To say the members of the Nekoma boy's volleyball were friends was an understatement. Through the losses and the wins, they cultivated a bond that runs beyond mere classmates or friends. They were like family; brothers in arms... well, volleyballs, but the metaphor remains the same. So when the cold wind of mid-November blew, Kenma was blessed with a brilliant idea.

The captain wiped the sweat from his forehead with a clean towel. He finally regained his breath after yet another intense match. It was a close game. It came down to the wire, but Kuroo managed to lead his team to a victory. He downed whatever was left of the water bottle in his hand.

"Kuroo," A meek voice grabbed his attention. "Let's go." Kuroo only just realized that everyone was leaving the gym. He followed Kenma into the hall quietly. He looked down at the setter next to him and he instantly became suspicious. Kenma kept looking across the slightly crowded hall as if he was looking for something.

The doors to the gym were opened and Kuroo took a deep breath. The air was crisp, a refreshing contrast to the air that felt heavy on the court. Kuroo tucked his hands into his pockets, an unbothered and indifferent expression on his face. He looked down again, seeing a smug smile on Kenma's face.

"Alright, what the hell are you up to?" Kuroo finally asked, willing to play along.

"Nothing," Kenma responded, shaking his head. "The team's waiting for us in parking lot B." Kuroo watched as Kenma scampered over to their bus, and he followed casually. Not much could rattle the scheming captain, but upon seeing someone who was not present when the team arrived, he felt his heart skip a beat. He recognized the head of (h/c) hair that stood near the bus with his teammates immediately.

"(Y/n)?" Kuroo asked, beveling his eyes were playing tricks on him. He saw you turn around, beautiful (e/c) eyes meeting his. He watched as an elated grin broke out across your face.

"(Y/n)!" Kuroo exclaimed, unable to deny what was in front of him.

"Kuroo!" You called out to the captain. In a heartbeat, Kuroo was holding you with his strong arms in a tight embrace. You held him close. How you had dreamt of this moment, being with Kuroo at last. You wanted to cry tears of joy. You swallowed them in an attempt to not embarrass your boyfriend in front of his teammates.

"You have no idea how happy I am to see you," Kuroo muttered lovingly into your skin.

"You smell like shit," You remarked while laughing. For the past year, you and Kuroo had been dating online. He told his friends about you. He told his family about you. He knew he was in love, but you lived so far away from him.Β

Miles and time zones kept you apart, but not in that moment. In that moment, nothing kept you apart. So, Kuroo stood there hugging you snugly. He only pulled away so he could kiss you, just like he had wished to do for months.

Kenma smiled at the pair in front of him. To surprised their captain with a gift, the boys all chipped in to buy you a flight to Tokyo. Though the two-way ticket was costly, seeing the overjoyed look on Kuroo's face was more than worth it.

"Happy birthday, Kuroo."
