Perhaps it was the proximity that started making him feel differently. Never before had Spencer really thought about you in any other light then his best friend, and if he ever did have weird thoughts he would immediately crush them. But, after not seeing you in a long time, he was shocked by how much he started to change around you. When you started working at the BAU, he thought it would be a simple transition into the way things had always been, just in a new environment. Yet, Spencer didn't factor in how the years might have changed his opinions. He found it gradual at first, noticing how cute small things about you were, like your motivation to work, or Garcia and your relationship, or even how flustered you would get when Derek would tease you about some show you liked. He wasn't necessarily the best at conveying how he was feeling, and that made him a prime target to Derek Morgan. After a failed attempt at covering up the fact he was staring at you, the team couldn't help but laugh after you left.
