Goblins.. It had to be Goblins

In the morning Barbara woke up feeling refreshed.

However, something felt off and opened her eyes to see that she was still shrunken.

She screams when she realized she didn't revert to her normal size and Lucas came in through the door.

"What's wrong.. Oh, no." The man also saw that his stepsister was still tiny and closed the door behind him.

"Why am I still small?" She complained.

"I don't know." Lucas freaks out.

"Maybe stuff works differently on trolls than it does on humans." He explained.

"Wait, where's the gnome? What did you do with it?" The woman asked with concern.

"I may or may not have taken care of it." Lucas replied.

"Wait, you did it!? I thought I was supposed to- Oh, no! The surgery! I promised to go today! What am I supposed to do?" She panics.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and the two froze.

"Mom, I made you some lunch for work today." Jim spoke from the other side.

"Lucas, do something." Barbara whispers to her stepbrother.

Lucas quickly steps out the door and closes it behind him.

"Hey, kiddo. Sorry to say this, but unfortunately your mother is feeling a bit sick today. Caught a nasty cough. Don't want to get near her." The man nervously chuckled.

"Oh, well, I'll leave her lunch in the fridge if she wants it later. I have to go to school, I have a Spanish presentation." Jim replied.

"I hope she gets well soon."

"Don't worry, I'll take care of her. You get going and good luck!" Lucas turns the boy around and watches Jim walk downstairs until he leaves the house.

Lucas goes back into Barbara's room to see her panicking.

"I can't call in sick, I promised I would come in to work. They'll probably be suspicious and think I'm trying to make an excuse.. Oh, I am in so much trouble!" Barbara began to hyperventilate.

"Hey, sis. Just calm down, because freaking out isn't going to help. Okay?" The man spoke.

Finally, the shrunken woman manages to calm herself down and rubs her temples.

"When do you have to head to work?" Lucas asked.

"Around three in the afternoon." Barbara replied.

"Well, all we can do is hope that you will change back before three. Besides, it'll wear off eventually, right?"

"Right."

"Look, I got to get ready for work. If anything happens, just call. I'll see ya later, sis."

The man waved goodbye and left the house.

Barbara sat back down on the pillow of her bed and let out a sigh.

"What is my life?" She mumbled to herself.

After a while, Barbara felt hungry and decided to leave the bed, but it was a little difficult due to her tiny size and everything around her was large.

She carefully slid down the bed and made it to the floor and left the room, thankfully her stepbrother left a small crack open from the door.

Then, she carefully climbs down the stairs which took a while. But when she made it to the bottom, she grew exhausted.

Before she could head to the kitchen, she heard something there, like someone was in there messing around.

When she went over to take a look, she saw a bunch of food being spilled from the fridge, her eyes widened with shock.

The woman looks over to find the culprit, which to her surprise to see that it was the gnome she captured.

"Huh? I thought Lucas...nevermind."

Barbara approaches the gnome.

"Hey, you!" She yelled.

The gnome froze, then turned around to see the shrunken woman who glared at him and he glared back with a growl.

"You better get out of that fridge right now, or else I won't hesitate to finish you off." She demanded.

However, the trouble-making gnome did not listen and instead went and pounced towards her.

Barbara quickly dodges and manages to grab onto him and throws him to the wall.

The gnome quickly gets up and jumps onto the counter, seeing a bowl filled with kitchen utensils and pushes it off the counter, the sharp objects falling towards her.

She yelps as she jumps away from the objects, creating loud noises from the impact, then she quickly grabs a spoon and holds it up like a baseball bat.

Up on the counter, the gnome got more agitated and started tossing whatever he could reach, like plates, a bowl of fruit, boxes of cereal and other things.

Barbara uses the spoon to bat away some of the items that were thrown at her, only jumping away from the bigger stuff.

"Okay, this is getting way out of hand.. I got to call Luke." Barbara quickly hid behind a counter, out of the gnome's sight.

