There can be no place for magic in Camelot
Merlin thought he was doing the right thing. He thought telling Arthur that magic had no place in Camelot he'd be able to save his friend. When he sees the mistake he made, he leaves Camelot. Unable to handle the burden of the fate he'd condemned his friends to endure. Arthur, Gwen, Gaius, and the Knights of the Round Table seek out the Druids to find out everything they can about Merlin and his magic in hopes they can find their friend and bring him home.(Merlin left letters behind explaining why he had to leave. A majority of the story will be centered on everyone except Merlin as they learn about him and his sacrifices)Takes place after Season 5 episode 5, The Disir. AU / Canon Divergence
Becoming Magic
Based on BBC's Merlin, takes place post season 3 and leads in to season 4. Arthur Pendragon has been crowned King of Camelot as his father's condition worsens. His coronation is celebrated with a fortnight of festivities. Merlin shares some secrets and finds more acceptance than he thought was possible. His magic matures and he has trouble controlling it at times. After an unfortunate encounter with Slavers, Arthur has demanded that Merlin take part in a training regimen including swordsmanship and hand-to-hand.The Knights all know about Merlin's magic and have claimed him as their younger brother. Well. Except Gwaine, who wants more than friendship with the warlock.
Stop Being Difficult
Merlin is still technically a citizen of Essitir, and the new regents decide it's time he served his own kingdom instead of Camelot. The Knights know of Merlin's magic, so does King Arthur. They all try to find a way to free Merlin without causing a war. Mostly the POV of Arthur and the Knights to show their worry and concern over Merlin's well-being.I ship Merwaine, but a nice touch of Merwaincelot added in.
Darkness
When Morgana gets captured and imprisoned by King Lot, Merlin is thrown in with her but was able to get Aithusa to safety before being shut in the dark for almost two years.
Lord of the Druids
Merlin decides to reach out to Princess Mithian after she leaves Camelot. He understands how valuable an alliance with Nemeth would be for Camelot. Their letters and correspondence eventually branch off to something more.(Cross-posted on AO3)
