed protagonist literally, it would be more like: "You forgive you!"Thus the character was able to forgive herself. The poem is all about dealing with guilt: real, old, or imagined. And the lesson is that no God nor ecclesiastical clergyman can ease the pain that you have brought upon yourself; the harder you try to forget, the longer it stays. Forgiving yourself is a tool that rids you of this mental elephant, wherein the self-forgiveness of any grievance puts you at ease of your own mistakes.Behind the scenes:Once again, since I don't have a cover design, just have the picture of Yorkshire from my other poems.I wish to get better at poetry and language in general by the time I finish A-Levels so - by all means - criticize me into the ground. My inspirations come from romantic authors such as Percy Shelley, but my style is a strange mix of free verse, fantasy works, power metal, and the way narrators talk in darker games. It sounds bad when all in one list but that's for the poem itself to decide. I tend to let images unfold since I don't think there is need for exposition if features of a scene are left unused (I am still capable of descriptive writing) I believe it should be the mind's eye that creates the whole image. Finally, I often feel limited when dealing with conventional poetic structures such as sonnets and I prefer not to use them.
On the eve of 31 December 2019, as the world celebrated the start of a new decade, the province of Wuhan alerted the World Health Organization of several 'flu-like' cases. Less than a week later, a novel coronavirus, was identified. In February, the disease it caused was named COVID-19. Even now, as the global infection rate crosses 1,00,000 and the death toll surpasses 3000, we are yet to understand the threat posed by this new coronavirus. There is no vaccination to prevent it, and no antiviral to cure the sick. While high numbers are being reported daily, agencies may still be unaware of many cases. The Coronavirus is a timely must-read for everyone keen on understanding its impact and fallout.