Once she felt like she was safe, she pulled out her phone, which was also tiny, perhaps she must have left it in her pockets when she was shrunk, and began to call her stepbrother.

As the phone rang, hoping it wouldn't go to voicemail, she anxiously waited.

Finally, relief swept over her when she heard Lucas' voice call.

"Hello? Barbara?"

"Lucas, you got to help me, the gnome that you "supposedly took care of" is making a mess in my kitchen! You have to come here, now!" The woman spoke in a hushed, but upset tone.

"But, I'm on my five minute break.. I can't leave now." Lucas replied.

"I know, but this is an emergency! Besides, Jim will come home in a few hours and I don't want him to find the house a huge mess!" Barbara pleaded with him, trying to look out for the crazy gnome.

"Okay, okay. I'll come home as soon as possible. Just hang on."

Lucas hung up, and now it was up to her to deal with the trouble-maker, who turned on the sink and the water began to flood.

"Great..."

Then, she sees a kitchen rag hanging from the other side of the counter, if she could reach it perhaps could try to climb up.

Once the coast was clear, Barbara made a mad dash towards the rag, jumping up and grabbing onto the cloth.

She pulls herself up, finally getting on top of the counter, picking up the rag and glares at the gnome.

"It's over for you." She muttered.

The gnome growls again and charges at her, which she too dashes towards him.

Lucas drives to the driveway of the house and parks the car, he gets out of the vehicle and runs towards the front door, pulling out the keys and opening the door.

"Barbara! I'm here! Where's the gn-" Lucas freezes when he sees the mess of the kitchen, accidentally stumbling onto the wet floor.

Then, he sees Barbara, who surprisingly turned back to normal size, mopping the floor.

The gnome, who is now tied up with a rag, is on the counter and struggling to get out.

"Wow. The gnome really did all this?" He questions, carefully minding his step.

His stepsister gave him a disappointed look.

"Also, hey, you're back to normal! Good to have you sis!" The man awkwardly laughed.

"Why is he still alive? I thought you said you took care of him." Barbara spoke with her arms crossed.

"I did. I put him in a box with a blanket and pillows." Lucas replied.

The woman sighs and facepalms.

"Look, I know Blinky said we needed to "take care of him," but what if we, like, take care of him? I know it's not exactly the second rule of Trollhunting, but for this one, maybe we could do it our own way, without the murdering. Besides, I think he just wanted somewhere to stay and I know you probably don't have the guts to actually end him." The man explained, making a reasonable point that Barbara couldn't argue on.

The more she thought about it, the more she kind of agreed with him.

"You're right. But, we can't keep him in the house. Jim is going to find him, literally anywhere in the house." Barbara spoke, continuing to clean the kitchen floor.

"What about the basement?" Lucas suggested.

"The basement?" The woman repeated, then she remained quiet for a moment.

Barbara nodded and opened her mouth.

"I guess it could work, Jim usually never goes down there, he always says it gives him the creeps. The basement it is, then." She agreed.

"Well you better let him free, because he's looking pretty upset right now." Lucas pointed over to the gnome, who was rolling around and angrily yelling out gibberish.

"Right.." Barbara finally unties him, while Lucas picks him up and places him in the box, taking the gnome into the basement.

He comes back up to grab a few snacks for the trouble-making gnome.

"Hey, sis. Is it strange how I kind of have a name for him?" The man awkwardly questions.

"You already named the gnome?" Barbara looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

Lucas gave her an innocent smile and shrugs.

"Of course you did." The woman sighs again and squeezes the dirty water out of the mop into a bucket.

"Just hear me out! Gnome Chompsky." Lucas waved his hand in the air as he spoke.

Barbara couldn't help but laugh and smile, shaking her head and continuing cleaning the floor.

"Just get over here and help me clean up the mess." She spoke. And so, both of them cleaned the entire kitchen together, which took a while.

After they finished, Barbara lost track of time and realized it was ten minutes before three O'clock.

"Oh, no! The surgery! I got to go!" The woman quickly grabs an apple and heads upstairs to get dressed for work.

