030 | the monster and the superhero

Sunday, 23rd March 1986

BEA WOKE UP THE NEXT MORNING, rubbing her eyes as she looked around, remembering she'd spent the night in the shed.

She looked over and saw Eddie pacing back and forth. She'd explained everything last night and must have fallen asleep afterwards but he appeared to have not slept at all.

She got up, yawning as she looked around before hearing the door open, both of them jumped in surprise, Bea aiming her gun at the door.

"Calm down, it's just us," Steve said and she jumped up, putting the gun in her holster before walking over to him.

He instantly pulled her in for a hug, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. He spent the whole night terrified something would happen to her but now here she was, safe in his arms.

"How's mum?" Bea asked, turning to Dustin as he gave food to Eddie.

"Totally just believes you're staying at Steves last night," he confirmed and she smiled.

She knew that her mum was going to be more worried about her and Dustin now that she thought there was a killer on the loose.

"We've got some good news and some bad news. We used Beas comms and they're definitely looking at you," Dustin explained.

"You looked through my stuff? What else did you find?" Bea asked, narrowing her eyes at her brother.

"Nothing I want to admit out loud, I've already talked to Steve about it," he said, cringening slightly before turning to Eddie, "Anyway, they're pretty convinced you killed Chrissy. The good news is your name isn't public yet,"

He begins freaking out and Bea places a hand on his shoulder. After talking last night she realised that he was a cool guy, not just a freak like everyone said.

"So before they find it we have to find Vecna, kill him and prove your innocence," Dustin explained, keeping it brief for him.

"Listen, I know everything Dustin has said is dillusional but as I explained all last night, we've been through this before. It's our fourth time, this is Maxs third time, its Robins second," Bea explained.

"All night?" Steve questioned.

"I had to catch him up, it's a long story," she explained.

"There's nothing to worry about," Robin said as she saw the horrified look on Eddie's face.

All of a sudden, they heard the blaring of sirens and Eddie rushed back under the tarp whilst the rest rushed to the windows.

"Shit they're gonna need me," Bea said, looking at the amount of cars, "They probably already contacted me, and I missed it,"

"It's your day off babe, plus,Β  Calahan probably thought you slept in," Steve explained, trying to reason with her.

They got in the car, driving past the scene before stopping where the road wad blocked off. Bea got out of the car, walking toward the police officers.

"Hey officers, what's going on here?" She asked and Calahan turned to her

"Not much, just found another body, it's your day off, what are you doing?" He asked, seeing the car with her friend in it.

"Not much Phil, me and my friends were driving past," she explained, trying to sound as inconspicuous as possible.

"Just another dead kid, we'll talk about it tomorrow okay," he said, placing a hand on her shoulder before sending her on her way.

Nancy tagged along, getting in the back of the car that was now cramped with the 6 of them fitting into a 5 seater car, Bea practically having to sit on Steves lap.

They go the trailer park where rhe accident happened and sat down on a picnic bench, the group beginning to explain to Nancy what had happened.

"So you're telling me that this thing that killed Chrissy, its from the upside down?" She questioned, still comprehending all the new facts.

"Our working theory is that he attacks with a spell or curse. Whether or not he's doing the work of the mindflayer or enjoys killing teens, we don't know," Bea said, shrugging her shoulders

"All we know is this is something different,"

"Fred and Chrissy, why them," Nancy asked, brows furrowed as she thought of any possible solutions.

"They were both at the trailer park," max suggested.

Steve looked worried, "We're at the trailer park," He said and everyone looked around.

Bea could see the worry in Steves eyes, placing a hand on his thigh and within seconds his body had become less tense. He placed his hand on top of hers, running his thumb over her knuckles.

"There is something about this place. Fred started acting weird the second we got here. He was scared, in edge, upset," Nancy explained, recalling the events of last night.

"Chrissy, she was crying in the bathroom at school," Max stated.

"Serial killers stalk their prey before they strike right, so maybe Fred and Chrissy saw this Vecna," Robin explained, looking at the group.

"I don't know about you guys but if I saw this freaky wizard monster I'd mention it to someone," Steve said, a confused tone to his voice.

"You okay?" Bea leaned in to whisper in his ear, noticing how worried he looked.

They'd done dangerous missions like these before but never had she seen that look of fear in his eyes, like he was scared of losing something. He nodded, pressing a kiss to her temple before joining in with the conversation again.

"Maybe they did. I saw Chrissy leaving Miss Kelleys office," Max explained and they all made the plan to ho see Miss Kelley.

They all walk to the car but Nancy began to walk to hers, Steve calling out after her and asking where she was going.

"I've just got an idea. It may be a waste of time," she explained, slowling walking backwards.

"Are you crazy, flying solo with Vecna on the loose? It's too dangerous," Steve stated.

"Me and Steve can go with her, you guys stick together," Bea suggested.

