Aiden Russell is a bright, imaginative, and creative twelve-year-old boy, who is just on the verge of becoming a teenager. Aiden and Ruby immediately form a close friendship. But Ruby and her mother are seen as outsiders here in a tightknit community that already has a strong dislike and distrust of strangers. The fact that Ruby's mother owns a 'Real Magic Shop' full of odd and wonderous curiosities does not help them to fit in. Could these two newcomers be practicing witchcraft? The bond between Aiden and Ruby is tested by the fear and hysteria from a community that is suffering from the shock of a recent spate of occult-like and grizzly, murders.
