Spencer was definitely one to never allow himself to hope for something too much, but he really had hopes that you liked him back. He was pretty obvious in his admiration for you, but it was easily misinterpreted as a idolization-thing rather than a crush. So it was easy to see why you never thought too much of it. Spencer fought and lost a long battle to get rid of his 'silly feelings'. He just couldn't seem to shake them. After a particularly rough case where an Unsub had taken you momentarily hostage (a cheap way to try and get away from custody) it seemed the person you wanted most to help you was Spencer himself. Boy had he ever felt more appreciated in that moment. Of course, thanks to Derek's stealth and Garcia's information, they were able to quickly apprehend the criminal and you were left untouched (other than scared). Spencer got to you first and he would never forget it because you gave him the biggest hug known to man. Since then his feelings doubled, and he was left acting like a giddy puppy around you. Emily was the first to notice and so she brought it up. Spencer trusted her enough to talk about it, and Emily knew then that he was head over heels in love.