When she was ready, she rushed downstairs and grabbed her purse that was hanging from the racket and left the house.

"I'll see you later, Luke!" She called out, getting into her car and driving off.

In the museum, late at night, Strickler walks in the room carrying a small crate with an apple on top.

Before him was the bridge covered in a large white sheet.

Bular walks behind him on all fours, glaring at him.

"You're late." He growled.

"And you're impatient. I was waiting for another package to arrive." Strickler replied with an unamused expression.

The dark troll swipes the crate from his hands, causing the apple to roll from the crate and Strickler catches it.

When the lid was open, Bular took the piece of the bridge and aggressively dropped the crate.

He approaches the unfinished bridge and pulls the white sheet away, allowing the piece to magically stick onto its rightful place on the bridge.

Then, a small part of the bridge began to glow for a moment.

"Killahead Bridge will soon be complete. Our man from Germany will be arriving with more pieces soon." Strickler spoke with a smirk.

"And my father will know freedom and glory." Bular grins sinisterly.

"Hey! What are you doing in here?" A museum security guard called out, flashing his light at the two.

However, once he saw the dark creature turn around to face him, the man gasped and ran away.

"You were followed?" Bular turns to the changeling with a glare.

"Of course not. I brought you a midnight snack." Strickler smiles and holds up the apple in his hand.

The dark troll growls and goes after the security guard for a snack.

Strickler however has a snack of his own, raising the apple near his mouth and takes a bite out of it. Hearing the sounds of a roar and a man screaming.

Barbara didn't think she would survive the training course, but half an hour later, she hadn't died yet.

Dodging flames that were being thrown at her and deflecting arrows that shoot at her with her sword.

"Always be afraid. Fear heightens your senses. Fear keeps you alive." Blinky reminded the armored woman as she kept deflecting more arrows.

Once the arrows stopped coming, Barbara felt pretty confident, leaning against her sword, not watching her surroundings.

An arrow hits her back and she falls forward.

"Arrogance gets you killed." The blue troll stated, as he looked down at Barbara.

"Don't get too cocky, I'll have to remember that." Barbara groans.

"Draal, however, does not fear you. That will be his weakness, but not you. You will be wetting your armor. That will be your strength."

As Blinky spoke, he gently picked up Barbara, lifting her from the ground.

The woman silently gasped when she was picked up, feeling two hands underneath her armpits and another two holding the sides of her torso.

She didn't like how he was holding her, but she knew the blue troll didn't mean for anything malicious and was only trying to help.

Then, he carefully flips her around and gently pushes her into the training area.

Barbara shook her head to regain her focus and saw some rocks being thrown at her, to which she quickly deflected them.

In the distance, Lucas was doing some stretches.

"You're doing good, sis. Feel the burn!" He spoke out, encouraging his sister as she trained.

Aarrrghh was next to him watching the Trollhunter train, then he looked over to the man.

"If Barbara is getting fit, then I better get started. Plus, it's been a while since I've done any exercise. Don't want to be too big." Lucas said as he did some jumping-jacks.

The large gray troll self-consciously looked at himself, catching the attention of the man.

"Not that there's anything wrong with being big. But if I'm gonna have Barbara's back, I gotta be nimble."

Lucas began to run in place with Aarrrghh joining along.

Barbara still continued to bat away rocks that were being thrown at her.

She grunts as she hacks and slices at the training dummies.

"You know, I think being afraid is the one rule that I- Oh!"

Barbara saw in the corner of her eye a dummy shooting many arrows at her and she instinctively ducks, the arrows stabbing into another training dummy behind her.

She looks over, seeing the dummy now being caught on fire, and chuckles.

"...I excel at."

"No, Lady Barbara. You must excel at all three. If trolls are ever going to embrace you as Trollhunter, you must ignore your humanly instincts." Blinky spoke as he approached beside her.

Suddenly a training dummy appears and Barbara instinctively throws her sword at it, stabbing it in the face.

