Leilani's lungs burned, screaming at her to stop. Begging her to take a break, to stop running. Her feet carried her down the empty highway towards where she wanted to go.

"Holy fucking shit, why the fuck... did I skip... gym to smoke weed.." Leilani huffed, leaning against a nearby tree to catch her breath. "Fuck.."

Leilani paused to look at her surroundings, trying to assess how close she was. She wanted to see her. She needed to see her.

After the revelation that Leilani had had in the house of mirrors, Leilani had to go see Lexi. But Maddy convinced her that it was definitely not a good idea while she was completely out of her mind.

Leilani reluctantly agreed, deciding that Lexi would surely be beyond pissed if she saw her in that state. She never liked when Leilani got high.

Leilani promised herself she would go see her the next day. She didn't account for everything going to shit in under twenty-four hours.

The police had launched a full on investigation. Against Nate fucking Jacobs. The moment Leilani saw the marks around Maddy's neck, she felt the overwhelming urge to kill Nate herself. To show no mercy whatsoever.

Leilani was questioned in the investigation, to a slightly higher degree than anyone else. She knew that Maddy would have her head if she ever found out that Leilani had told the police what she knew.

Maddy was adamant that it wasn't Nate's fault. Leilani's heart broke when Maddy sobbed, clutching Leilani's body close to her. As if she were afraid that Leilani would vanish or leave if she lessened her grip any.

Part of Leilani regretted telling the police anything. After all, she did promise Maddy she wouldn't, but she refused to stand by and watch her best friend be torn down by some.. boy who didn't even deserve her time in the first place.

Leilani leaned over, placing her hands on her knees and inhaling deeply. "Shit."

She straightened her back, stretching her arms out as she started on her run again. "Can't wait to get my fuckin' license again."

Leilani turned the corner, her heart skipping a beat when the familiar house appeared in her vision. Her mouth felt dry, and Leilani momentarily considered turning back to go home. But she didn't.

She pressed on. Her feet carried her until she came to a stop in the center of Lexi's yard. Her heart hammered against her ribcage as she looked around the yard for pebbles. Leilani focused entirely on finding that small pebble, she didn't even hear the sound of a window opening.

"Lani? What the hell are you doing here?" The sound of Lexi's voice brought her out of her focus.

Leilani jumped, turning around slowly. "H-Hey.."

Lexi crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow as she waited for a response. Leilani swallowed thickly as she scratched the back of her head. "C-Can.. Can I talk to you? Please?"

"Are you serious?" Lexi scoffed when, Leilani nodded her head sheepishly. "Fine. Stay there."

Leilani swallowed thickly, smiling to herself as she looked around the houses while waiting for Lexi. Her head ran wild with thoughts. She had absolutely no idea what she would even say to Lexi when she came face to face with her.

That moment came all too soon for Leilani's liking, and Lexi was standing in front of her. She stood with her arms cross, clearly annoyed as she waited for Leilani to say something.

"You look really pretty right now." Leilani blurted, cringing at herself when Lexi's expression changed. Her arms fell to her side and her lips curved into a barely noticeable smile, but her eyes still held the same fire as before.

"Is that all you came here to say?" Lexi rose her eyebrow, putting her arms on her hips.

Leilani's face fell as she stumbled over her words. Lexi huffed, her eyes trailing over Leilani's face. "Look, I don't have time for this-"

"Wait! I know I don't deserve any of your attention. I don't deserve anything from you at all after what I did. I hurt you, and I'm so fucking sorry for that.. I could make excuses all day long for why I did what I did.. but you don't deserve excuses. You deserve an apology.. A real apology." Leilani spoke slowly, avoiding Lexi's eyes as she spoke. "And that's what I'm here to give you. I'm a shitty person and you deserve so much better than me, so I won't be mad if you tell me to leave right now and tell me you never wanna see me again and that's okay. But I just wanted you to know how fucking sorry I am, and I'm so fucking sorry."

Lexi remained silent, her face showing an unreadable emotion. Leilani swallowed thickly, "Um do.. do you want more? Because I didn't come with more. I thought that would work or you would send me away, so-"

"Stop talking." Lexi interrupted, stepping forward so that she was inches away from Leilani's face. Leilani's heart skipped a beat as her face reddened.

"Ye-Yeah, okay." Leilani stammered as Lexi slowly raised her hand to cup Leilani's cheek. "What are you-"

"Sh.. Sh, what did I say?" Lexi whispered, leaning in and connecting her lips with Leilani's. Leilani's eyes widened as she slowly and carefully raised her hands to the taller girl's waist.

Leilani's eyes fluttered shut as she pulled Lexi closer, smiling into the kiss. All thoughts of her once being wrong went out the window. In this moment, standing here with Lexi right now, everything felt right.

As Lexi pulled away, she pressed her forehead against Leilani's. Leilani grinned, her eyes shut as she relished in the moment. Her heart raced as she clutched the fabric of Lexi's shirt in her hands. Leilani's voice was quiet as she spoke. "So.. does that mean?"

Lexi laughed, shaking her head as she rubbed her thumb on Leilani's face.

"I forgive you."
