When Pepper suggested to Tony that maybe he shouldn't be spending so much time alone, the last thing either of them expected was for Tony to actually listen. When Tony stumbles across Huxley in the Avenger's search for Loki's sceptre, they strike a deal. Huxley and his grandmother's freedom in exchange for showing Tony where the sceptre is. But when Huxley is finally free, he learns that Hydra failed their end of the bargain, and his grandmother is dead. Heartbroken and suddenly assuaged with abilities he can't control, Huxley is forced to turn to the only person left he feels he can trust.