Blinky stared at the dummy with a surprised expression, amazed how quick Barbara reacted.

"Do that, and I have no doubt you will defeat Draal." He spoke confidently and wrapped his two arms around her, bringing her closer to him to the point where she was squished against him.

"You really think so?" Barbara weakly replied as looked at him.

"Of course." The blue troll looks back at her and smiles.

The armored woman felt warm and happy, a soft flush appeared on her face.

She never had anyone believe in her in doing, basically the impossible to her, before, and she was glad to have met someone like Blinky to be the one to believe in her.

He was the only troll, and Aarrrghh of course, to truly believe she can be a great Trollhunter when no other troll did.

Before she could say something else, Draal enters The Forge with another troll.

"Look...it's training. Cute." He laughs at the woman and continues walking.

Barbara and the others walked the other direction, staring at the spikey troll.

Then, she hears him say something in a different language, presumably something insulting about her.

Blinky walks over to her, staring at Draal, then he looks over at the woman, who looked a bit nervous.

"Let your fear keep you alive. Let his arrogance lead him astray. Defeat him... and you'll make history." The blue troll reminded her with a strong and encouraging tone.

Barbara seems to feel a little less nervous whenever she hears Blinky speak in that tone.

It feels so uplifting, like she could have the strength to actually defeat Draal.

Blinky places a hand over her back and the two walk out of The Forge.

In the Museum, Lucas was assigned to work with an employee, a woman named Zelda Nomura and was informed that there was going to be a school field trip from the History students.

The students arrived at the front of the museum with Mr. Strickler guiding them.

Lucas manages to see Jim and his friend Toby.

He gave an acknowledging smile to the boy, who waved at him.

Then, Ms. Nomura began to speak to the group.

"I know contemporary media might lead you to believe. European history is full of swords, sorcery, and scandal. I assure you, the truth is far more interesting, and there is no better place to start than Renaissance Era pottery."

The students let out a sigh as they didn't seem interested in the subject.

"Since we have limited time, Ms. Nomura, perhaps it's best if they explore the museum on their own. Don't you think?" Mr. Strickler spoke, causing the teens to get excited.

Eventually the teens got inside and looked around, while the adults were supervising.

As Lucas walked down the hall, he saw a covered area with a "no enter" sign, which was strange to him as he was asked not to go in there, even though he is an employee at the museum.

It felt a little suspicious, but he ignored it for now.

After a while, he saw Jim attempting to talk to a girl, but he looked like he was struggling.

Something he can relate to, as he was once in the same position as the boy when he was a teenager.

Though, he wasn't sure if he should help Jim or let him figure it out on his own. He just hopes his nephew doesn't do something stupid.

Then, he heard a commotion nearby with a boy wearing glasses showing some of the students something on his phone.

Lucas decided to check it out.

"At first, I thought it was an alien. Definitely not human. It's some sort of monster!" The boy explained.

"Come on, give it up, Eli." One girl spoke.

"No, no! This time, I have photographic evidence."

"Hey, Eli, can I see?" Toby buds in and Eli shows him the image on his phone.

Lucas walks behind them and sees a glimpse of the photo, his eyes widened when Eli zooms in on what looks like a green squashed creature.

"Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh." Toby responded with excitement.

"What is it?" He asked.

"I don't know, but I'm going to post it online." Eli replied.

This made Lucas panic and had to do something.

"Is there a problem here?" The man pretends to not be aware of what was going on.

"Oh, yeah. Last night I found this on my street and I had to take a picture of it." Eli responded and showed him the image.

Lucas takes the phone and examines it, then he pretends to accidentally delete the photo.

"Oh, darn! I accidently deleted it. Sorry kid, my fingers slipped." The man sadly spoke.

"What! No! I was going to post it online!" Eli grabs his phone, looking at it with shock.

"If it's any consolation, I believe you." Lucas tries to make the kid feel better.

"Yeah, me too." Toby replied.

"I guess..." The smaller boy sighs and walks off.

