It had been an accident; an honest mistake. Kuroo had never meant to read your, for lack of a better descriptor, diary. You had been in the bathroom when he had reached for a different textbook on your cluttered desk. Perhaps by the hand of destiny, his actions had caused another book to tumble to the floor face-down.ย

Thin, spiral-bound, and your favorite color it had caught Kuroo's attention. Out of instinct, Kuroo had tried to return it to its home. However, his observant eyes had managed to make out a series of words scribbled out on the page.

"No doubt I've got feelings for him, but how am I supposed to tell someone like that something like this?"

Instantly, Kuroo's attention had been entirely encapsulated. He had felt guilty for invading your privacy. It had been obvious the notebook belonged to you and contained your innermost internal dialogue. Yet, the overwhelming need to know more had consumed him. So, he had read on. His eyes, narrow but warm like marmalade, had grown in shock. It was then that you returned.

"Okay, so, where were we?" You asked. As you looked at the captain standing in your bedroom, you saw the notebook he held and the stunned expression on his face. As quick as a hummingbird's wings, panic shot through your veins, echoing across your body. You leaped forward, attempting to rip the book from his hands before he could discover any more of your secrets.

Kuroo reached his hands above his head, preventing you from getting to the book. Then, Kuroo began to laugh. The same laugh you had always found such joy in now brought you a sick feeling in your stomach. Blood rushed to your face. Kuroo would push your buttons, he would purposely annoy you, and he would even make fun of you. But to laugh at you after finding out you had feelings for him was not something you ever expected from him.

You felt like you were about to cry as Kuroo held the journal out of your reach, chuckling as you struggled to take it from him. He watched as you gave up suddenly, turning away. You crossed your arms over your chest, managing to swallow your tears.

"So... " Kuroo had broken the silence, a smirk on his face you couldn't see. "You like me?" You didn't respond, not trusting your voice to remain unbreaking. You felt him behind you, leaning in.

"I like you too." His words struck a foreign chord within you. Was he joking? You had always thought it was impossible for him to reciprocate your feelings. You slowly turned around, now coming face-to-face with him. His face was so close, closer than a friend's ever ought to be.

"You," You paused, struggling to process what he told you, "do?" You watched as Kuroo nodded his head, his signature smirk still ever-present. When the waves of realization finally hit, an uncontrollable grin broke out across your face. Kuroo leaned in closer, placing a slow and gentle kiss on your forehead.

"I'd like to be your boyfriend," Kuroo admitted playfully, "if you don't mind." Kuroo saw that blissful smile, the same one that always gave him butterflies.

"I don't mind at all."
