After spending the entire day around his classmates and then his teammates, Tsukishima desperately needed a break from people. Being an introvert was difficult when you had to spend all day and every day inside surrounded by others. Often, Tsukishima found refuge in his music but there was a certain kind of peace and joy to be found in silence.

Tsukishima gathered his things after practice and headed for the door. For once, his best friend had plans and would not be walking home with him. This meant he could be alone with you, which was always nice. Tsukishima strangely found your company refreshing. You seemed to be less draining than most of the other people he spent his time with.

You caught up to Tsukishima when you noticed him starting the journey to your respective homes. You lived close to each other, so it was very convenient to walk home together most evenings. Now moving at the same pace and beside each other, you noticed that Tsukishima kept his signature headphones hanging around his neck.

"Hey," You greeted calmly, letting him know you were there, even though he probably already did.

"Hey," He said back, sparing you a glance. That was where the "conversation" between you ended. You opted to enjoy the pleasant sounds of the atmosphere around you: the crickets, the cicadas, and the distant traffic. It was truly nice. A chilly breeze blew through the air, signifying the upcoming change in season. As the sun slowly disappeared behind the horizon, coating the surrounding area in shades of golden hues. You felt content in the universe walking beside Tsukishima.

You did not feel the need to fill the silence with meaningless small talk. This was something that was unique to your and Tsukishima's relationship; you knew how to maintain a comfortable silence. Neither of you felt obligated to fill what some people would consider "dead" air, and to Tsukishima that was invaluable. Tsukishima loved his best friend like a brother, but sometimes he didn't understand the need, or the desire, for silence like you did.

The warm golden rays danced across your skin, making the chilly evening feel less cold. Tsukishima glanced in your direction. He witnessed the colors of the setting sun douse you in brilliant warm hues. You looked like an angel.

It felt like mere moments, but your house was now only steps away. You looked to Tsukishima and smiled.

"Goodnight," You said. You spoke just as you normally did.

"Goodnight," Tsukishima said. He did not speak just as he normally did. His words had more sentiment and intention behind them. Usually, he only said goodnight to be polite or as a formality. This time he truly meant it, he wished for you to have a good night. With the smile he had grown to love, you walked into your home, closing the door behind you.

Tsukishima waited for a moment, staring at the door that shut him out. The way his heart seemed to flicker upset him. Regardless, he took his leave to return to the place he called home. He didn't have much on his mind that night, everything felt calm. The faint remnants of your smile and the aura that seemed to always surround you made sure to remind him why he spent the time with you that he did. Maybe it was true, sometimes silence speaks louder than words.