Lucas felt bad for him, but it had to be done, so no one else knows about whatever that was, that most likely something Barbara would have to take care of.

Toby went back to his friend, Jim and Lucas took out his phone.

Barbara was at home, taking a day off and still attempting to read the book of troll lore, when she heard her phone ring.

She took it out and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Barbara, there's something you need to know." Lucas worriedly replied.

"Is it really important? Because I'm trying to read this book." The woman spoke.

"It's actually kind of bad. We have a problem."

"What kind of problem?" Barbara asked, sensing something wrong.

"Voila!" Lucas exclaims as he pokes at the squashed creature with a stick.

"Not voila. Goblin." Aarrrghh spoke.

"Goblin?" Barbara repeated.

"Ruthless tricksters. Petty street vandals who leave a wake of destruction. This is not good." Blinky stated.

"Well, it's dead now. We should probably go back and train for Draal." Barbara replies and gets up to head back, only to be stopped by Blinky.

"Oh, no, Lady Barbara. Where there is one, there is many. And, for the unfortunate soul who ran over this small fellow, may Skaargen's swift blade have mercy!" The blue troll spoke and spit on his two upper hands, rubbing them together then placing a fist against his chest.

"And why is that?" The woman asked.

"Naturally, goblin payback is ten-fold." Blinky responded, holding up his two four-fingered hands and using two fingers from his two lowered hands to make ten fingers.

"Are you saying whoever ran this goblin over is in serious danger?" Barbara worriedly spoke.

"It must have been a delivery guy. Look." Lucas pointed out at a house where a note was taped onto the front door.

The man approaches and examines the note.

"Yup, and it seems the driver is returning at eight."

"Then, we need to be here, too. I'm not going to let some innocent guy become a victim to a goblin attack. Not on my watch." Barbara placed her hands on her hips and her expression was serious.

"Lady Barbara, answering the call!" Blinky proudly exclaimed as he raised his many hands in the air.

"So it's a stakeout! Sweet!" Lucas also exclaims with a grin.

Later that night, Barbara and the group hid around the area, looking out for goblins or the delivery man.

"It's already nine O'clock. Ugh." Blinky groans with frustration, already getting tired of waiting.

"It appears the only thing being delivered is failed expectations."

Next to him was Barbara as she was using binoculars to see if any delivery truck was coming.

"At least, no signs of goblins." The woman replied.

She pulls her phone, handing the binoculars to Blinky, who was trying to figure out how it works since he had six eyes, and calls her stepbrother from the other side.

"Hey, Luke, All clear. How is it going over there?" She spoke.

"All good, Trollhunter, just getting some steps in. Don't want to miss a single day without exercising. Other than that, nothing usual here." Lucas responded while running in place.

Aarrrghh looks at him with a raised brow.

"You are unusual." The large troll commented.

That is when a truck came and caught the attention of the man.

"Trollhunter, the package is arriving." Lucas alerted Barbara on the phone.

The two look over and see the truck stop near the house and the driver gets out to get the package.

As he carries the package, he walks over to the house but accidentally drops it, quickly picking it up and continuing on.

"Let's get him out of here before it's too late." Barbara spoke and was about to head over to the delivery guy, only for Blinky to grab her arm, stopping her.

"Wait! His fate might already be sealed. They're here. Look!" The blue troll hands over the binoculars to the woman and she takes a look.

There in the distance she saw multiple goblins taking out the lights from the street lamps, and a large group of them appearing out of the mist, being led by one goblin with a drawn mustache.

"No, I'm not gonna let that man-"

"Great trouble! There appears to be far more than I had anticipated."

Blinky manages to grab and pull Barbara, as she was about to walk over, down to the ground so they wouldn't be seen.

"Stay down and don't make a sound. In their frenzied state, they'll attack anyone in their path." The blue troll spoke in Barbara's phone, warning the other two to stay hidden.

Then, the delivery guy rings the doorbell, and within seconds the door opens, revealing a boy with glasses.

