Perhaps you were just very competitive, or, perhaps you were arrogant. You had a great deal of faith in Nekoma's volleyball team and for good reason. You were going to be the boy's new manager once their current one graduated, so you had to be passionate about the team. Alas, you couldn't keep your overconfident mouth shut when the Nekoma boys had a practice game against Karasuno.

"There's no way you'll win," You boasted with your arms folded over your chest. "The boys have really been honing their skills since you last played each other."

"Well so have we!" Hinata claimed just as boldly as you had. "We're better than ever now, and we'll kick your butts!" you laughed at how serious Hinata seemed, but also how wrong he was.

"You might be better than you were last time, but that doesn't mean you will win," You pointed out factually. "And like I said, there's no way."

"Oh, yeah?" Hinata stepped forward, and you didn't back down. You were actually good friends, but maybe you both got into the sport a little too much.

"If Karasuno wins... " You paused for a scoff, but also for a chance to think of something that would get your point across effectively. "If Karasuno wins, I'll take you out on a date." You spoke without thinking and partially as a joke, but your words made Hinata's heart skip a beat.

The tangerine-haired boy was too much of a coward to admit it, but he had managed to develop a pretty big crush on you. In fact, he was so excited about the practice match not because of the prospect of playing against their rivals, but because he would get to see you again. You lived pretty far away, so Hinata was over the moon due to being able to see you in person.

"Deal!" Hinata stiffly shouted, his nerves forcing him to act quickly. He wasn't going to let this opportunity slip, even if you did think he was playing along with the joke.

"O-Okay," You stuttered, a bit caught off guard that he didn't out-right shoot you down. Before you could trash-talk the Karasuno team any further, it was time for the boys to warm up and start the game. You joined Nekoma's current manager on the bench. It wasn't long before the match began and Karasuno surprisingly took the early lead. Even more of a shocker, Karasuno kept that lead for the entire first set.

You were unsure of how to feel when the visiting team won the first set. You hated seeing your team lose at all, but you were a little happy they did. If Karasuno pulled through and won the second set, you and Hinata would go on a date, right? The thought made you blush and bite back a smile. Maybe you had a tiny, little, itty bitty crush on the energetic carrot-top. Maybe.

"C'mon, we have to win!" Hinata told his teammates. "We can't lose this game!"

"It's just a practice match, Hinata," Daichi reminded him. "It's not the end of the world if we don't win this time." The young boy huffed; to him, it was the end of the world if they lost. He was too embarrassed to tell his friends about your little bet, so he only hoped they were taking it as seriously as he was.

Alas, the second set went to Nekoma. The tie-breaker had you on the edge of your seat, needless to say. The fact that you cared so much about the outcome of this match apart from your pride in your team made you realize just how much you had grown to like Hinata.

You were disappointed when Nekoma won the final set. All those who played were exhausted and your team was pretty happy about the win. All the boys on Karasuno's team seemed indifferent about the loss; learning was what practice was for, not winning. Except one. Hinata sat against the wall of the gym utterly defeated.

Hinata disliked losing, as every human being tends to, but this was different. If he played just a little bit better, he would get to go on a date with the girl he was totally head over heels for. You saw the near hopeless expression on the boy's face. You were feeling the same way, but what were you supposed to do now? That's when you had an idea that would fix all your problems.

You approached Hinata and waited for him to notice your presence. He seemed to be off in his own little world sitting on the floor. There was silence until you spoke up,

"I didn't tell you what happens if you lose."

"What?" Hinata asked, now looking up at you.

"Bets go both ways," You explained. "And I never told you what you have to do if you lost." Hinata tilted his head, very confused. He didn't know what you were talking about, but you had this look in your eyes; one that told him there was nothing to worry about.

"You have to go on a date with me."

"Wait, really?" Hinata bolted to his feet as his caramel eyes sparkled. With a smug grin, you nodded your head. Hinata's smile made you giggle because he looked so happy. You wanted to make him happy like that forever.