"I can't drive, maybe me and Bea can fo with Nance," Robin counter suggested and they agreed, the girl smiling, "Girls trip,"

"You be safe there okay babe," Steve said as he pulled Bea in for a hug,

"Course, love you," she said, pressing a kiss to his lips

"Love you too," he replied as she walked away.

When they got to the library that Nancy had drove to and both girls were still comprehending what Nancy had said.

"So, Eddie's uncle Wayne thinks that Victor Creel excaped from Penhurst asylum and that he's the one commiting the murders," Bea repeated, thinking about the idea.

"But he committed these murdered way back in the 50s. So that means these murders predate the upside down by 30 years," Robin continued.

"It doesn't make sense I know. That's why I said that it's a shot in the dark," Nancy explained, ringing the bell on the front desk until a lady turned up, "Could we get the keys to the basement archives?"

The lady nodded and walked off, leaving the girls behind, "You seem annoyed. You don't know me very well. I don't have many good social cues and I'm surprised Steve and Bea spend so much time with me - well when they aren't making out," Robin rambled on.

"Got it," Nancy said and this time even Bea picked up the cold tone of her voice.

Nancy walked downstairs when they got the keys, leaving Bea and Robin to follow after her, "Don't worry, she's a bit cold, she'll warm up to you eventually," Bea suggested, placing a hand on her friends shoulder.

After the event of the last year qnd with her and Jonathan barely talking anymore, Robin was her best friend and the closest thing she hsd to a sister.

Back in Hawkins, Steve and Dustin sat in the car and waited whilst Max talked to Miss Kelley.

"Are we gonna talk about it," Dustin asked, breaking the awkward silence, "Your temporary insanity when you saw Eddie and Bea,"

"Ate you implying that I'm jealous?" Steve asked, turning to Dustin.

"I'm stating, and you were trying to protect Nancy to make Bea jealous, you know she's scared that you'll go back to her," He explained, raising his eyebrows at his friends expression.

"Thats not what I was doing," He huffed, folding his arms across his chest as he turned away.

"Then what was it?" Dustin asked. He didn't want Steve to break his sisters heart, he knew they were perfect for each other.

"I love her man. Your sister means the world to me and yeah, I don't like the way that Eddie was all over her this morning," Steve finally admitted, pursing his lips together in frustration.

"She was just being nice to him, she's the only one with professional training and could protect him. Plus, they're friends," he stated.

Steves head whipped back to look at Dustin so fast that he might have gotten whiplash, "They're friends?" He asked, completely dumbfounded.

"Yeah, dad knew Wayne Munson and so we have always known Eddie. She's risking a lot to protect him," Dustin explained, eyebrows furrowed together in confusion.

"Yeah, risking too much," Steve muttered under his breath.

"What is your problem?" Dustin asked, watching as Steves face began to go red from annoyance and embarrassment.

"My problem is that people are getting their eyes sucked out of their heads and I want to marry your sister, have tons of kids with her and spend the rest of my life with her so yeah, maybe I was scared shitless that I was gonna walk into that shed and see her dead okay?" He stated, his voice raised.

It was silent when he said that, neither knowing where the conversation was going to go after the admission.

"You want to marry my sister?" Dustin asked, trying to hold the tears back.

"Course I do man. She's beautiful and the nicest girl I've ever met but that doesn't stop her from being so fiery andΒ  confident and quick witted and she's perfect," Steve stated, a smile on his face as he thought about her.

"I'd give you permission to marry her," Dustin said as he looked over at Steve red face.

"Shut up man," he mumbled, looking down at his wallet that he'd been fidgeting with. Tucked inside was a picture of the two of them, one that people should never see, and one that he showed to everyone he met, proud that Bea was his girlfriend.

"You wanna marry my sister, you're in loooove," Dustin teased, poking Steve on the arm.

"I'll punch you so far in the face that your teeth fall out," he declared, the car falling silent again.

"Too far," Dustin stated.

"Not cool, I know," Steve said before reaching over, the two boys fist-bumping.

In the library, Nancy, Bea and Robin all looked through the newspaper articles, none of them fitting

"Hey, look what I found, it's some paranormal newspaper," Bea said, leaning over Robin's shoulder as she scrolled through.

Robin froze on the article when she found it, calling Nancy over, "Victor creel says that demon killed his family. Shocks local community," the headline reads.

"He believed his house was haunted and the exoticism failed and angered the demon and killed his family and ripped out their eyes," Robin read out.

"Maybe it was vecna," Bea suggested, the three looking at each other.

They walked out, the sun beginning to set as Bea called Dustin on the walkie talkies, "1959, her shot in the dark is a bullseye," she explained, "What are you doing?"

"I'm breaking into a school, got your ass over here stat," Dustin said before ending the line.

"We leave them one for two hours," Bea said, shaking her head as she got into the back of the car with Robin.