"Oh, no. There's a boy there! He's probably in Jim's class." Barbara gasped when she saw the young teen.

"Lady Barbara, I understand you want to help them, but it's too dangerous." Blinky whispered.

The red-haired woman was in disbelief and frightened that she couldn't go in and try to save two innocent people.

Soon the swarm of goblins climbs onto the truck and begins chewing through it.

"Oh, my goblins.." Lucas peeks over to see the carnage, fear striking within him.

"Unexpected. Their dispute isn't with the driver at all, but rather the transportation that flattened their kinsman. Ooh, you must not be afraid, Lady Barbara." Blinky explained over the phone and reassured Barbara.

"I thought you said the first rule of Trollhunting was to always be afraid." The woman spoke, feeling a bit of a shiver.

"Trolls, not goblins." Aarrrghh's voice could be heard through her end of the call.

"Goblins crave the pheromone of terror, an odor you appear to be releasing quite generously." Blinky stated as he looked over at Barbara.

In her state, she did seem to be shivering and scared, which she couldn't seem to control as she usually gets frightened by overwhelming moments.

"Wait! This is too much. You mean, they can smell fear?" Lucas spoke and sniffed his armpit.

"Oh, no! I can smell it! That or it could be the sweat from all that exercise."

"Then stop, or they will eat you!" Blinky warned.

To which the man freaks out and screams, alerting some goblins and turning around to snarl at Barbara and Blinky.

"Perhaps I made my point too loud. Run!" Blinky yelled and grabbed Barbara's wrist as the two began to run away.

Several goblins chase after them with Lucas hopping onto Aarrrghh's back and the large troll follows them.

Both Barbara and Blinky were panting as they ran from the swarm of goblins that were gaining after them.

As the woman's heart races she feels something in her pocket, she takes out the amulet and it begins to glow brightly.

Blinky looks over to see Barbara in armor.

"Now is not the time for armor! It'll only slow you down!" He yelled out.

"You think I'm trying to do this?" Barbara responded, stumbling from the weight of the armor as she ran.

"Your armor is responding to your emotional state! Control your fear, or you'll be dinner!" The blue troll explained.

Barbara was falling behind and couldn't keep up.

"It's so, so heavy!" She breathed out.

Suddenly, the goblins caught up to her and some pounced at her.

"Lady Barbara!" Blinky exclaimed as he saw the armored woman fall to the ground and be dragged by a couple of goblins.

He wished he could stop to help her but some of the goblins were still chasing after him.

Just when she thought she was done for, she was quickly scooped up by Aarrrghh and thrown onto his mossy back.

The large troll batted away some of the goblins that were in his way and continued running.

Lucas and Barbara were relieved that they were safe from danger, and the two smiled and laughed.

Due to her relief, the armor disappeared.

Blinky looks back to see the Trollhunter safe and smiles.

However, they weren't out of the clear yet, as the goblins were still behind, chasing after them.

"Man that was close-AHH!"

Lucas was grabbed by a goblin that caused him to fall from the large troll, but Barbara quickly grabs his ankle.

The man was hanging and panics when a goblin was grabbing onto his arm.

"Get it off, get it off, get it off!" He screams and tries to shake the feral creature off of him.

Thankfully, he managed to shake the goblin off.

His stepsister was able to pull him back up and the two were relieved again.

"Okay, that was close." Barbara spoke.

"We need to find a refuge! Troll Market's too far!" Blinky yelled out.

"Cut through these backyards. We'll get to my house. Come on, come on!" Barbara pointed over and the two trolls ran to the direction she pointed at.

Soon they made it to the backyard and Aarrrghh helps the two humans over the fence.

"Up and over."

Then, he helps Blinky over the fence, finally jumping over and the group runs to the backdoor.

Barbara scrambles through her pockets to get the keys, struggling to find the right one.

"Come on, come on! Hurry, sis!" Lucas spoke with fear.

"Don't rush me!" The woman twisted the key in the keyhole, but was having trouble trying to unlock the door due to her panic state.

