Rule of the Brazen Sword
A snake slithered up the chair's arm to gracefully rest upon the king's broad shoulders. It's golden scales gleamed in the sunlight filtering through the stained glass windows. A pale hand reached up and stroked the small metal-like scales on the snake's face. The snake hissed it's pleasure and rubbed it's sharp jaw against the equally defined jaw of it's master. A deep-throated laugh emanated from the pale neck and red lips parted to speak. "I told you Attora," smooth beads of blood dropped to the white floor, "if you cannot do as you promised," the snake slowly slid from his shoulders "then you are of no use" the sound of golden scales hitting the stone floor echoed throughout the high-ceilinged basilica. The king rose from his gilded throne and strode leisurely to the imposing double doors, his white fur cape dragging behind him. Just before he reached the doors he waved his hand and with a mighty sound, the doors opened to reveal a grand spiraling staircase of white marble. The sound of his golden heeled shoes faded as he descended into bright white light.
