Não, pelo menos a cidade era atacada uma vez, a cada dez anos. Pelos mesmos atacantes.Era um povo bárbaro, diziam. Mesmo esses bárbaros não queimando uma única casa. Um povo cruel e ganancioso, diziam os aldeões. Mesmo esses bárbaros nunca matando ou pilhando a cidade. Bom, na verdade, matavam. Esse povo bárbaro, cruel e ganancioso, matava uma pessoa, a cada dez anos.E para o povo acuado atrás das muralhas, a essa pessoa era dada a condição de mártir. E o mártir somente servia para ir até os inimigos e morrer, para manter os aldeões seguros atrás das muralhas de Senda.E o mártir lá estava, do lado de fora da muralha. Enquanto centenas de aldeões se acotovelavam nos beirais para vê-lo morrer.A vida do mártir não era fácil, pois ninguém queria compartilhar com ele um prato de comida sequer, pois, diziam, seria um desperdício compartilhar uma refeição com um semi morto. A vida difícil o tornou duro e o ensinou a sobreviver. Bom, pelo menos até aquele fatídico dia, quando fora arrastado de seu caixote de madeira.Arrastaram o mártir pela cidade, deram-no um bom banho e o vestiram numa armadura polida, amassada por todos os lados. E o deram também uma espada, com moças por toda a sua extensão.Pouco a pouco os aldeões aprenderam que, pouco importava aos bárbaros, se o mártir podia lutar ou não. Portanto, não precisavam perder um aldeão adulto e produtivo.
