It was in preschool when you realized you were not the biggest fan of loud noises. Of course, in a small room filled with little children is going to be very loud and chaotic, which is why you hated it. Loud noises were the very bane of your existence from a young age. You avoided anything and everything that was loud damn near without exception. That was just the way you lived, and you liked the quiet.

Enter the Fukurodani boy's volleyball team. You volunteered to help your friend, Yukie Shirofuku after she mentioned needing so assistance with the team that day. However, the moment you entered the gym and the sound of shoes squeaking and balls being tossed about echoed throughout the large room. You flinched, physically recoiling at the thundering sound. You approached Yukie, very tense and uncomfortable by the noises around you.

"(Y/n), are you okay?" Yuki asked, clearly concerned for you.

"I-I didn't think it would be so loud in here," You admitted, slightly embarrassed.

"It's okay, you can go I think we've got it all handled actually," She told you assuringly. "Practice is almost over anyway." You nodded your head, choosing to leave the gym given the circumstances. You headed for the doors but glanced back at your friend to make sure it was okay. When you looked at your friend, you saw she was talking with a tall boy you knew was from your class. They both looked at you and you panicked.

"Hey!" The boy shouted, extremely loudly so everyone could have heard. You flinched and fled, escaping into the quieter outside area. You folded your arms over your chest and huffed. You got upset when you thought about how much control your sensitive ears had over you. You shook your head, understanding there was nothing wrong with preferring silence over sound. You thought it would be best to get a head start on your work, so you would go home, but the yell from moments ago echoed again,

"Hey!" This time the call was accompanied with quick footsteps, so you turned around. The sight of an enthusiastic looking boy approaching you met your eyes. You knew he was talking to you, needing something you assumed.

"You're friends with Yukie, right?" He asked, his voice booming and curious. His eyes sparkled and you took a step back.

"Yeah, we're good friends," You stated, hoping that was all he wished to speak to you about.

"I'm friends with her too!" He exclaimed with a big grin. "I'm Kotaro Bokuto, she's probably mentioned me before! I'm the captain of the team!" You nodded your head, your eyes drifting to the side. You resisted the urge to cover your ears with your hands, you knew that would be rude, but he was so loud.

"Are you okay?" Bokuto asked, tilting to his head to the side cutely.

"O-Oh, I just, um... " You hesitated to explain yourself, afraid of being impolite or mean. "I'm just a bit sensitive to loud noises, sorry."

"Oh!" Bokuto cried, clearly apologetic, but clearer his throat. He stepped closer, his smile returning effortlessly.

"Sorry, I get excited sometimes," Bokuto spoke much quieter this time, trying his best to make a good first impression. Your smile was fragile as you thanked him for lowering his volume. He said it was no trouble at all, and you took a mental note of how considerate he was behaving.

"Yukippe has talked about you a lot before, so I wanted to meet you for myself," Bokuto explained, remaining gentle with his tone. "You're (Y//n) (L/n), aren't you?"

"I am," You said nicely. "It's nice to meet you." Bokuto was a simple boy, he liked to show what he was feeling with everything possible expression, as exasperating that might be to deal with regularly. His personality was rather bombastic, over the top, childish, and a bit moody. Regardless of those facts (that he knew himself to be true), Bokuto toned it back for your sake. Yukie spoke fondly of you, and any friend of hers was a friend of his. You seemed like such a sweet and lovely little flower, he would hate to be the reason you withered up.

"It was nice to talk to you, Bokuto," You told the boy after you had talked for a handful of minutes about this or that. "I have to get going, though."

"Then I'll see you tomorrow," Bokuto responded, managing to retain a soft-spoken demeanor for the entire duration of your conversation.

"Yeah, I'll be looking forward to it," You admitted with a shy smile. The Bokuto Yukie seemed to know was not the one you had been enjoying such a lovely conversation with.

"Me too," Bokuto waved to you as you turned to start walking home. The sidewalk you tread felt softer than it had when you walked on it that morning, or perhaps you just felt lighter. You hugged your sides, the wind picking up as the sun disappeared behind the city. Normally, you would be uncomfortable with the prospect of your face getting cold thanks to the chilly weather. You wished you had thought ahead enough to bring a scarf, but the pink hue that plastered your cheeks would surely keep you warm enough.