Lucas looked behind and saw some goblins climbing over the fence.

"Oh, no!" He exclaimed.

The goblins jumped over and were approaching the group.

Finally, Barbara manages to open the backdoor and she quickly rushes in, along with Lucas, Blinky and lastly Aarrrghh.

However, he got stuck halfway and struggled to get in the small door.

The woman gasped and quickly flipped a switch that turned on the lights from the backyard.

As the lights turned on, the goblins were frightened by it and they retreated.

"Thank goodness for that anti-burglar system I installed many months ago." She lightly chuckled.

The group were heavily breathing from all that running, however there was something else they had to worry about.

"Mom, Uncle Lucas? Is that you?" Jim's voice called out from the living room.

Everyone remained quiet, Barbara looked over to see her son watching a movie on the couch.

"Uhh, yes. It's just us. Don't worry about us, me and Lucas are going to store some of his stuff in the basement." The woman explained to her son, waving her hand to lead the three into the basement.

In the basement, the group settled down, finally.

However, Barbara was still shaken by the whole ordeal and sits down on one of the steps of the stairs.

Blinky was pacing around with concern.

"I'm sorry to say this, Lady Barbara, but your town is infested with goblins!" The blue troll exclaims as he shakes the woman's shoulders.

"Okay, trolls, I can deal with because, at least trolls stay underground. But goblins? I don't even have the mentality to deal with this right now. And don't get me started with the exhaustion from stress! I mean, how are we going to even find them now?" Barbara spoke, trying to remain calm.

"Must find den." Aarrrghh stated.

"Yes, and eradicate them at once before they seek their revenge." Blinky spoke.

"Wait.. Revenge?" Barbara repeated, sounding a bit lost.

"On you two. And they now know where you live." The blue troll replied.

"So, we find their den. You must have some idea." Lucas spoke out.

"Haven't the foggiest. It could be anywhere."

Out of nowhere, a chattering sound was heard.

Blinky's ears perked and swiftly turned around, seeing a box that now looks like a makeshift home.

He peeks in to see a gnome eating a snack that he possibly must have snatched from the kitchen.

"Great Gronka Morka! What is the gnome doing in this box!" The blue troll yelled with a furrowed expression.

"Mom, I'm going to bed now. I'll see you in the morning! Night!" Jim opens the door to the basement and calls out, luckily he didn't go downstairs.

The group froze, but Barbara quickly responded, trying to act normal.

"Oh, uhh.. Okay kiddo. Good night. I'll see you tomorrow." She awkwardly called back.

Then, the boy left, the sounds of footsteps from above could be heard.

When everything became quiet, Barbara turned back and began to speak.

"You told me to take care of the gnome, so we're taking care of it." She replied.

"This is in direct violation of rule number two!" Blinky scolded and pointed a finger at the woman.

"Whatever happened to finishing the fight?"

"And rule number one is to always be afraid, except if you're around goblins because they smell fear. Your rules make less sense than doing taxes, which- Oh, yeah- I have to do tomorrow, unless I get eaten by goblins tonight." Barbara complains, crossing her arms and glares at the blue troll.

Then she let out a sigh, feeling like she is getting a bit too worked up.

"I'm sorry. I'm no good at understanding your rules. I'm not ready for Draal, Bular, or finding a stupid den of goblins." Her expression drops and she looks down at the ground with sad frown.

Blinky walks over and places a hand onto her shoulder.

"As your trainer, I can only advise, not make your decisions. I understand. You're human. You're learning the rules in your own way." He softly spoke, trying to brighten her mood.

"Aarrrghh and I will seek out this den, wherever it may be. You just focus on your personal issues. It seems life has thrown enough at you for one day." Blinky reassures the two humans, as they smiled at each other and then looked back at the blue troll.

Just as the group was beginning to get in a good mood, Blinky then snapped.

"But a gnome living in your basement?" He complained.

Lucas innocently smiles, while Barbara rolls her eyes and chuckles.
